  1. QUOTE (lostfan @ Sep 28, 2009 -> 05:00 PM) So I have a gym membership, which of course I never use but I have to keep paying until January. Anyway I had it set to automatically bill me and I get a note in the mail today saying I owe like 300-something dollars. So I'm like WTF is this s***, they say they didn't get my card's expiration date so they just stopped charging me. I never noticed, and they never notified me, they wait until now to do it. And they have the audacity to charge me a late fee too. Decision made: gym membership in 2010 unnecessary Yea.
  2. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 28, 2009 -> 06:15 PM) What did you have to do to get the extentions? I am almost there. The state is supposed to mail you something - it's a simple form. But here, I called the Texas Workforce Commission, she asked the questions over the phone and I didn't even miss any payments. You have to wait until you've exhausted the original claim, though. Call the day after.
  3. Your question was what would they do to Isreal, not what they would do to us. We are obviously not going to fight Iran. We just need to talk to them to get them to get their head out of their ass.
  4. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Sep 28, 2009 -> 04:56 PM) Same benefits the whole time? Yes. The first 26 weeks is paid for by the company via the unemployment insurance (tax), the next 20 is covered by a bill passed in 2008 even before the worst of this hit, and the last 13 weeks is currently on the table - I think the House has voted it through and the Senate is taking it up this week.
  5. QUOTE (lostfan @ Sep 28, 2009 -> 03:41 PM) Likewise I think you'd be surprised by how strong Iran's military actually is. Not really. I mean their whole infastructure was designed for fighting in the 1980s. Now they've got some technology with it.
  6. Illinois and Indiana are both covered. This is an extension to the extension... you get 26 weeks, then 20 more, then yet another 13 weeks.
  7. I think you'd be surprised at what all they hit. They won't hit everything, but they'll hit more then you think.
  8. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 28, 2009 -> 02:03 PM) Israel is not going to take out the entire Iranian military. They couldn't realistically do that, not in a short period of time anyway. Of course not.
  9. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 28, 2009 -> 02:24 PM) Unemployment rate in Chicago actually dipped for the second straight month. And because of the extension of long-term benefits, the number isn't an artificial drop-off either. Sort of surprising to see Chicago possibly trending out faster than the rest of the country, but we'll see how sustainable this is. By the way, I am in agreement with people who point out that the standard U number isn't very accurate because of all the exceptions, and that U-6 is really a more accurate picture. But I think its amusing that people point to the drop and say "that's because people have been work over a year dropped out", because that is a fallacy for two reasons. One, because of the extension of benefits, its not true anyway. Two, even if it were, we weren't dropping jobs like flies in July 2008 - so you are replacing those numbers with current ones and showing a better result, so that actually means it is MORE positive than it would otherwise be. Anyway, I think its likely this number doesn't move much, but stays semi-level for a while - but even that is progress. Extension of benefits doesn't go past a year at this point, although Congress is working on it for states with unemployment above 8.5%
  10. QUOTE (lostfan @ Sep 28, 2009 -> 01:26 PM) We dropped the ball on this once, no reason for us to repeat the mistakes of 2 generations ago. What I want to know is what people think Iran will do if Israel actually did bomb them. If Isreal does it right, not a damn thing.
  11. Man, ya'll came after me when I called him RSO. And now, Mighty Mouse (here I come to save the day)... And Barackus the Great. And... maybe he's just of the heroes mold.
  12. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Sep 28, 2009 -> 01:09 PM) My guess is because they will let inspectors in, but do what Iraq did... "you cant go THERE because it's holy ground". Oh, that could be a little justification as to why the Iraq war happened in the first place, but let's not derail the subject totally. It's just a point.
  13. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 28, 2009 -> 12:22 PM) lame isn't funny. Hell, I could come up with something that was at least a little funny. Call him teleprompt-Obama, or Barackstar, or something at least mildly connected to him. Mighty Mouse? I could have called W, Elmer Fudd too, but seriously, that's just lame. HEEEEEEEEERE I AM TO SAAAAAAAAVE THE DAY!!!!!!!!! C'mon. It's a chortle, at least.
  14. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 28, 2009 -> 12:14 PM) I got this info from a pretty solid source, but by word of mouth. There is an initial round of voting, and the results would be announced at 11am Chicago time on Friday from that. Then the horse-trading and second round occur, supposedly resulting in a final vote by 3pm. But, the rule is a vote plurality - it takes as many rounds as needed to get 50% for someone. So I suppose its possible that someone could get over 50% ont he first vote, but apparently that is very rare. I seem to recall that they split - then they consolidate when it appears that their city is gone. In other words, there's bribes up the ass that gets traded after each vote.
  15. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 28, 2009 -> 12:11 PM) Discussed in the Olympics thread (in the Sports Pub). Mighty Mouse? Kinda lame, I'd think his opponents could come up with better nicknames than that. It's lame, but it's funny.
  16. QUOTE (lostfan @ Sep 26, 2009 -> 06:07 PM) Ford declined federal money IIRC. They didn't need it and didn't want to have the government telling them what they could or couldn't do. That's correct. A true story: had to do a strategic plan for a company in MBA (one of many presentations of course) - we did presentation on Ford, and no joke, a year before they did it, we pretty much NAILED what they would do, all the way down to the brands that they sold off. I must say that was one of the best parts of the program because looking back, we made the same decisions that the executives made.
  17. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 25, 2009 -> 01:51 PM) So this is what Kap has been working on while unemployed. Well just to make sure everyone is clear: I think the birther bit is crap. So, other then that, yea, it's been my main mission in life.
  18. QUOTE (Tex @ Sep 25, 2009 -> 12:07 PM) I thought he was a journalist with some career credentials. I'm thinking they are looking for a Joe the Plumber. I'm thinking some retiree who was screwed over my medicare or the VA. Perhaps from Obama's district. I see what you mean. Well, hell, most anyone that's dealt with the VA has been screwed.
  19. QUOTE (Tex @ Sep 25, 2009 -> 08:41 AM) Exactly. And in the everyone does it, Republicans are looking for their version As for his films, I have no desire to watch current propaganda, not even for entertainment sake. Now I love some of the old cold war stuff. GOP has it. His name is Glenn Beck.
  20. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Sep 24, 2009 -> 10:27 PM) Well I certainly can't accept any form of a bailout after all these posts, I will post the mr_genius alternative sunday or so. I need to get up early tomorrow so I'm going to sleep. and I'm going out drinking tomorrow so I will refrain from a drunken explanation of my much anticipated plan. You do realize that your drunken plan will be better then what comes out of the halls of economists everywhere, right?
  21. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 24, 2009 -> 10:38 PM) And no where in the Constitution did it say that the government could expand the states by purchasing a large tract of land for sale from France, but one Jefferson did just that. When they passed the law.
  22. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Sep 24, 2009 -> 09:57 PM) mark-to-market? Whatever dude. It wasn't the basis of any of my arguments, it just happens to be the profession I'm in so I understand it better then most. So I'm a lazy ass and didn't explain it, but I'm not running around throwing out baseless bulls*** and centering a debate about it. You know I side with your opinions quite a bit, but you're being evasive on this one because you don't know what the hell you're talking about, or if you do, you haven't shown that you do. ETA: by the way, I don't disagree with your premise, you're just not giving any depth as to why when you've been called out on it. It's definitely Ron Paul-follower-esque.
  23. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Sep 24, 2009 -> 09:49 PM) No, I've already given you basics and I suggest you learn to use a search engine if you wish for a detailed plan. You can find plenty of respected economists writings on the bailout which will give you a different perspective. I have given you enough to go off of. Sorry, no bailout on this one for you. Good lord. You're the one spouting this s*** without any real basis for your rants other then "BAILOUTS SUCKETH". How do you know? What could have been done differently? Do you even know? Other then just "something, anything"... which is a load of unbased bulls***.
  24. QUOTE (lostfan @ Sep 24, 2009 -> 09:38 PM) Yeah and their economy isn't doing so great either which is one of the reasons so many people were thinking he would lose. I actually wonder what the real numbers looked like if they weren't so obvious in how they rigged them. He isn't as unpopular in the rest of Iran as it seems from here. Which should tell you something.
  25. QUOTE (lostfan @ Sep 24, 2009 -> 09:28 PM) I didn't mean "you" as in southsider2k5. But Arab leaders are mostly pretty moderate and pretty pro-US, and this pisses off their populations a lot but they don't really have a choice since the leaders were "elected" with 100% of the vote. The actual population is much more anti-Israel and if they had elections (to use the term loosely) like Iran does then you'd see Arab versions of Ahmadinejad. Of course, and isn't that kind of the point?
