  1. Wow, I'm not a fan. Getz and Fields for a guy that will make 4M in salary. Makes very little sense to me. However, I will say that I like Teahan, but wow, opened up a major hole at 2B. There are guys out there who could fill that hole and none of them with the possible exception of Beckham (if a 3B is brought in) or Retherford (who has raked at every level, although that is no guarantee that he'll do the same at the big league level) are on the Sox. Sox have to be getting cash back or something. I really think Mark is a solid player and a very versatile pick-up, but at the same time the finances of this deal don't make sense. I think we'll find out its Fields for Teahan.
  2. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Nov 5, 2009 -> 08:26 AM) Pff, Retherford has Danny Richar written all over him. You can all slob him and say he's the next great thing, and I'll sit here and tell you that just breaking out at 24 in a fall league is a sign that he's getting lucky and he will suck. Then he'll hit .200 or so and look like crap but people will still refuse to believe. Then he will finally, a year later, be given away and fade to no man's land. He didn't just emerge. Retherford might not be a top 30 prospect, but he's raked at every level.
  3. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 2, 2009 -> 02:39 PM) +1 over here. Those guys werent even on a real work or road rules show, they are huge douches. Johnny was on a show, don't remember what year but he was on one.
  4. Tell them you've interviewed with another company and are expecting to here back from them soon, but also be honest about your preference of GE. No harm with that, especially during internship recruiting. They want the people they hire to really like the company and in this instance you are saying hey, I like you guys a lot.

    The Droid

It looks really really nice, but I'm sure it will have some first generation bugs. Unfortunately I don't have Verizon so it doesn't matter anyway. Having a keyboard (a real one) is priceless. THat touch stuff doesn't work for me...
  6. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Nov 4, 2009 -> 03:52 PM) OK, my younger brother still lives at home with our parents. My parents have no use for computers and no knowledge of them, but my brother wants to get the internet on our computer. Since my parents don't care about the internet, they have no desire to buy it, and my brother doesn't have money. My aunt lives directly next door to them and has wireless internet. So, here's my question. How do you get a regular desktop computer to pick up a wireless signal? Can you even do it? There is definitely connectivity in my parents' house from my aunt's house, and she doesn't care. He just needs to be a wireless adapter which will pick up the signal. Get a USB one for 20 or 30 bucks, plug it in, follow the instructions, access the WIFI and your golden.
  7. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 2, 2009 -> 03:35 PM) Yes, there is demand, but not as much as there is for a masters in Finance (at least, from what I see, being in the sector). Economics has a lower % in private work, higher in public work, relatively. Other way around for Finance. Pluses and minuses to each of those. Of course, right now, neither one is in extremely HIGH demand. But finance and accounting are still pretty strong, because even with the financial industry reeling, companies still need more and more of those folks to keep up with all the new rules and risks. Don't ever get a masters in accounting, unless you are a tax professional and in which case a masters in tax can be very valuable. For all other purposes, most worthless masters you could possibly get.
  8. QUOTE (SnB @ Nov 2, 2009 -> 02:48 PM) Finance People: Is there any demand for masters degrees in economics? (Would it be worth pursuing?) Get an MBA before you do a Masters in Econ. Well unless you plan on pursuing teaching or something along those lines. But if you are looking for value added in the private sector and your going to get a major, get the MBA, by far the most broad and most beneficial compared to the others.
  9. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Nov 4, 2009 -> 11:27 AM) And because Zobrist is just fine at 2B. Yep, Rays had no use for Iwamura. Financially they save money and we'll see what the Rays do with it. they also saved a ton when they moved Kazmir and if there pitching recoups they should be just fine to make another run next year.
  10. Interesting. Good move by the Pirates. Rays made the deal for financial purposes I assume.
  11. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 3, 2009 -> 12:43 PM) Danks has about a zero chance of making the team this spring. That being said, if he has a good summer next year, I could see him getting a cup of coffee in September. That is the soonest I see him having a chance at making it. Buddy Bell has said that he's ready defensively and very close to ready offensively. Now I'm not saying the Sox will go with him, but from what has been quoted, the brass believes he's knocking on the door.
  12. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 1, 2009 -> 07:24 PM) They didn't even keep the talent level around him the same... I'd argue they are better than they were for a large chunk of last season. They lost Gordon, but replaced him with Salmons, Miller, a heatlhy Hinrich, and a healthy Deng.
  13. QUOTE (ChWRoCk2 @ Nov 1, 2009 -> 03:08 PM) It is terrible. Was a problem last year and they did nothing to fix it. Hopefully TT spends some money on offensive linemen in the offseason or drafts a player or two. The Vikings defensive line is still hard to stop regardless of whom you put out there. Edwards, Allen and the Williams wall is tough to stop. Pack are looking to break the sacks against record. I was actually talking about the Bears oline, but the Packers oline sucks too. Ain't as bad as the Bears though. Rodgers holds onto the ball for extended periods of time.
  14. The oline is quite possibly the worse oline I've ever seen.
  15. QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Oct 31, 2009 -> 03:31 PM) So does Rodriguez keep his job after this season? People are definitely going to be pissed at them. And they still have games against Penn State and Ohio State right?

    Films Thread

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Oct 30, 2009 -> 05:56 PM) The Audition is a pretty f***ed up Japanese horror/torture porn film, it's a damn good watch if you're into that sort of thing. So like Hostel or different? Given that you mentioned porn, I'm really glad I ended up going with the Orphanage since I found that. Not sure if the fiance would have been too found if I showed her some torture porn, haha.
  17. QUOTE (SHIPPS @ Oct 31, 2009 -> 06:44 AM) My favorite of all time would be "It" I am going to watch Orphan and Drag me to hell with the chick tonight. I heard the Orphan was really good. I saw the Orphanage last night. Fantastic flick. It's a spanish film with subtitles, but fantastic, imo.
  18. QUOTE (Capn12 @ Oct 31, 2009 -> 02:08 PM) This putrid Georgia defense has a way of making even marginal QBs look good, it will make Tebow look like a demi-god. It is sad, cause Georgia has a lot of talent, but talent or not, they are just a really bad team. I thought they would show up today.
  19. Tebow is shutting me up, he's looking really good today. Best he's played all season, imo.
  20. QUOTE (iamshack @ Oct 31, 2009 -> 01:58 PM) Even the Iowa coach thinks the computers are crazy. To be honest, I haven't watched Iowa much this year. The Big Ten winner is usually a solid team, not prone to commit a lot of errors, runs the football well, can get big passing plays when it needs it, and plays solid defense. But time and time and time again, they get their doors blown off in big games against the SEC or the Pac 10 champions. The problem is they get behind early and just have no chance coming back trying to throw the ball against a defense that tees off on them because they know they have to throw the ball. My guess is that will happen to Iowa should they Florida or LSU, possibly even against a Boise St or TCU team as well. I do think Iowa would hang around against Alabama or Georgia, simply because they aren't explosive teams that will take Iowa out of their game plan early. Iowa has been very good in bowl-games. I wouldn't throw a ton of money down on the Hawks if they were playing Florida, USC, LSU, Alabama, etc, but I'd give them a fighting chance. They aren't as bad as some of you say. And I realiez Ferentz said that about the computer and the big reason is because the computer doesn't tell how the Hawkeyes win. At the same time, it factors in heavily the teams Iowa's played, etc, and at some point you can't argue that Iowa has beaten some pretty good teams in some pretty tough places. If Iowa goes undefeated (and I still don't necessarily believe they will), they'd have a resume which includes wins vs Arizona (top 25), @ Penn State (top 15), @ Ohio State (top 15-top 20), @ Wisconsin (Top 30), vs Michigan (Top 30-40). And right now the Iowa State win isn't looking like a bad win either (although the Clones are losing today).
  21. Alright, I'm all caught up, haha. Herbstreit was on Cowherd earlier today and was talking about Iowa. He said he talks to coaches on a daily basis for his job and mentioned that the team that the Big 10, Big 12, and Pac 10 coaches he talked to raved about was Iowa. It isn't necessarily because they've won pretty, but the way they are coached. Still, they've beaten a lot of top 35-40 teams this year, imo. And if they find a way to go undefeated (Which would include another road win @ OSU), well you got to really tip your cap to something like that.
  22. QUOTE (WilliamTell @ Oct 31, 2009 -> 12:31 PM) I'd give Iowa an outside shot to win it. They've been finding ways to win. Texas would be the team that scared me the most and thats because they have the best QB of the group and a top QB could disect our zone defense potentially (if Iowa doesn't get to the QB) and make it tough for us to score.
  23. QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Oct 31, 2009 -> 12:17 PM) Um...anyone else feel like the announcers are giving Stanzi too much credit for this 4th quarter? He made a couple of good albeit simple throws where Iowa's receivers were wide open and then the receivers ran wild. Granted I'm used to seeing Illinois QBs miss those throws but still. I think he deserves it, only because of what he had to overcome (ie, that horrendous 3rd quarter). IT ain't easy to get back on track when you have that much negative momentum.
  24. QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Oct 31, 2009 -> 12:15 PM) That call was big but the biggest play of this entire game was the Iowa interception returned for a TD where it hit like 5 people then landed right in the Iowa's players hands. Instead of possibly putting the game away Iowa gets right back in it. I was about to quit on the game and that play happened. IT was looking really bad. Especially with the 9 yard punt in the 1st half and the fumbled punt return with 26 seconds left. People forget Iowa made some uncharacterist mistakes which put Indiana in that position. IU should have won that game, just like they should have beaten Michigan and Northwestern. So Iowa benefited just like those other 3 teams did, but had IU been able to execute they'd be 7-2 and in the top 20. So lets not start calling IU some awful POS team. They aren't the Illini.
