QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 5, 2010 -> 12:36 PM) Please correct me if I'm wrong, but 2010-2011 is going to be an uncapped NFL season. Thus, if we had to pay 20 million to fire Lovie/hire Cowher, then how in the world were we going to expect the Bears to sign any free agents this offseason? I'm content with today's decisions....I'm happy Luke Butkus got fired, cause he's a real prick. It is uncapped, but people are actually expecting teams to spend less and not more because there is no floor.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Jan 5, 2010 -> 12:28 PM) Of course, the Bears use the last two games as an excuse for not firing everybody. Good thing Marinelli won't be the coordinator. We've already seen what he does when he's in charge and it ain't pretty. He's a better hands-on coach, I think. Marinelli got the most out of his guys in Detroit. They played hard every game and that is almost impossible to do when your team was as bad as they were. He didn't get a fair shake and could very well have been an exceptional coach in the right circumstances.

Haugh is reporting that the Bears talked about promoting Marinelli to DC, but have decided not to and will be hiring outside of the organization for the DC. Perry come on down!!!

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 5, 2010 -> 10:32 AM) Per other reports, the Bears will be keeping their RB and WR coaches and scrapping their O-Line, TE, and QB coach. Which makes sense. TE coach failed to develop Davis/Olsen. WR coach did his job. Oline coach, uggh. And Pep didn't fit well with Jay Bears need to bring in a high profile QB coach and a high profile OC. My first choice would be Weiss. Yes, I would take Weiss over Martz.

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jan 5, 2010 -> 09:06 AM) I was really hopping that with a new D-Coordinator moving in that management would force Lovie to get out of his comfort zone and bring in someone who wasnt a "Yes man". And what did they do? Promote a Lovie "Yes man" friend. But unlike Babich, Marinelli is also one of Angelo's boys. That is what people forget.

QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Jan 5, 2010 -> 06:55 AM) This was exactly what I was going to post and I would be content with this. It also makes the most sense fiscally and with the fact that there may not be football in 2011 teams are heding their moves. It won't happen and here is why. Lovie is very smug and knows everything. Martz can take his job if the O excels and the D fails. If there is no football in 2011, Martz will be paid anyway so you fire Lovie and install Martz. The new D coordinator must keep the cover 2. The fact that this failed so badly under Lovie and he was unable to do both jobs speaks volumes about his ability to be a head coach. There are plenty of guys that can do it but thay all have the oversized cards to read (I know these are the offensive guys) and Lovie looks at the scoreboard. If Bill Cowher does not have a job, I think he gets the call after Lovie fails next year. Chicago is the only other job, non southeast that Cowher will take. I think you might see the Bears go hard for him if all goes wrong next year. Since the Bears aren't spending money on coaching I hope the organization plans to spend on an olineman, a back-up RB, a safety, and potentially a dtackle.

QUOTE (DBAHO @ Jan 4, 2010 -> 09:03 PM) Perry Fewell (Buffalo's interim coach who just got canned) would be a good target if the Bears went after a new D-Co. And they should target Jeremy Bates as an O-Co, or at least that's who Jay Cutler wants. Fewell is a good candidate, but it sounds like they are thinking about promoting Marinelli. While many will complain, Marinelli is a very very good coach.

QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Jan 4, 2010 -> 07:50 PM) If they're stating their announcing their changes tomorrow, that means Lovie is back, else it would've been leaked already. Turner is going to be the fall guy as well as Pep Hamilton. Wouldn't surprise me if they bring in Zorn as a QB coach, and Martz, not because he's Lovie's friend, but he would be able to fully utilize the Bears' offense strengths which is speed. Also, I could see Rod Marinelli becoming the new defensive coordinator tomorrow or someone other than Lovie, but who still runs the cover 2. Well done. I think they will try to go high profile and hire Jeremy Bates as the QB coach. Bates is an up and coming young mind and would be a tremendous hire and could be a long-term target as a future head coach.

QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Dec 31, 2009 -> 07:53 AM) Without doing any research the Cardinals wanted and could not get a number 2 for Bouldin. I think the Bears could get a 3 but it would not be that easy. Boldin was different becuase of all of the money you'd have to dole out as well. Look at what the Lions got for Roy Williams.

I also have two cousins, one which went to Depaul, that I can put you in contact with. He's at Deloitte right now in Chicago.

Steve if you want to chat more thoroughly about accounting let me know. I'd assume I'm one of the experts on the board in the field and I'm still pretty fresh blood so I've been through it all and honestly it depends on what you want to pursue as to whether accounting would be the right choice. Tons of potential if you go that route, but it depends on what you want to do with your career. Ie, if you are willing to put yourself through some hell for a few years.

So I have internet access at my new place finally. I was a total cheapass and got the slow version of internet which is only like 18 bucks a month as opposed to the super fast cable. I personally can't tell the difference, although I don't do a whole lot of streaming stuff. It is still faster than DSL though.

I think Texas Tech was cheap. Leach is a good head coach and shouldn't have been fired. -

QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Dec 30, 2009 -> 07:29 AM) A team is not going to give up a 3rd round pick for a kick returner who is no longer returning kicks. Hester has not learned the Bears offense enough to be considered anything more than a bad number 2 or decent number 3. What is his value when placed in a new system that he has to learn? Hester is also making a decent sum of money although the reciever incentives will never be met. If Manning is on this team he will be returning kicks with Knox next year and Bennett will return punts...they did as well as Hester this year. I think they could possibly get a third but I do not think they could get a third easily. At this point in his career for the money he is making there are more questions about Hester than guarantees and the fact that the Bears did not miss him in the return game is interesting to me and I assume GM's would think so as well. 2006 Hester is worth a number 2 or 3....current Hester....not so sure. 2006 Hester would have gotten a 1st rounder and more. Your severely under-valuing this guys trade value. The guy was taken in the 2nd round, has produced in the NFL, and has talent and many teams would love to have there hands on an athlete like him. He is at least worth a 3rd round pick and It wouldn't shock me if you could get a 2nd round for him. His contract is very cap friendly.

f*** yes big 10 and wow, I'm siding with Leach on this one. -
It was a smaller than usual christmas this year. Moved into a new place about a week before Xmas, got engaged in September so between the moving expenses and wedding expenses we went pretty light: - Bears hat (the Cursive B one that Lovie wears) - Matix Sweater (Badass) - 50 Costco Cash Card - Pair of work shoes - Cash (from soon to be in law's)

QUOTE (lostfan @ Dec 29, 2009 -> 03:48 PM) I would say that Hester in 2006-2007 (more 2007 since he did a lot of dumb rookie s*** in 2006) is far better than Bennett, Knox, or Manning, but Toub has a really great system going where basically any fast guy is explosive. Not to where opposing special teams coaches s*** themselves before games or anything and have to puss out by kicking the ball away from the return guy, but enough to break off the occasional TD, and a couple of long returns a game. Remember that before Hester we also had some pretty explosive return-men. Azumah was lethal, Vasher was above average. Hester was the best, but these other guys were amongst the best in the league as well. Devin isn't the only probowl return man Toub has had.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Dec 29, 2009 -> 05:15 AM) I think the king of all of those types of movies is The Running Man. I couldn't put that book down. There has never been another book that I was so into reading, but the movie was nothing like the book. I can't even emphasize enough how different they are to anyone who has seen the movie but not read the book. I thought the movie the Kite Runner was pretty damn good. Didn't read the book, but it got me to tear up and I almost never cry.

QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Dec 29, 2009 -> 10:18 AM) My DirectTV has a 30 sec jump ahead and 7 second jump back. The channel ordering in DirectTv actaully makes sense and it is rather easy to find something. I love the fact that if it is HD you get the channel in HD without having the non-HD option thus the channels are all the same on every box. The Dish DVR is better but he on-line setting of the DVR is a cool feature. I like the four tv's on one DVR option with Dish. The equipment for DirectTv is also much cheaper than cable not sure about Dish. I am hoping to get into the on-line On Demand feature one of these days. If this works there will be no comparison. The Customer Service with DirectTv has been much better than cable. Overall though, go with whichever vendor gives you the best package price. Equipment is much more expensive than cable. Cable you get everything free, just pay the monthly box fee. DirectTV you pay the monthly box fee plus a price just to lease the equipment (if you have HD, HD DVR, etc).

QUOTE (JPN366 @ Dec 28, 2009 -> 02:16 PM) I'll echo everything everyone has said. My single solitary beef is that they want an extra $100 on top of the $250 they charge for Sunday Ticket if you want all the games in HD, Red Zone channel and game mix channel. Other than that, I love it. Great picture quality, great HD options, great for sports. Downside is the up-front costs for equipment (if you have multiple HD TV's, etc). And the fact that you have a contract is pretty ridiculous. I've had cable and directtv. I just moved and my new place DirectTV didn't work so I was allowed to leave my contract with no fees, but there are a lot of really good things about cable. The on-demand is great and the guide works much much faster than the HD Direct TV guides. The only real loss for me is the fact that MLB Xtra Innings isn't in high-def on cable but it is on Direct TV. I'll f***ing miss getting every White Sox game in HD (as an out of market fan), but cable is real nice and it is even better knowing I'm not stuck to a contract.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Dec 29, 2009 -> 09:40 AM) I'd have to debate acquiring McGrady. You get huge cap space next year, but I want to look as good as possible this year for FA's. Could the Bulls deal Deng for McGrady? If so, I'd do it. -
QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Dec 29, 2009 -> 09:43 AM) Manning will never be anything more than a nickel back and therefore is perfect to replace Hester who seems to have lost the desire to return kicks. I think Hester has zero trade value as he will never be a reciever and Toub can be credtied with making him a returner. Bennett, Manning and Knox have looked good and we may never see the 2006 Hester again. You could get a 3rd for Hester no problem.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Dec 29, 2009 -> 08:10 AM) It's a testament as to how good of a running back he is that he can fumble so much, yet still get the ball 20+times a game, no questions asked. 95% of the RBs in the league would be out a job if they fumbled as much as him. Chester Taylor is pretty freaking good too.
