  1. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Mar 10, 2009 -> 03:49 PM) Because Chris Getz is not a major league shortstop and Nix hasn't played anywhere but 2B since 2001. The thing that stinks is, the Sox could have picked up OC for another year. Obviously it wasn't happening but I'd have been thrilled paying 4M for his production. I think the big problem is the Sox have absolutely no one who really projects as a leadoff hitter on there roster. Hell, Owens might be the best option (if you are looking for a true leadoff hitter) and no that isn't a good thing, its a f***ing awful thing. Beckham is the only guy on the roster, other than Ramirez, capable of being an everyday shortstop. The problem is Ramirez might have some defensive issues as he adjusts. However, I do think that if there is one thing Ozzie knows, it's defense and the shortstop position and I can't see him putting a guy at SS on an everyday basis who will really struggle, so I'm going to hope Ozzie's comments are right and that Ramirez will surprise us all defensively. I'm not doubting that he has the tools, just that there will be a learning curve. I will say this, if Kenny can, now would be the time to dip into those resources and find a way to acquire a starting centerfielder.
  2. QUOTE (BearSox @ Mar 9, 2009 -> 06:45 PM) What's the velocity on his fastball? He's got really good movement on it, and that slider is really good as well. If anyone ventures into the college baseball thread I made a couple posts about him. Two or three games ago multiple scouts had him at 101 and 102. The guy is absolutely filthy.
  3. Pretty good tuesdsay matchup going on in college stations as #3 A&M will go against #6 Fullerton.
  4. Titans sweep!!!
  5. If they get off to a bad start they are in trouble. Than again, you could say that about the Sox if they have an awful season.
  6. I loved Neal in 05, the guy was unhittable with that hitch. No one could catch his fastball and he was dominant. HIs arm started hurting and he had to make some mechanical adjustments and unfortunately the deception in his delivery went away and without it he was unable to be successful. I wish Neal nothing but the best and will always remember when he became a member of Soxtalk and went on to be the most productive member in Soxtalk history (thus far). And I say that as him being an open member of Soxtalk (ie, who actually posted).
  7. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 6, 2009 -> 01:57 PM) He really looks like Liney out there. I dont know about his stuff, but he's deceptive and has good pop. This is off my memory, which isn't as good as it once was thanks to work forcing other s*** into my head, but I believe he was touted as having a pretty good slider to go with that fastball. I haven't seen it today though.
  8. Matt Holliday, Jason Bay, Vladdy (albeit he's older now, still solid), Magglio (option), Dye (option), Ankiel is a pretty damn good crp of FA outfielders.
  9. Omogrosso was primarily a reliever in college and the Sox used him in the rotation to try and have him make progress on his secondary stuff. I think we'll see him settle back into a pen role and eventually make the Sox pen. I mentioned it before, but they think pretty highly of him. Mechanically he looks pretty sound and he definately has some nice pop on the FB.
  10. QUOTE (tommy @ Mar 6, 2009 -> 01:52 PM) I'm loving this banner, props to whoever deserves it. Kalapse!!!
  11. I like this Australian lefty.
  12. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Mar 6, 2009 -> 01:50 PM) Danks played in one split squad game that wasn't televised, I think he had a couple hits. He's in minor league camp so we're not going to see much of him until near the end of spring when rosters start getting pared down and the players from minor league camp start getting some time near the end of games. Excellent, I hope to see him play when I'm there in the end of March.
  13. QUOTE (flavum @ Mar 6, 2009 -> 01:49 PM) Omogrosso is an older guy, but I think he's got a future in the pen someday. Too lazy to research it, but he was a pretty high pick, I believe 5th or 6th round.
  14. I'm going to go out on a limb and say Team Australia has no chance in the WBC.
  15. Has Jordan Danks played at all? And Dayan looks f***ing stellar.
  16. Dayan seems a bit more patient than the typicaly Cuban. Albeit its on a very small sample size.
  17. Wow, that was an awful K. Hanging curve.
  18. Beautiful Beckham. Back up the middle.
  19. That was a cookie.
  20. Flowers is f***ing huge.
  21. Awesome, Omogrosso working quickly and just dominated. Three k's. Still needs to develop his off-speed stuff a bit but you can't coach arms like that.
