QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Apr 21, 2012 -> 02:55 PM) You're down 3, not 8. Bunting's part of the game at this point. Drilling someone for that is bulls***. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 21, 2012 -> 02:54 PM) (I kept saying tomorrow, dude). I know you mean tomorrow. I don' think he's done anything wrong though and he shouldn't be hit. I'd want a White Sox hitter to do that if they were in this situation. If it was a 10-0 game that might be another story, but we are talking about a 3 run game here. -

In terms of hitting him, I completely disagree. Baseball is about getting hits and the Mariners should be doing anything they can to get Humber out of rhythm. -
QUOTE (SI1020 @ Apr 21, 2012 -> 05:46 AM) I've been one of his biggest critics but he does look totally different at the plate this year. Even in the games he struggled he looked different. working the count and not looking overmatched. IIRC Beckham, Morel and Dunn all got hits in the same inning. Keep that up and it could be an interesting year. He's also in shape. Night and day difference in his physical appearance from a year ago.

This is a dumb thread. I'm closing it.

Amex is amazing at it. I've had to do it a few times and have always won. I had legit reasons. I've heard other CC companies aren't as good as AMEX at taking the customers side (vs. the merchants side).

QUOTE (iamshack @ Apr 16, 2012 -> 09:07 AM) I recognize that RIGHT NOW, for instance, in the next 5-20 games, Escobar may produce better results offensively than Beckham, but considering the delta between the two, even when Gordon plays at his absolute worst and Escobar at his best, I'd much rather eat that shortfall and give Gordon a chance to resurrect is career. However, I think it may be time for Gordon to go back to Charlotte...and if that is what the organization determines, then yes, let OC (I mean Escobar) play in the interim (and Lilli). But that would be doing so for different reasons. It is sad I'm talking about either of these guys as starters at this point. Beckham needs some serious work and I agree with you that AAA would be the best place to do it. I am hoping that a new hitting coach could be just what the doctor ordered.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 16, 2012 -> 09:02 AM) Escobar is a guy who had a .666 career minor league OPS. Even with the horribleness that has been he recent career, Gordo is at .700 at the major league level. Not to mention Gordo is a borderline gold glover. For me, Beckham would have to really show no signs of progress over the first month or two before I'd consider a switch. Even then, I would be looking at Lilli before Escobar. Unless something big changed in Escobar, we are talking about a defensive replacement type utility man for a ceiling. There is something about him that tells me he's going to hit for a decent average. Little pop which is why he will have a lowerish OPS. But, I'm okay with that, assuming he can project into the 2 spot. And again, I'm not saying Escobar is some kind of like, more just the fact that I think Gordon is a complete bum.
-
QUOTE (iamshack @ Apr 16, 2012 -> 08:59 AM) I'm still not willing to concede this. Defensively both are good and Escobar has more to prove but Escobar, while he has limited pop, he certainly looks to have a better approach and a far shorter swing. I don't know what happened to Gordon but he has a god awful approach and swing. And I've been consistently saying this since last spring training.

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Apr 16, 2012 -> 05:17 AM) I just listed Escobar as a possibility , a shot in the dark so to speak. We can still develop and compete. They do not have to be mutually exclusive. He's a switch hitter , makes good contact ,can hit opposite field well and runs fairly well. I like his bat control. Most would have listed him as a long shot to even make the team based on his " track record". If Beckham and even Morel continue to struggle Escobar deserves more time. Escobar is better than Beckham.

I really love Briggs. Great football player.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Apr 9, 2012 -> 09:47 AM) He also had 2-3 lead passes that were way off. That stuff comes back though once you get acclimated to the speed of the game. I thought the first and second half were night and day in terms of his play. Not to dwell on that game Sunday, but I am a little concerned that the last week or so the Bulls have played pretty terribly on the defensive end. Hopefully it's not fatigue, because the "real" season hasn't even begun yet. They're able to mount comebacks because their 2nd unit almost always dominates the other teams' second unit, but that becomes less of an advantage in the playoffs, and specifically with the Heat since 99% of the time either Lebron or Wade are on the floor. The Bulls defense was legit last night. They held the Knicks to horrendous shooting during the 3rd and 4th quarters and even the 2nd quarter fg% was low. The only reason they won that game was because of the Bulls turnovers (which is why the Knicks jumped out to that 21 point lead and why they had the fg% they did) and the fact that they couldn't make free throws.

QUOTE (SleepyWhiteSox @ Apr 8, 2012 -> 03:04 PM) Hence his absolute worthlessness. Isn't that cause they are still limiting his minutes. He made some really nice passes last night and when I've watched him has played pretty good. The problem is he's just been hurt.

QUOTE (Cali @ Apr 7, 2012 -> 07:51 PM) 2 games into the season, the theme seems like it's gonna be good starting, great bullpen, great defense (sans Morel yesterday), struggling to score runs at times/possibly all the time haha Offenses tend to struggle a bit in April so that might be premature. That said, I don't expect the White Sox to have a great offense. But if they have good pitching and a strong bullpen, they could just make the playoffs. I'm just going to sit back and enjoy the ride. Really think I'm going to like Ventura.

White Sox @ Texas Rangers April 6 OPENING DAY GAME THREAD
Chisoxfn replied to southsider2k5's topic in 2012 Season in Review
Why oh why. Got home from work at midnight....will be working late tonight. Normally this is the best day of the year and I won't be able to enjoy it. Hopefully Soxtalk Nation does and the White Sox pull the first win in what will be a surprisingly enjoying season!!!! -
I always liked the Kipster.

QUOTE (BurlyMan56 @ Apr 4, 2012 -> 06:13 PM) just moved down here from Chicago two weeks ago. Going to the saturday/sunday games...Hope Peavy and his teammates play like a bunch of dirt bags! I assume someone is a Long Beach State fan. Dirt Bag is a compliment in relation to a baseball team.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Apr 3, 2012 -> 07:29 PM) Man, I think you guys are selling him short...kid has good hands, can shoot it waaaaayyyy better than Okafor did in college...I really do think of him as a Marcus Camby that can shoot... I agree with you Shack. I think some of you guys are severely underrating this kid.

QUOTE (knightni @ Apr 3, 2012 -> 02:29 PM) I think Halas was a great innovator and early NFL pioneer, but "GSH" should have been removed from the jerseys 20 years ago. That is ridiculous.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 3, 2012 -> 12:03 PM) Depends on how much they paid for the rights here. The teams have the final say. They own there logo and the rights to it, etc.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Apr 3, 2012 -> 08:10 AM) The media should stop telling us that CJ is a starter on many other teams He does start on some teams. It would just happen to be on some pretty bad teams. He's a good bench player and a lousy to mediocre starter.
-
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Apr 3, 2012 -> 07:13 AM) Can anyone explain to me why CJ Watsons head has been squarely up his ass for the better part of the past month? His disappearing act has forced Lucasanity upon us, and opposing teams love it when Lucas is in the game, jacking ill advised shots and being unable to play competent defense because of his size. Last night you could tell Thibs had enough of Boozer. Because when he starts for an extended time he just isn't good. He turns into an incredibly inefficient player. That is why he is a bench guy.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 2, 2012 -> 06:14 AM) Actually, I'm not a huge fan of his 2-seamer right now, I think that's his biggest weakness and why he got hit hard yesterday...he doesn't get the kind of sink on that pitch he needs to. I don't think he's getting "On top of it" enough. You realize that is his best pitch right? His best pitch isn't even very good. Unless this guy makes some huge strides, he is nothing to get excited about. At least not as a starter. I don't even think he's a sure fire reliever. Given that the Sox gave up a pretty valuable chip in Edwin Jackson to get him (who would have got you draft picks), its pretty disappointing (I do realize we also gave up Teahen so that negated Jackson's value a bit).
