  1. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Dec 31, 2009 -> 08:50 AM) People are trying to solve 21st century problems with 20th century ideas of massive warfare. We could "do what it takes" to "win a war" in Iraq or Afghanistan but that isn't going to solve a single problem and will likely, as you've already pointed out, make matters worse. No, "we're" not. But, Americans don't want to fight a real war, because a real war is ugly. We want this pretty, machine driven, no deaths type of warfare, which frankly is not reality. But as long as we can keep the appearances up of fighting half assed to satisfy the political aspects of war, it's all "ok". War is a terribly ugly business. I haven't advocated "massive warfare" at all against this enemy. You have to have surgical strikes with small elements of special forces to be effective. But, they need to go and wipe out the enemy areas in total. You can't just go in and hope for the best "political" outcome.
  2. QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Dec 30, 2009 -> 08:17 PM) Obama's Nobel Prize speech by the way is an amazing piece of writing. Funny what he said isn't much different then what Bush said. That's the only time he's come across more like a "hawk" that you all make him out to be.
  3. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 30, 2009 -> 08:54 AM) Who should we be invading, and why should I think that it would work better than the last 2 terrorist fighting total failure invasions? Should we be invading Yemen and murdering clerics? No, we should just bow to them, sing kumbayah, and toast their efforts. After all, everything they do we caused it.
  4. What is your ultimate goal? If it's to sit for the CPA exam, an MA program is the way to go. If it's not, perhaps an MBA in Finance might be more suited for you. Along with the MBA in Finance, you could sit for an exam like the CMA and still get a good accounting related position (more in an analysis role). The CMA will force you to understand management accounting and model things out. Just some thoughts to pass your way.
  5. QUOTE (lostfan @ Dec 29, 2009 -> 06:01 PM) Who are we being nice to? Al-Qaida? Dude, no. Never. Perpetual warfare is a self-fulflilling prophecy (what do you think dominates al-Jazeera coverage, it's either Gaza or crying widows in Iraq or Afghanistan). There are ways of going after terrorist cells overseas without mobilizing multiple divisions and occupying random countries for decades at a time, I won't even get into moral reasons or why that makes terrorist networks grow rather than shrink, because it's just not practical or economically viable. The actual goal of any counterterrorist policy is to REDUCE the threat of terrorism, not to inadvertently make it worse. One of the unintended consequences of Iraq was to create the third wave of global jihad, the effects of which we really haven't totally seen yet). I think everybody is confusing Obama's low-key approach (hyping it up plays into their hands actually, it's something they hope and expect us to do) with not treating it as a priority. We're never going to defeat it with straight-up military force, that concept is just absurd on its face. That's not necessarily what I mean. However, if we were to do what it takes to really win any war now - Americans on the face do not have the stomach for real war anymore. Even the commando style small force type of stuff that would be pretty bloody. They just don't, and they never will, after Vietnam.
  6. QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Dec 29, 2009 -> 04:25 PM) Working with governments is not an appeasement policy when your enemy is a trans global non-government. Unless said governments align themselves with these nuts, and some do.
  7. QUOTE (Cknolls @ Dec 29, 2009 -> 12:22 PM) What is the over/under in days for the fall of the gov't in Iran? My best guess is days to 1 month. We can only hope.
  8. Here's the bottom line, IMO. To say that Obama is personally responsible makes about as much sense as saying Bush was personally responsible for 9/11. Obama is not responsible for this. With that said, to want to make nice and want to "reach out" and be "friends" with these assholes is a mistake in policy. An appeasement policy doesn't, hasn't, and will never work, and Obama's policies are more closely to that side then where we were. While his administration's policies don't DIRECTLY correlate to these sorts of attacks, indirectly they do because you can't handle this as a "police matter" or "as it happens", you have to screw over these assholes and put them in their graves before they do any of us, no matter how ugly this may seem to the bleeding hearts.
  9. go to windows start menu go to run cmd ipconfig /all see what your ip addy is registering try to do a release, renew: ipconfig /release ipconfig /renew see if that works... if that doesn't, you need to go into your router, usually by typing http://192.168.1.* (you should be able to get this number by looking at the ip addy you got when you did your ipconfig /all ) the default passwords are admin and admin, usually - see your instructions. I can't remember but I think you can set your ip ranges on one of the screens once you login. See if that gets you anywhere.
  10. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 27, 2009 -> 05:07 PM) I just finished redoing mine. Heh. But, Dallas did get three inches of snow on Christmas Eve. We missed it. Oh, and we're supposed to get a couple of more on Tuesday. That will be three accumulating snows in December - which is a lot for around here.
  11. I think I won by 1/2 a point. How about that Atlanta call, Beast? Nice pick up.
  12. This is the third time in 5 years I've been in the championship in my league (it's pretty damn competetive). I took a gamble on Atlanta's defense tomorrow - honestly, I've been flexing my defense all season. Schaub's been playing decent as of late. Your receivers are a little weak but you have to hope one comes through - gotta look at those matchups. I've got: Warner Jennings Derrick Mason (taking him over Hines Ward - that injury of his worries me) MJonesDrew Ricky Williams Antonio Gates (already played, got me 14.5) G. Hartley Atlanta defense And my biggest gamble probably is NOT playing Jerome Harrison (the one who got 48.0 pts last week) - I sure hope that's not a mistake - I picked him up after last week but am thinking that there's no way he gets those touches again.
  13. Santa believes CO2 emitting coal is only in the United States. The stuff the rest of the world burns is laughing gas.
  14. Because the US is the most evil and RICH country in the world. Rich f***ers never shared their money, and they MUST pay.
  15. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 23, 2009 -> 08:50 AM) The 10 months of debate since the Stimulus plan passed and the entire 2008 Presidential Campaign, of course, don't count. Ramrod! There hasn't been. All nighters and Christmas Eve all so that an arrogant President can get a 20 minute applause line. If this didn't get passed, what would his SOTU speech even be about?
  16. QUOTE (Cknolls @ Dec 23, 2009 -> 06:42 AM) So he lied when he said we are going to change the Wash. works? He said he would not sign a bill that was not deficit neutral. This bill starts collecting taxes in 2010-11 and does not start spending until 2014. 1o years of spending puts this bill at 1.8-2.5 trillion in cost. No way is this deficit neutral. And on a side note, why did this NEED to get passed before Christmas? There has never been a piece of legislation ram rodded through like this one. Oh what the hell, its only 16-17% of our economy. Keep up the good work guys. Another thing, when the give the wash to the unions by exempting them from the cadillac plan tax, how do we make for that lost revenue? They had to have this done so he can get his 20 minutes of applause when he stands up there for the state of the union - IIIIII-Bama strikes again. Then, he can talk about deficit reduction the rest of the speech. Which, of course, is the most hypocrticial thing ever.
  17. Okay, this is all mushy... but I'm serious, no Kaperbole ™. I know that we all often disagree with stuff around here, and 99.9% of the time it's not personal... I have had a pretty rough year, but at the same time I certainly wish every one of you regulars a great Christmas (yea, even you, BigSqwert, you non-believing Santa Claus goof... ). I wish all of you all the best this holiday season, and let's all hope for a (non-Rex) kick ass 2010. This is certainly one of the best sites to get information where you can't get it anywhere else from across a political spectrum. I joke a lot here, more then most of you realize judging from your reactions... All the best to you all.
  18. QUOTE (lostfan @ Dec 22, 2009 -> 10:46 PM) Yeah, to some degree, but the Senate rules are what they are and it's kinda impractical for Congress to just change they way they do their daily business (i.e., carry out negotiations in committee) just because the president wants them to. I know that. But since I-Bama's up in there fixin' everything up... he needs to get that crap fixed. I'm kidding.
  19. QUOTE (lostfan @ Dec 22, 2009 -> 10:39 PM) wtf are you guys talking about? 8th grade civics anyone? The topic was the Senate and you guys are bringing up Obama and transparency as if they were all the same thing for some reason and Obama is running this show. Come on now. You all know better but choose to act like this... why? He's the party leader... he needs to clean that s*** up.
  20. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Dec 22, 2009 -> 10:05 PM) Leave it to an unemployed conservative to root for a douche that received a $73M bonus for doing nothing to better society. He's my man. He's going to make me millions some day.
  21. QUOTE (lostfan @ Dec 22, 2009 -> 10:26 PM) Yeah taxes and big government is just killing China's economy right now. It's not even remotely the same. You can't compare the two.
  22. Yep! They are evil, too. Get them mfer's. GET THEM! I hope you get the point that is being made, but I'm sure you don't (or rather would ignore it).
  23. Yea, it would diminish it... but it would be pretty damn hard to notice for the common folk.
