  1. oh no... this ought to be interesting.
  2. QUOTE(Soxy @ Aug 2, 2006 -> 04:04 PM) Evangelical pastor speaks against mixing church/politics. Good read. Highlights: Before the last presidential election, he preached six sermons called “The Cross and the Sword” in which he said the church should steer clear of politics, give up moralizing on sexual issues, stop claiming the United States as a “Christian nation” and stop glorifying American military campaigns. “When the church wins the culture wars, it inevitably loses,” Mr. Boyd preached. “When it conquers the world, it becomes the world. When you put your trust in the sword, you lose the cross.” “More and more people are saying this has gone too far — the dominance of the evangelical identity by the religious right,” Mr. McLaren said. “You cannot say the word ‘Jesus’ in 2006 without having an awful lot of baggage going along with it. You can’t say the word ‘Christian,’ and you certainly can’t say the word ‘evangelical’ without it now raising connotations and a certain cringe factor in people. Mr. Boyd lambasted the “hypocrisy and pettiness” of Christians who focus on “sexual issues” like homosexuality, abortion or Janet Jackson’s breast-revealing performance at the Super Bowl halftime show. He said Christians these days were constantly outraged about sex and perceived violations of their rights to display their faith in public. In his six sermons, Mr. Boyd laid out a broad argument that the role of Christians was not to seek “power over” others — by controlling governments, passing legislation or fighting wars. Christians should instead seek to have “power under” others — “winning people’s hearts” by sacrificing for those in need, as Jesus did, Mr. Boyd said. One woman asked: “So why NOT us? If we contain the wisdom and grace and love and creativity of Jesus, why shouldn’t we be the ones involved in politics and setting laws?” Mr. Boyd responded: “I don’t think there’s a particular angle we have on society that others lack. All good, decent people want good and order and justice. Just don’t slap the label ‘Christian’ on it.” I haven't had time to read the link, but this snippet is very interesting... thanks for posting it.
  3. And you're not going to improve RF any more then it is for the money. Period. If you want an upgrade, look to the other OF spots, or more specifically, LF, not RF. JD ain't going anywhere.
  4. QUOTE(G&T @ Aug 2, 2006 -> 02:54 AM) Thats the best he's ever pitched. The Royals always play the Sox better then any other team in the Central. ALWAYS.
  5. QUOTE(Mr. Showtime @ Aug 2, 2006 -> 02:44 AM) Tonight. i missed it, what happened? HBP?
  6. are the xrays from the injury before or something that happened tonight?
  7. /rolly /rolly /rolly Get the hell over it. I could site the same spew crap (if I had hours on end, which I don't) favoring Kerry and the Democrats. So whatever.
  8. QUOTE(SadChiSoxFanOptimist @ Aug 2, 2006 -> 01:50 AM) With all due respect...BITE ME. Soxfan 101 and fellow critics: I've been a Sox fan since the early 60's. Like all you guys, I've.seen alot of baseball. I may have a different perspective than you and a posting manner that challenges the conventional wisdom of the blindly-loyal, self righteous Sox fans who may not be objective enough see a players strengths, weaknesses and impact on the collective capabily of the team. If you can't handle that and need to challenge my team affiliation or mental health, that's your problem, not mine. Frankly, I think a little diverse opinion makes for a more interesting discussion. There's no way Dye gets optioned out of here. No way. He's been MUCH more clutch then our so-called clutch hitters. You NEVER let a 1.000+ OPS guy go, for $6.0M. N-E-V-E-R. Jermaine Dye is NOT the problem, if you're trying to assign the blame here.
  9. It amazes me the juvenile comments people post here sometimes.
  10. What is wrong with eliminating the inheritance tax? Oh wait, more places to get government entitlements. Nevermind I get it.
  11. QUOTE(Chisoxrd5 @ Jul 28, 2006 -> 01:49 PM) I'm kinda sick of hearing from the Sox how untradable Brandon McCarthy is, but then at the same time apparantly he's not good enough to start over Javier Vazquez. Word. Absolutely agree 100%.
  12. Wow, that's actually a damn fine trade for the Rangers.
  13. QUOTE(KevHead0881 @ Jul 27, 2006 -> 09:11 PM) I'd say his worst trade would have to be that Todd Ritchie trade...and that isn't even looking that bad anymore since Wells and Fogg really haven't developed into anything special. What? Are you serious? KW didn't do that, just FYI.
  14. QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 27, 2006 -> 01:01 PM) Disagree totally. These conspiracy theories are worse than high school stuff. Oh, but it sure sounds good when things are "bad".
  15. QUOTE(Steff @ Jul 27, 2006 -> 01:04 PM) What's to miss..? We have 42 mini Jay's right here. The funny thing is, most people don't think they are just like Jay, they're "just voicing their opinions"... SUUUUUURE...
  16. Oh yea, we all miss Jay!?!?!?!!!!!!?!?!? OMG OMG OMG where is his article?!?!!?!?!?!?? Aye aye aye.
  17. At the end of the day, the players execute. Or, the manager shouldn't allow them to execute poorly. In the end, they're both to blame. So you're both right. How hard was that?
  18. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 06:11 PM) How come the bottom of the page no longer shows who is viewing the thread? We turned it off when 400 people came out of the woodwork to find out about our new Left Fielder. Oops.
  19. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 03:10 PM) You know, I hear that I look older all the time, although it's usually when I haven't shaved and have stubble, beard or shadow, depending on how long it's been. But since I'm clean-shaven there, or just about, I don't see how you think I look older. I guess it's just facial features? The clothes? I rarely wear jeans, and hardly ever wear t-shirts or tank tops. I carry a briefcase instead of a backpack to school, and some kids call me Professor. Pure Comedy.
  20. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 04:26 PM) Not saying he's right, but it's worth asking; how exactly do you know it was an accident? Why would they bomb UN targets on purpose? Could it be that the Hezzies are running around under the UN moniker? Hmmm.
  21. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 11:55 PM) You know, it really isn't so bad. I greatly enjoy my time at the Chicago HS for Agricultural Sciences. So that was you in the pictures? You look older then (almost) 17. Uh huh... BUSTED!
  22. Wow. The parisan hacks are going to come out and talk about what a "terrible" job he's done... and "he needs to go" (thanks Dodd, you schmuck) - he's really done a stand up job, IMO. And it's good that someone else recognizes it.
  23. QUOTE(YASNY @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 10:29 AM) So this the type of team we got away from in '05? Of the 8 regular postion players, 7 of them were regulars last year. Anderson replaced Rowand in CF. Then the addition of Thome as DH to replace Everett or Thomas. Where is the big change over that mad us go from a scrappy small ball time to a bunch of slow thumpers? EXACTLY. I was thinking the same thing when reading this thread. This team is not that different then last year. BA instead of ARow, and Javy instead of El Duque. Now the bullpen is different, but that's not the issue right now. It's the one inning brainfarts by our (starting) pitching staff and the swing for the fences mentality at the plate instead of just trying to get on base. Those are mental brainfarts, something that this team right now can't seem to overcome.
  24. QUOTE(shawnhillegas @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 12:01 PM) maybe in the offseason, but why the hell would we be trading for prospects as we sprial downhill??!!!?!? Because we have six guys that are "capable" of htting the rotation. I would take this deal in a second, if it meant getting rid of Freddy and getting a prospect like Danks, and it would free up a spot for BMac (assuming he's not part of the deal to get Soriano).
  25. http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20060723/bs_nm/...xas_drilling_dc Yep - lots of drilling going on around here. There's about 4 derricks within 2 miles of me. Natural gas has actually gone down in price lately, compared to last summer's highs. When do the hurricanes get here again?
