  1. QUOTE(Texsox @ Oct 22, 2006 -> 01:03 AM) This country works with so many despicable characters, it's a whos who of potential dictators and other scum. The silence by the Grand Old Party tells me it's either untrue, or business as usual that both parties engage in. If this was a real story you can bet the GOP would be grabbing this story and trying to push Foley off the front pages. Shall we also start talking about the political motivation to have the story break right before elections? If one is to buy into the Foley timing, isn't this just as suspect? No, because the story "broke" two years ago. http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1240644/posts Some right wing hack blogger just dug it up again, as opposed to the left wing hack bloggers that hold onto the story until a month before a mid-term election.
  2. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Oct 19, 2006 -> 05:02 PM) And of course, actually um, being able to lobby for and vote for legislation that puts a highway exit ramp right by that land and therefore massively increases the value is clearly not nearly as bad as dealing with a local zoning commission over which Reid has zero control. It's always rosey smelling poop when it comes from your side. Or, "it's always different".
  3. QUOTE(astralpanda @ Oct 20, 2006 -> 04:00 AM) It's a nice, interesting conspiracy. But I think it just had to do with the money they were paying the other 5 starters. No matter how much we begged for it they never put him in the rotation cause our starters were making 7-10 mil each. That's my opinion anyway. QUOTE(knightni @ Oct 20, 2006 -> 04:02 AM) Sooo... KW sandbagged the team over future $$ this year with BMAC so the Sox would lose out on the playoffs? Yea, you all are right. But if you think about it, if BMac has a good year this year, his future value is not as high as it would have been and he won 15 games in 2006. We all do have to remember that I don't think KW thought we would sign JG AND JC, he really thought one of them would bolt.
  4. This is probably something that should be posted in another thread, but I just was thinking because of the way someone else said something else in this thread.... Did anyone ever stop and think that maybe, just maybe, they let McCarthy rot on purpose this year? The reason I say that is because they know he's going to he that good and wanted to keep him on the cheap for one more year... because that way when his current contract is up, he won't get as much simply because he hasn't put up any numbers, save next year? Do you all see what I'm trying to say? I'm not saying it very well.
  5. QUOTE(Rex Kicka** @ Oct 18, 2006 -> 11:55 PM) Rumor is another Congressman gets accused tomorrow in the pages of the Washington Post. And ummm... let's see...
  6. QUOTE(KipWellsFan @ Oct 19, 2006 -> 03:12 AM) The good ones don't. But (and yes this is generalizing, but help prove me wrong, seriously) most Muslims apparantly aren't "good" in your context here then, because I certainly don't see them condeming their own who do these sorts of things.
  7. He has to move right to get out of the primaries, unless the Dems just beat the s*** out of the Repubs, and I'm still not convinced that this is going to happen quite yet. It's all about the turnout, and I think people are going to be surprised at the turnouts.
  8. QUOTE(Texsox @ Oct 18, 2006 -> 12:35 PM) hmmm, they are contemplating a trip together, spend hours on AIM, and can complete the other's sentences. Maybe there is some diversity in GOPland You are a sick bastard. Sick, but funny. Hey, we need a soxtalk candidate for Congress.
  9. As I said in an earlier post, I know that's what he meant, and I also know that he's smart enough to realize that anything can be taken the wrong way, and he said it anyway. That's my problem with it.
  10. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Oct 18, 2006 -> 12:09 PM) Excellent post. If we actually looked at running the government a little more effeciently, this would be the kind of stuff going out the window too... It will never happen. These eliteist pricks always protect themselves and don't give a crap about us. Maybe someday it will change. You want to go to Washington?
  11. QUOTE(Texsox @ Oct 18, 2006 -> 03:40 AM) Everyone knows he's joking, yet people are trying to make it a bigger deal. Shameful no matter who is doing it. Quit beating around the Bush, Tex. *I'm* not making a bigger deal of it like *you* keep on insinuating, but I certainly think it's worth talking about if he's going to choose to say something that's so stupid. My whole point with the thread is the insensitivity and poisonous political climate has led to some absolutely obnoxious statements out there, and I think it's shameful that we as Americans accept this as "jokes".
  12. QUOTE(Rex Kicka** @ Oct 18, 2006 -> 12:51 AM) If America wasn't so politically poisoned to begin with, nobody would have even thought to make the connection between a bad joke and a threat to the President's life IMHO. Rex, everyone knows he's kidding... but, it's not something you joke about, in that manner. This is supposed to be the "intelligent" presidential candidate, and he should know better.
  13. Also, Tex, I didn't state any opinions other then to say what is wrong with all of us when it comes to joking about this kind of stuff, and not only that, the divide has gotten so bad that it's "acceptable" for this behavior. It's not. Plain and simple. My "manufactured outrage" was directed at society, not John Kerry. He's just an idiot for saying this the way he did.
  14. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 17, 2006 -> 01:50 PM) Sheehan went over the cuckoo's nest a long time ago. I cannot see the YouTube video here at work, but I'll watch it tonight. My gut reaction to the quote is, even if it was part of a joke, it was over the line. I'll reserve further judgement until I see it. That's honestly my sentiments as well, but, it's over the line as you said, and you just do NOT joke about stuff like that. Period.
  15. That's a good hire for the Cubs. Seriously. QUOTE(Steff @ Oct 16, 2006 -> 07:45 PM) The problem is that it is long rumored that the Cubs are run from a higer office than the manager. Lou wont stand for this. And if it's true, he'll quit before spring training is over. Interesting take, but I think that Lou is going to have a lot more control, and franky he's way smarter then Busty.
  16. John Kerry - a presidential candidate and key Democrat: wishes he could go "to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue to kill the real bird with one stone". Are you freaking kidding me? And this asshole gets away with this? Cindy Sheehan, also this weekend: Talking about the Twighlight Zone episode where Hitler was to be killed as a baby, and she suggests that she wishes she could go back in time, like that episode, to kill George Bush as a baby? WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH OUR COUNTRY? It SICKENS me how pathetic we are becoming as human beings. This makes these people no different then the terrorists who want to kill us all and our way of life. With crap like this, why do we deserve our so-called American way of life?
  17. A "liberal" network would work, if they came up with the right business plan. That seemed to be the biggest downfall. Or maybe it was their bias.
  18. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Oct 15, 2006 -> 12:33 AM) The Tigers will regress next year without question. They have some pitching that's for real like Zumaya, Bonderman, and Verlander which will keep them decent, but this offense of theirs really isn't any good, Kenny Rogers and Todd Jones will remember they are washed up, Fernando Rodney and Jamie Walker, as well as Jason Grili and Wilfredo Ledezma will remember they are average. The Tigers will win about 80 to 85 next year, problem is the Twins aren't going away. They'll regress, just like we did this year.
  19. Clinton's welfare package (which he had a lot to do with, along with Gingrich) was one of the best things he did as president.
  20. I agree with your general premise that if they reigned in spending, we would all be better off.
  21. Also what are these numbers as they relate to an overall % of GDP?
  22. Why are higher taxing nations more successful? Because the corporate tax structure is not that different or less then it is here. You're talking individual vs. corporate taxes IIRC (I'll have to look at Sweden, since you brought it up earlier). Taxes come from all different sources, not just individuals. And, individual tax brackets go down, the more times money turns in the economy. It's been proven. Abe, this is a good discussion, even if I disagree with a part of your premise.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Oct 13, 2006 -> 03:53 PM) (even though I am pretty bad at it, but my opinions are so good they deserve to be listened to). Are you drunk?
  24. No, NSS, I didn't say everyone HERE said that (at least in this thread... ), my comment was directly related back to the Slate article.
