  1. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Nov 6, 2009 -> 11:12 AM) DeJesus would be a pretty bad fit IMO since he's not really a CF. And for the thousandth time (from me) PLEASE no Quentin in RF. Rios is our CF'er.
  2. QUOTE (longshot7 @ Nov 6, 2009 -> 11:13 AM) What's his salary numbers again? ~3.5M this year...probably will get closer to 4M.
  3. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Nov 6, 2009 -> 11:07 AM) BTW Kenny's comment about the DH spot possibly going unresolved until the end of the offseason makes me worry. It tells me 1) he has very limited funds, 2) it's not important enough to address immediately, 3) he's planning on waiting around until January to pick through the scraps. Wonderful. I think he knows there will be good deals out there and DH is usually one of the easier positions to fill. Right now I think Kenny's focus will be finding that starting OF to go with Rios and Q and retooling the bullpen and giving himself some more financial flexibility so he can get Danks locked down, maybe go to Q for a deal (buying low), and of course freeing up the payroll necessary to add one more big bat. I really feel we see a few rumored Jenks/Konerko deals which give the club financial relief and some young arms that project to the pen (and maybe a young outfielder depending on the Konerko situation).
  4. QUOTE (Ozzie Ball @ Nov 6, 2009 -> 11:09 AM) I really wish they had gone for DeJesus over Teahen. I'm a huge Dejesus fan and him and Rios plus a now (hopefully) healthy Quentin would have been a huge defensive upgrade over 2009's outfield. Offensively that outfield wouldnt' be great, but I'd be okay with it, especially if Rios came back closer to his career norms. And a healthy Quentin will be much better than this years version, imo (and I think he'll be healthy). Q works hard and has had some fluke injuries but long-term he'll be ok. I think if you brought in a DeJesus and than got agressive to try and find a DH we could have a pretty solid all aruond offense. Not an explosive one, but a solid one that will consistently score. Not to mention our team defense would be much improved and that is key since we should have one of the best rotations in baseball and a good defense and solid offense should be what it takes (hopefully a solid pen too) to take this team to the playoffs and beyond.
  5. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 6, 2009 -> 11:08 AM) Correct, but at this point, maybe his plus defense and a little speed would be enough? I have no idea who we will be able to put in that spot from the FA market. I think the most important spot to fill is the DH at this point. The offense could use two quality bats. If we go after a Royal, got and get Dejesus. I think we could use two more higher average, higher obp guys and Dejesus and maybe even Johnny Damon (depending on cost) could fit that bill nicely. Nick Johnson is another nice option that we've all discussed (health is a major concern though).
  6. Royals dont' have anyone else available that really would fit the Sox needs or at least I don't think they do. DeJesus would be a nice fit though.
  7. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 6, 2009 -> 10:36 AM) Since PODS is not coming back our outfield has a hole, who will we fill it with? We also have a void in the middle of the order. So right now the holes are at DH and the OF. Now holes in the infield. I'm curious as to what the Sox will do. Plus the bullpen. I still think we will move another contract and than allocate the funds saved to fill multiple spots (I'm looking at Paulie and Jenks)
  8. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 6, 2009 -> 10:27 AM) It's like, "no honey, I dont need to watch 6 hours of college football on saturday, I would MUCH rather sit around at brunch with you and your girlfriends." No I f***ing dont, and I'll tell you that so you dont think thats the norm moving forward. This is what I do, and I will be doing this until I have grandkids standing in front of the TV. Watching a movie that she wants to watch isn't the end of the world. Its not like your giving up your favorite thing in the world to do. Big difference in.....going antiquing during an OSU (or in my case a Bears game) game and going out to a movie she wants to see on a Friday or Saturday night. I'm sure she'll end up sitting through far more of your type of movies (Shipps) than you sit through hers.
  9. It could be leverage too. I hope we move another direction though.
  10. QUOTE (League @ Nov 6, 2009 -> 09:15 AM) Hardy is one of the best defensive shortstops in baseball, the last 3 seasons he has posted UZR's of 14.8, 8.2 and 6.7, he's never had a negative UZR and has always had high RngR's as well, and his career high for errors is 15. I stand corrected. Can't say I watch a ton of Brewers games but I always heard analysts saying he had poor range at short. Hell, I thought that was the big reason they wanted Escobar (because he was going to be such a defensive upgrade). Cause personally, I don't think much of Escobar as he doesn't have too many offensive tools.
  11. QUOTE (BigEdWalsh @ Nov 6, 2009 -> 08:43 AM) Not a big deal. It's what you do in a normal relationship, a lot of sucking up. When I was dating my wife I took her to see Apocalypse Now. I loved it, but it wasn't exactly the kinda movie chicks like. Very shortly after we were married she wanted to see Xanadu. I went...what a piece of crap movie that was. Through the course of being married I watched a lot of crap I for sure wouldn't have watched were I on my own. You go. You don't even have to pretend to like it though for the sake of the relationship maybe you should at least say, "Eh. It was alright". Be sure to chuckle a few times. This is true, I've seen more shows on weddings and crap like that on tv than I'll ever need to see again. But I guess thats love, haha.
  12. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Nov 6, 2009 -> 07:52 AM) I would recommend punching your own face. That isn't even as bad as having to watch a Tyler Perry movie. Wow, awful, awful Jeffrey.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Nov 6, 2009 -> 08:14 AM) Any Internal Audit work? We dont' have any internal audit department, we basically pay KPMG big bucks to do that and they do quite the s***ty job at that. If you want to move into the private accounting side I'm pretty sure we can find something. A couple acquisitions are on the way which will create more opportunities.
  14. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 6, 2009 -> 09:29 AM) Hudson plays 2B and leads off? OF consists of Q, Rios and Teahen. Not great, but not terrible if you are just trying to put a team on the field to support your good pitching. We still need a DH, preferably left handed and a pen arm or two. Plus you have some guys who could break-out and you just hit enough to contend, at the deadline make a move for a bigger bat to hopefully put you over the top. If the Sox go with Teahen/Hudson, could they get into the bidding and make a move for Manny Ramirez? Dodgers would probably pay a good chunk of cash so they could address other needs (pitching) and Sox wouldn't have to give up a lot prospect wise for a year of Manny. Not sure if I'd do it and probably not a realistic possibility.
  15. QUOTE (fathom @ Nov 6, 2009 -> 09:25 AM) The Sox will be going after one of the 2nd basemen in the FA market. Nix will be the back-up again, and Teahen will be playing RF for the Sox next year. I think Orlando Hudson is the likely 2nd baseman for the Sox next year. I still think Konerko goes. Or that the Sox make a push to move him this year.
  16. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 6, 2009 -> 09:22 AM) Clearly they saw the need to add more versatility and also a bigger LH bat than Getz. I think we are looking at a Dye for 2 players scenario salary-wise. Right now we have I believe 74 million committed for next season? He's entering his prime so he clearly could break out and be a 20HR guy with a lot of doubles. He's a very good base-runner. I see potential in this deal, but I think its a little risky. Not that I think Getz will ever be a super-star and Fields I could care less about (I wish him nothing but the best of luck elsewhere, but he'll never amount to anything in Chicago so KC is a good place for him). I have to think we get at least a M. You also have to remember we had a serious void from the left side of the plate. Mark should help that void.
  17. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Nov 6, 2009 -> 09:20 AM) God, i hope it's the 1st. If we really moved a good kid like Getz, because Dye took issue with some generic, young comment of his then i've lost a lot of respect for this organization. I completely agree with you. It says a lot that Retherford was sent to the AFL.
  18. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Nov 6, 2009 -> 09:14 AM) Trade is done. Cash is coming over from KC. Ok, this makes me a bit happier. If we get a mill or two, I'm ok with the move cause it really gives Kenny the flexibility to make some interesting moves. I also wonder if Retherford has really opened the org's eyes to the point that it made Getz a bit more expendable. Or was Getz moved because of the stuff said in that Gonzalez interview.
  19. QUOTE (fathom @ Nov 6, 2009 -> 08:57 AM) I was told by a family friend of Dye's this morning that his first choice is to go play for Ron Washington and Texas. His first choice is to stay with the Sox, but he knows that isn't in the plans. So after that Ron Washington makes the most sense. He likes him from his days with the A's and well, Texas is a pretty damn good place to hit.
  20. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 6, 2009 -> 09:08 AM) Considerin Teahen's salary is not that much and is predictable over the next 2 years, I think KW has seen that he can have 2 players at the cost of Jermaine Dye and will sign either another pen arm, a Cuban player or will use that cost savings to make a free agent signing of a middle of the road or 2 year player at DH. Teahen and Kotsay have basically every backup position covered outside of 2, and we really need a LHP out of the pen. Buddy Bell must be on board on this deal. Teahen has the tools, so I just hope it works out.
  21. The more I think about this deal, the more I like it (from a Sox perspective). Gomez is the type of guy that will develop to someone that will be a thorn in our side, imo. I realize he was benched for a chunk of last year, but he's got tools and I love tools. Hardy can hit for power, but is coming of a down year and is a butcher with the glove. Twins are taking a chance, but he'll really hurt there team D and this really is a non-Twins like move. I'm very curious to see how this works out for each team. Brewers clearly didn't have a need for Hardy with Escobar being there future at SS.
  22. I like the trade from the Twins perspect, however, I think in time Gomez is going to turn into a very good player, one who might be more valuable than Hardy in time, but thats a big iff and the Brewers are buying low (than again, so are the Twins). However, Hardy hits very well and the Twins could use some more offensive guys to go around Mauer/Morneau. I'm not going to lie and I know most people dont' like Gomez and think he's over-rated, but I'd be all about getting him from the Brewers (although it looks like they will be penciling him into CF hoping he gets his s*** together). Long term I think he's going to be a good leadoff hitter who plays a plus defensive CF.
  23. This was just a formality. The Sox still have a window where they can bring back Dye at a discounted rate. The problem is at one point they'd have to offer him aribtration to continue negotiating with him (or at least I believe thats the case). Or am I mistaken?

QUOTE (kapkomet @ Nov 5, 2009 -> 03:06 PM) f***, I'm about to. And on the no promotion thing, it sounds like its coming to an end....with me getting a promotion. At least thats what HR told me this week, although I dont' think it becomes official for another month or two. Interviewing another candidate to be my staff later on this week (brought in one already). Its pretty fun being on the interviewing side of things.
  25. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Nov 5, 2009 -> 06:48 PM) Only 7 times since 1960 has a White Sox starting 1B put up an OPS+ of 99 or lower. Only 18 times since 2000 has a starting AL 1B posted an OPS+ under 100. Mark Teahen has been in the 90's since 2007. He was at 94 last year. Oh, I'm not saying its what I'd do, just stating what could be going on for the Sox and this move ultimately gives them flexibility to move Paulie. Basically the Sox end up thinking Paulie's cash and the guy they can get for Paulie, plus Teahan > Getz/Konerko/Fields. I don't know what the plan is and I definitely would tell you that the current version of Teahan isn't an adequate first baseman. I do think Mark has a lot of nice tools, but again, your paying a lot of money for that. I'd love it if he was a bench player who might be able to fight and earn a starting spot, but in this case, we are handing him a starting spot at a productin position which is a little scary, but there is a ton of the off-season left to go. Very odd that nothing has been confirmed or denied at this point. There is definitely smoke to this, but its also definitely not the final deal, imo.
