Official 2008-2009 NBA Thread
QUOTE (DBAHO @ May 31, 2009 -> 01:19 AM) The Knicks are actually building a decent enough nucleus ATM. They'll prob sign Steve Nash if he hits UFA in 2010 (doubtful now since Gentry is coaching in PHX), and they'll re-sign David Lee and with him, Gallinari, this year's draft pick etc. they've got some pieces to build upon. Just how would the Bulls get enough cap space to sign Lebron anyways? They'd probably have to trade someone like Deng for an expiring contract right? But as for the Cavs, I think this series showed that they need better players down low, and a 3/4 type of forward who can stretch the floor ALA Rashard Lewis (someone better than Wally Szcerbiak). All Igauskas is good for now is hitting long jump shots, Vareajao's an energy guy at best (and the guy I despise most in the NBA besides Lebron), while there's word that Ben Wallace could retire now. Andrew, if the Bulls want they can easily clear CAP room to offer two guys from the 2010 class max deals. Doesn't mean they'd get them, but they are in a great cap position. You move Deng or Hinrich and its an even better one.

Minor League Catch-All thread 2009 edition
Santos was a pretty big local prospect back in the day. 1st round pick and he is supposed to have a pretty big arm or at least did.

Eating Some Crow!!!!!
Remember Shipps, Poreda is projected by some to slide into the pen. While I think he has a great trade value and I'm not opposed to moving him I also think he could just as easily come in and be a dominant reliever. Oh and his sinker is really good so he might very well be able to be a very very sucessful starter for a long time too and it shouldn't be a problem having a ton of lefties since the lefties all are a bit different (Poreda being a power lefty, Buehrle being crafty, Danks being crafty with better stuff and Richard having a bit of power himself).

Beckham Promoted to AAA
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 30, 2009 -> 12:46 PM) Then we package Shelby, Rutherford, Getz, and whoever else we don't have room for and go out and trade for Lincecum, and we've got a 10 year dynasty. Beautiful idea. Its fun when you have talented guys in the system. THey may all bust but its just fun to see fresh blood developing and at least get ideas of grandeur in your head.

Beckham Promoted to AAA
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 30, 2009 -> 12:42 PM) That'd be a hell of an OF if you can put Anderson and D2: the Mighty Danks out there at the same time without hurting yourself offensively. Good speed from 2/3 slots, probably solid power all around, hopefully we can get them all hitting right around .300. Man, even without considering Viciedo...that's an explosive 1-9. And you should be abl to get away with it power wise since Quentin has tons of power, BA (if he's hitting for an averge, will also hit for power, at least 20hr type of power), Viciedo/Allen/Konerko or whomever else is in the other power spots of the lineup have power and than Flowers as well with power. And again, defensively, wow.

With Pods and BA hitting, I really really like that lineup.

Beckham Promoted to AAA
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 30, 2009 -> 12:37 PM) If Josh Fields can be a 30+ HR, .250 average, 175 K's guy, 100RBi...and Alexei can keep up what he's currently doing...then your IF is Fields, Alexei, Beckham, 1b. I like Getz, but right now he's struggling worse than Fields...and he has no where near as high of a ceiling. Beckham and Ramirez up the middle will be one of the best offensive 2b/ss pairings in baseball, up there with Utley/Rollins perhaps. If you're worried about that silly "Who will lead off" question...put Beckham there until D2: the Mighty Danks takes over for Anderson. Hopefully Anderson keeps hitting and you can slide D2 into RF with Quentin in LF. That would be a pretty damn solid defensive outfield.

2009 MLB Pre-Draft Discussion
I think Crow would be a great pick for them, especially with them wanting to make the big splash during the international signing period. I'd back that move from the Pirates perspective.

QUOTE (dasox24 @ May 29, 2009 -> 07:13 PM) Glad UVA pulled out the win, though! UVA is gonna go to the world series. They are a freaking good team. Oh and my Titans mauled Utah, using our Saturday starter. Our ace will be out there tonight against the Zags and hopefully he shows up and our offense shows up.

QUOTE (shipps @ May 30, 2009 -> 06:34 AM) Strasburg did not WOW me like I thought he would. He is a prospect and he is not major league ready like I heard from other people. Did you keep watching? He started looking like a man among boys. It was insane and he wasn't even throwing his fastball that often.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 29, 2009 -> 06:46 PM) This was the first chance I've had to catch Strasburg live. Dude is even better than advertised. Virginia has one of the top 5 offenses in the country and they had no chance after the second inning. Strasburg single-handedly gives the Nationals instant credibility. He could definitely pitch and more importantly be effective in the majors right now. I was at the game and I won't lie, the first three or so innings I was completley unimpressed. I saw big league stuff but he was struggling a bit. Than as the game went on and on, he got into a rhythm and damn did he look good, like real good. All against a very very good team. I still don't think he's as ready as some say cause I think he's got command issues but his delivery is very clean and he showed a very advanced feel for his off-speed stuff, which is to me what makes him special. Oh and he must have insane movement cause the catcher was looking like an idiot behind the plate. There was one fastball that completely missed the catchers glove and caught him right in the chest protector (and it wasn't due to him expecting an offspeed pitch and getting the heat either).

Sox acquire Ramon Castro and cash for Lance Broadway
Thats decent value for Broadway than (the cash plus Castro). Not a bad move at all. I think Brodway will have a solid career but I'm really digging that Peavy proposal more and more knowing who three of the parts were (or at least assume to know that it was Poreda/Richard/Brodway.

Sox acquire Ramon Castro and cash for Lance Broadway
QUOTE (JPN366 @ May 29, 2009 -> 09:21 PM) I haven't seen him pitch in person in 2 years. I do remember that he struggled with command back then, but it seems he's worked it out. He was throwing mid 90's? When I saw him down in Kanny he was throwing like 5 pitches but had little command of any of them and the plus fastball advertised from the draft was non-existent, but I might have just seen him on a bad day. That said I thought he was pitching in the 88-92 MPH range now. Am I wrong?

QUOTE (greg775 @ May 29, 2009 -> 08:25 PM) Another first-round draft bust for those of you in love with baseball's draft. The Sox have a ton of former 1st round picks on there roster, so while he might have busted you can thank the top rounds of the draft for Quentin/Konerko/Floyd/Danks/AJ (and than of course BA/Fields/etc).

QUOTE (Felix @ May 30, 2009 -> 07:12 AM) A solid offensive player who is one of the worst in the majors at his position defensively? Honestly, I would be pretty disappointed if his defense ended up at Jeter's level. Obviously the offense would be great, but if he's that bad defensively I hope we have to common sense to ensure he never plays SS in the majors (which looks likely with Alexei there). I think its a solid comparison and while people hate on Jeters defense (deservingly so), he wasn't always a terrible defensive SS. As he got older and lost his range it got there. He's just not a super toolsy shortstop.

Eating Some Crow!!!!!
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 30, 2009 -> 11:46 AM) I know Clayton was mentioned by some during his ascent through the Sox system, but I know that no one here at least expected what we have seen out of him since be became a starter. Do people think that this is going to be the Clayton Richard that we see going forward, or are there people out there who are expected the same, once through the order, guy, that we saw last year? Should we even be talking about trading Clayton, even in a package for a top of the line starter? Richard has the stuff to pitch in the bigs. He has a good arm angle and for whatever reason batters don't get a good read off of his stuff as they rarely square him up. I'm not quite certain why because he doesn't have filthy movement but from where it comes the ball is disguised well and guys just don't pick it up well. On top of that he's doing a stellar job changing speeds and locations and really looks good. I think as his command improves we are talking about a guy with the upside to be a good middle of the rotation starter (and thats freaking awesome). He seems to have a pretty smooth delivery, which is another plus and his velocity is definately nice from the left side. I've long wondered whether Clayton had the secondary stuff to succeed and I still don't know if he does but as long as he changes speeds like he's been doing he'll be alright. Keep doing that, improve the command and hone your craft and we got a good one. Worse case he'll be a f***ing stud lefty reliever long-term.

2009 MLB Pre-Draft Discussion
QUOTE (BearSox @ May 29, 2009 -> 07:09 PM) If we go the leadoff hitter route, I'm looking at Tim Wheeler. Much more polished than Mitchell, but less upside. However, I'd rather get a solid leadoff hitter over the next Joey Gatright. Right now, if Brothers and Leake aren't around at 23, I want one of Pollack, Wheeler, or Sanchez. Wheeler is right there with Pollack. I prefer Pollack but Wheeler is a great get and better than the Cal guy.

Draft Profile - Rex Brothers, LHP
He won't be around, but a name thats dropping is White out of UNC. I was talking to a guy at yesterday's game, not sure how credible of a source he is or not, but he was scouting Strasburg and I had asked him about White and it sounds like his stock has taken a hit. He probalby goes 5 picks before ours, but if he slides to 23, White would be a f***ing awesome arm to get in the system.

Why SoxTalk is the best Sox minor league site
I will long say that I'm not certain there is another site in all of baseball with the in depth minor league knowledge of there specific team more than Soxtalk. And its a compliment to everyone on here.

Just because Ben Balder said it, doesn't mean it'll be happen but its still nice as hell to see the Sox have a prospect that gets talked in this type of manner.
