  1. QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Mar 15, 2006 -> 07:37 PM) I'll be driving, so I won't have to panic for 3 hours without knowing what to do. Good luck to the rest of you coping with it. NEXT WEEK, not this week.
  2. QUOTE(YASNY @ Mar 15, 2006 -> 06:52 PM) Oh well. We missed connections last year and sounds like we'll miss again this year. As of now, though, there are still good seats available. I'm sure I can get there for at least one of them, but I'll have a one-month old at that point who will be demanding a lot of attention. But that could be a great opportunity for baby's first baseball game!!!
  3. QUOTE(YASNY @ Mar 15, 2006 -> 06:47 PM) But not so great for out of town fans that don't know when they can get to Chicago. BTW, working on scoring tickets to the Sox and Rangers in Arlington. These are damn good seats, so I'm waiting to see what game or games I can get, then I'll check into buying online for the other game or games. They are only here once this year - the second week of June from Monday through Thursday for a 4 game set. I didn't buy tickets for this yet, I should have, but at this point it's not going to be easy for me to break away.
  4. Everyone: We are going to schedule an outage for Wednesday, March 22 from 7:00 PM CST to probably about 10:00 PM CST - this could last longer if we have unexpected troubles. We are going to do some software upgrades to the host server that soxtalk is on. Please plan accordingly!! Kap
  5. QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Mar 15, 2006 -> 06:50 AM) I would hope that the Dems and GOP would be worrying about how to govern the country correctly. You know the saying - you can hope (wish) in one hand and crap in the other, and you know what you'll get for that. They don't care. They just want to either keep ® or gain power (D). Nothing else matters to these assmunches, and that's the problem with this country('s government).
  6. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Mar 15, 2006 -> 12:16 AM) Actually I big10talk was on my mind for a while (I always start with leagues/teams I like, makes it more fun for me). I like college sports and I have some ideas in my mind. The next release of sites will probably occur around May, but that all depends on how the new sites do. Already have gone down that road... but no one knows...
  7. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Mar 14, 2006 -> 01:48 PM) Almost alone even among the GOP, Frist goes so far as to refer to the NSA wiretaps as “a very good lawful constitutional program.” When did Billl Frist become a Constitutional scholar? Circle the wagons and protect the administration and the GOP power base at all costs, that's the only thing Frist is an expert on. He is completely lacking in moral fiber. Unlike some of the GOP "moderates" who at least claimed they were going to support a Congressional investigation before they crumbled under pressure from others in the part and thinly veiled threats from the White House. But that didn't mean that these Senators wouldn't have signed on to a censure resolution after a period of informed debate. And that informed debate is precisely the thing that Frist wanted to preempt by calling for a vote prematurely. Congress, particularly the Senate, is supposed to be a deliberative body that actually discusses the issues before bringing them to a vote. Alas, much in the manner the twisted GOP-worded version of the "Murtha resolution" was brought to a vote prematurely, Frist yesterday was making damn sure nobody had any time to consider it before being asked to vote. Who's the one pulling the political stunt again? Yea, because "your side" is ALWAYS right. Just once, I'd like to see a real debate of these issues, so that REAL details come out. Truth of the matter is BOTH sides have things to hide, so neither party will do it.
  8. the board's whacky. I can't post right. And dang it I had a good point. But nevermind.
  9. In that case, then, life imprisonment with no parole is just fine for me. But, if this were a guilt vs. innocence phase, you're damn right I'd be pissed off if this slime ass got off because lawyers screwed it up.
  10. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Mar 13, 2006 -> 09:33 PM) Will there be a TalkCubs.com because I don't know how I would react. If we do, that's a long way away.
  11. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 13, 2006 -> 03:32 PM) I'm glad I'm not that judge. Tough call to make. I generally tend to agree with judges that keep their courts in order, instead of allowing attornies to run rough-shod over legal protections for their convenience. So I can't blame her for being stern. I'll be curious to see how this turns out. This is a perfect example of why these people should be tried by military tribunals. Before I go on, refresh my memory - is Moose an American Citizen?
  12. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 13, 2006 -> 03:07 PM) It was back door in that they avoided the usual checks and processes for such deals. It was mentioned and cited earlier in this thread. And it seems clear to me that there were some under-the-table dealings on the side here, which we still don't know about. That's probably true.
  13. QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Mar 13, 2006 -> 02:28 AM) If we were so concerned with our relations to begin with, maybe we shouldnt have tried to back door the deal. It wasn't "backdoor" - it was announced months ago, but no one cared until someone touched the hot lightbulb and went, "oh s***, this is HOT!".
  14. QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Mar 13, 2006 -> 04:53 AM) Ok, I probably did take some... And I'm not blaming the U.S. I'm just saying it can do a better job if it's truly a problem. Since the government hasn't, maybe it isn't as bad as those who b**** and moan say it is? I really don't know... And to bring it all together...I don't mean silly laws that will arrest and jail doctors, social workers, school teachers and who knows who else if they assist illegal immigrants. I mean laws and programs that will deal with it properly, whether it be an efficient guest worker program or whatever. Just kicking them all out wouldn't be the answer either, both because it is somewhat inhumane and crippling to the economy... It's the second biggest problem this country faces behind terrorism. Period. And here's my GWB swipe of the day - he's an assmunch on this issue. TOTALLY clueless about how to handle it, despite dealing with it as a governor of Texas. As far as kicking them out because it would be "crippling to the economy", no it wouldn't.
  15. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Mar 12, 2006 -> 09:00 PM) Just so everyone knows, Jason primarily did the work to get this site going... And it works! Um no he didn't.
  16. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Mar 12, 2006 -> 02:49 PM) No, but a serious renewal of the national debate on the state of American health care and the lack of access of many people to it can adress this and countless other issues. There are so many elements of health care that need addressed, but a "national health care plan" is NOT the answer. I think that the laws that are passed by Congress regulating what private industry does without cutting off research and free-market is better.
  17. It's not about what these people say... it's the way they say them. In this case, he was very eloquent and thought out, well reasoned, and didn't have some political agenda to push. That's commendable.
  18. QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Mar 12, 2006 -> 02:56 AM) Not even basic human rights? Again, I don't think that a doctor who gives medical attention to an illegal person should have to be put in jail...Maybe I'm one of the few since everyone else seems to be greatly in favor of the law we're discussing. Then I have to pay for their illegal asses. And I don't like it. Again, it's not that I don't have compassion for some of these people, some of them are just trying to feed their families. And I also would welcome a work program. But for them to just cross illegally and funnel money back and then cry about not getting any rights under our constitution, is pure BS to me.
  19. QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Mar 11, 2006 -> 11:56 PM) Bulls*** excuse...next you're gonna tell me you don't jay-walk and never drank under-age... It may be illegal, but the vast majority aren't here to harm, just work and better themselves. If their were reasonable legal means to get here, then that's how it would work. Bottom line: there isn't. Twist the argument to what I've done. Guess what? If I break the law, I have to pay the consequences, unlike these people who want RIGHTS that they DO NOT HAVE. Their consequences are to get sent back to where they came from and nothing else. So, don't cry to me about these people's rights, because they don't have any in this country.
  20. QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Mar 11, 2006 -> 11:49 PM) It just amazes me how people are so intent on professing how great and caring human beings they are because they care about all sorts of world issues and what-not and donate to charities, yet if the person in need happens to be here illegally, they're basically f***in' scum... :headshake And it just amazes me people that condone illegal activities because they simply feel sorry for their plight. Look, COME HERE LEGALLY, and I'll help you all day. There's a lot of means of coming here LEGALLY. Otherwise, you're pretty much stealing.
  21. QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Mar 11, 2006 -> 04:10 PM) ..... I don't want them running my ports. They wouldn't have been. Why do people keep saying that? There's a difference between owning something and running something.
  22. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Mar 11, 2006 -> 02:19 PM) The UAE is really pissed off about this. They have already put off voting on a free trade agreement, and they are making noises about taking their investments somewhere else. I've alluded to this before - I've had some (slight) business dealings with people in the UAE... and this is something that is NOT good. People have taken this and just absolutely ran whacky with it. Flaxx has propagated what the problem really is. Look, it doesn't matter WHO OWNS the port, security is OUR problem. WE are in charge of how the ports are ran, no matter WHO OWNS them. But gee, somehow all that gets overlooked. Why? Because this was blatent racism by this country. It was Islamaphobia. And it's f***ING SICK. I understand the fact that UAE has some serious issues - ie they DO have terrorist connections, they DO NOT recognize Israel, they are participating in a ban of business with Israel, etc. etc. etc. and yes this is problematic. Something needed to be done, however, you don't want to cut your nose off to spite itself, and we just did that. Sometime, if anyone cares, I can share my experience in dealing with Dubai business folks. It was pretty interesting the exchanges.
  23. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Mar 10, 2006 -> 11:35 PM) I appreciate what you are saying, nobody in the beltway is anything close to squeaky clean. But in this case I don't particularly care that it is the Abramoff tie that is bringing her down, I just care that she will be gone soon. I can live with that.
  24. QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Mar 11, 2006 -> 01:14 AM) It's only a bad idea if we don't kick all the other foreign interests out of controlling our exit and entry points to this country. That was NOT what this was about.
