QUOTE(ChiSoxyGirl @ Sep 13, 2005 -> 12:32 AM) No relatives?!?!?!?!?! Hell yes! Sign me up! EDIT: In reality, the free ticket will be used to go to another wedding in my friend's never ending quest to remind me of my singleness. . . At least you get to have more fun, er something.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Sep 12, 2005 -> 11:14 PM) Well I think I am the one person that classifies as immune from suspensions and even I've been suspended (of course I suspended myself a few times and than there was that nasty coup in which Heads or 2k banned me). The only time you should be suspended is when you Gage the board and someone else has to clean up your manure. LMAO.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Sep 12, 2005 -> 10:19 PM) If you have any computer experience at all, to the point that you know what you're doing without a nursemaid, there's no need for AOL. AOL I think should be best viewed quite literally as internet for people who need internet but don't know how to use it. Also...I could be wrong on this, but I don't think AOL provides their own direct access broadband...like usually you need to pay someone else for broadband, and then you're also paying AOL for access to their content. A few of their things are useful, like the simple scale of the community if you like their chat rooms, but aside from that, there's no reason to spend the extra money on AOL. AOL is very expensive for what it is, which is garbage, IMO.

This thread has allowed me to waste a lot of time. Pac-man and DK... woooo hooooo!

As a person who has worked a lot with "administration" stuff, stay away from AOL. I can list laundry baskets full as to why, but AOL is not my cup of tea. (And, FYI, I will soon be working for Time Warner, and I would STILL tell people to stay away from AOL.)

I think I've shared this before, but I worked for an airline at that point in time. I just pulled into the parking lot when I heard about the first plane hitting over the radio. Didn't think much about it, went in and started working... then the second plane hit, and I went over to our control room, the next thing I saw was our FAA contact running into the room and telling us to "get our f***ing planes on the ground, and I don't give a s*** where they land." I was dumbfounded... for about the next hour it was absolute chaos, pilot's family members were calling asking us where their families were, etc. Then, outside our hanger at Dallas/Fort Worth, all the planes were just landing and parking all over the place, no gates were available, people were getting off the planes and being bussed to the terminals and told to leave the airport. During this point in time, I'm watching the screen of where all the planes were in the country... all whittle down from 6000 planes in the air, to 2000 in about 30 minutes to less then 100 in an hour... and at that time the commercial software showed where Air Force One was... we watched the plane fly around all over the place, and about that time on the news all the media people were speculating, and we knew EXACTLY where they were. As I walked from our control room back to my office, the silence at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport was deafning. It was one of the most surreal moments of my life - as I worked at one of the world's largest airports - and it was TOTALLY silent. It was eerie.

s***. I really wanted to get in on this, but I've been a weeeeeeeee bit busy.

QUOTE(mmmmmbeeer @ Sep 12, 2005 -> 01:10 AM) We played phenomonal ball in the first half, beating good teams and weak teams. This second half the team looks tired and has battled some injuries, not to mention the mental letdown that comes with a 15.5 game lead. The ONLY reason our decline has been as noticeable as it has is because CLE is playing just f***ing ridiculous baseball since they were swept by the Sox in July. That I agree with. Also, I started this thread, because usually I'm the one that is doing the "peptalk" about how it's going to be ok. Bottom line, they're TIRED. You can see it. I hope that when the air gets a little colder, they wake up.

Usually I'm pretty positive about this season, but this weekend told me that we don't belong. We just don't. I don't know where our guts, and clawing, and swagger went, but I didn't see it all weekend. Barring a serious attitude adjustment, I don't see us getting very far now. This is definitely reminding me of 2000 all over again.

QUOTE(The Critic @ Sep 10, 2005 -> 07:54 PM) I heard Queen Lite doing "Keep Yourself Alive" and I thought Paul Rodgers was awful. He's a good singer, but I don't think his voice is suited for Queen songs. I was curious how that would sound myself. I haven't heard anything yet. Freddy Mercury he ain't.

QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Sep 9, 2005 -> 10:30 PM) The pussification of posting really svcks. But I realize it's a neccessity. The new policy pretty much means that before you post look it over. If the style is anything BUT respectful or cordial of another member of SOXTALK or the WHITE SOX then edit it until it is. Uggh. I have a request. Can we create a RIVALS RANT section? A place where we can unleash our male angst on RIVAL teams. A place where we can bash our rivals endlessly. I realize there might be members from other teams here but can't we consider them trolls? Do we have to be respectful & cordial to trolls as well? So basically you admit that you want nothing more then being an asshole to people? That's pretty much what this post says. You can't respect people? You want to "unleash" on them? This pretty much tells all of us in this community that you have no intention of wanting to debate, you just want to "unleash" on them. Furthermore, it shows you have no respect for your fellow man, and then you turn around and tell us we're to have compassion and evengelicalize about Jesus Christ. People like you give Christianity a bad name, IN MY OPINION, and that is not a "personal attack". I'm going strictly on the context of this post, and other posts you have made in the last three days. And now, I can't wait for the "this post MAY be construed as a personal attack by the mods" BS that always follows when someone disagrees with you. That's your new mantra.

QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Sep 10, 2005 -> 01:41 PM) Couldn't put together the scratch for Stones this tour, but I'm going to saa Sir Paul next week. Flaxx, you'll have to give us a review and a what to expect kind of thing. I've got my tickets sitting right here for November when he's in Dallas.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Sep 9, 2005 -> 09:48 PM) Could you specify which "Things" you're talking about? I can think of only a couple really...the bombing in Lebanon, which was directed at U.S. troops intervening in a civil war overseas, dozens of things directed at Israel, a few things organized by Libya, and the dealings from Iran, but nothing that I'd call a completely blatant attack on us by Islamists. You've hit the high ones... no, the efforts were not as clear, but they were directed at our "way of life".

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Sep 9, 2005 -> 09:10 PM) I'm not trying to say that they don't have a problem with our way of life...but what I am saying is that when it comes to actually motivating people to strap bombs to their chests, the thing that does it is the occupation. Bin Laden can curse the infidels all he wants...but without the added layer of people angry about occcupation...he gets no where. That's why he spends so much effort focusing on it. True. But there were things that happened pre-gulf war I that tells me it doesn't matter - they have, however, used this to focus their efforts more.

QUOTE(winodj @ Sep 9, 2005 -> 08:26 PM) The concept of the Trinity didn't make its first appearance in the bible until the fifth century. The bible is CONSTANTLY being changed - sometimes in small, seemingly inconsequential ways today that turn out to be huge years and years from now. I'll have to research that but I was thinking that the Holy Spirit was discussed in first Century writings... but your point is also true. Just look at the canonization of the bible itself... that's a huge change.
-
Balta, I don't have time to read this stuff right now... but thanks for the links. I'll read it when I have some more time. I still somewhat stand by the notion that our way of life is their problem with us, but I certainly agree our 'occupation' of their lands is also high on the list.

Juggs, how come you have "blanks" in all your quotes of other posts?

QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Sep 9, 2005 -> 07:14 PM) From an evangelical perspective the KJV is the most complete non-tainted widely available version. Juggs, that is YOUR OPINION. It is NOT fact. KJV... who translated it and why? After you answer yourself that question, you'll surely see that the translation was one of the most "political" in history. Really, even the "greek version" was politically motivated, as the history of that time says that as the Romans adopted greek as their language that they wanted to spread over the land, the Hebrew text was translated so that everyone could be in "greekspeak". Since the Greek text was so close to the time period that the original Hebrew was written, the likelyhood of translation errors were a lot less, meaning they translated the original source, and there was less room for error there. On the subject of evengelical Christianity, "go forth into the world and spread the word" is indeed one of the great commandments we are instructed to do. But I will offer there are many ways to "evangelicalize". Shoving Jesus and God down someone's throat is not evengelical at all. In fact, it's nauseating.

QUOTE(ChiSoxyGirl @ Sep 9, 2005 -> 03:04 PM) Yep, yep. Although, I would like to take this moment to say. . . Biblical translations have ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS been manipulated to reflect current religious tone and opinion. (I think in this respect the Muslims may be onto something: allowing the Koran to be read only in its native Arabic.) So, although the Bible may be divinely inspired (not saying either way on that) the translation of the Bible is, shall we say, guided by the hand of men. From the stupid taking of Noah's rejection of his son Ham (although, hmmmm, maybe that's why Jews can't eat pork. . .) to be a rejection of people of color and a rationalization for doing so (still scrathing my head at that one) to flat out mistranslations there are some problems with a lot of translations. So, sadly, I don't speak Hebrew or Greek, but I always, on those really tricky passages check out a bible or Greek/Hebrew dictionary to make sure I'm getting the real Bible's view--not some monk or translator. I can think of some examples, but without my trusty NRSV Oxford Bible, I think I'll refrain. ABSOLUTELY correct. Great post.

QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Sep 9, 2005 -> 02:32 PM) Pork sucks. Sign the bills to fund that NEEDS funding, and get your f***ing fingers out of every single money pie that comes down the pike. If they did that, it would shut the government down. That's sad, isn't it?

QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Sep 9, 2005 -> 06:31 AM) How much did 9/11 cost us? I heard an estimate of over a trillion lost in GDP. How much did Afghan & Iraq cost us? It's going to reach $400B soon. Add in natural disaster costs & were over $1.5 trillion dollars. I'm all for spreading freedom & democracy around the world but this spending has got to stop. Our economy is crap. We can't afford to play savior to the world when we are ailing ourselves. I feel sorry for Powell. I really do. But I can imagine a much worse world if we had done nothing. When he made that statement I said to myself $250B. I was against it. Today I'm indifferent. The Madrid & UK bombings lead me to beleive that doing nothing would have brought about another attack. Terrorists have no respect for the lives & property of Americans. They delight in our destruction. They have choosen to wage a cultural war against us. Because our culture is immoral in their minds they see us as evil. We are not willing to change our culture so there is no reason to believe a peaceful solution can be found. OF COURSE we are not going to change our lifestyle. Mainly, the capitalistic lifestyle is what they hate, and why should we change that? The part of our lifestyle that we should change a little is the social aspect, but that's my opinion, and frankly it will not happen, because "we're free" and therefore, we should be able to do whatever we want with no reprocussions. We will pay for that sentiment someday, but it shouldn't be by those wacky terrorists, who are they to judge?

QUOTE(Goldmember @ Sep 9, 2005 -> 12:28 PM) yeah they're awesome... an update of the auction--they raised $311,975 (206,925 from bids, Colts owner Jim Irsay matched total up to 100,000 & 5,050 from cash donations). they were joking today about the amount of basketballs bobby knight had to sign. i guess they talked to the general yesterday and he said he'd sign every autographed b-ball they can auction off and they wound up getting $20,450 from that alone... AWESOME! GO BOB AND TOM!
