  1. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Sep 7, 2005 -> 08:24 PM) OOps Aren't you priveledged? Welcome to the loser's club.
  2. QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Sep 7, 2005 -> 08:22 PM) Unless someone knows everything we are all ignorant of somethings. I equally noted the hypocrisy in the edit. Mine is completely wiped out (censorship) & the other was selectively modified. :rolly Dude, you're pissing up the wrong tree. DON'T CALL PEOPLE IGNORANT FOR WHAT YOU MIGHT ALREADY KNOW. It's that simple.
  3. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Sep 7, 2005 -> 05:12 PM) That's what I'm hoping for...it really wouldn't take a huge salary increase to keep this team together aside from signing Garland to a 3 year deal for what he's really worth...Konerko's salary will probably go up by $3 million, Everett's will go up by $1 million, AJ's will go up by a few million, Thomas's will go down by at most $5 million...we may very well clear some salary room from our starting rotation by moving the kid into it...so there needs to be a roughly $5-10 million increase in salary to hold everything together if Frank does leave, according to my best guesses. And I would certainly think that payroll would increase by $5 to $10 million next year overall. We still need a solid bat, though.
  4. I think when you look at the overall picture of the team, guys like Rowand and Kong are actually pretty important pieces. Rowand is not the best CF'er in the league, but he's probably top 5 when you look at the total pacakge. Kong is a big bat in the lineup - and like someone else mentioned, when he doesn't look to pull every pitch thrown to him, he's a pretty good hitter. If someone can make him to not want to pull everything during at least a month of every season, he'd hit .315.
  5. Oh, and Milkman, stay out of this thread. BECAUSE HE STILL SUCKS.
  6. I will admit that I still am ready to get rid of Konerko and give someone else another chance at 1B for the money he's going to want. But I will say this. Paulie, who has raised his season average back to .280, deserves a shout out. He has been phenominal the last month or so. To be at .220 in July and get back to .280 by this point in the season is a great, great thing. We need him to continue this well in to October. If he does, this team becomes dangerous. GOOD JOB PAULIE.
  7. QUOTE(Capn12 @ Sep 7, 2005 -> 11:01 AM) sar·casm ( P ) Pronunciation Key (särkzm) n. A cutting, often ironic remark intended to wound. A form of wit that is marked by the use of sarcastic language and is intended to make its victim the butt of contempt or ridicule. The use of sarcasm. See Synonyms at wit1. Um, ok? I would rather eat some chalk then say I didn't catch that. Maybe being so old has made me lose my touch of reality, and if someone younger read that, and got the soxtalk experience out of the way, it would be more worth it. (Read my original post in this thread, and this makes more sense)
  8. QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 7, 2005 -> 03:28 AM) I'm still pissed we got rid of Shingo for Jenks. No way Shingo would have allowed 3 runs at Boston yesterday. Um, ok? You have to give Jenks his chances. He has an electric arm, and a nasty curve to go with it. I'd much rather see him in a 5-0 game and a chance to learn from his mistakes against the best hitting team in MLB - AND still come out with a W then have Shingo go in there and give up the same amount of runs and not be here next year.
  9. QUOTE(bmags @ Sep 7, 2005 -> 04:55 AM) If we don't call for action, it may not change...i see no problem with the fury of complaints, if this fury was all placed for terry schiavo, they took notice, when its to question the federal procedures for major catastrophes , we should be quiet? Give me a break. There's a difference between legitamate questioning and wanting things to be better, and then there's politicking every single f***ing move someone makes, just to make each other look bad. Unfortunately, we are trained in this country to look for the worst and skip the best. It's DISGUSTING.

    Allergies

    QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Sep 6, 2005 -> 05:30 PM) alert ALLERGY SUFFERERS!!! Don't move to Austin. Allergy capital of the country. My poor fiancee is in her lull for the year...two weeks between the summer allergies and ragweed. There is no freeze (usually) here so it just keeps coming and coming. And now, I have Cedar fever from the juniper spores. FANTASTIC. Although that doesn't happen until December. No kidding. Dallas is horrible for allergies, too. I am on Zyrtec permanently now. If I don't take it, I get terrible sinus headaches.

    Gilligan's dead

    Bob Denver, who played Gilligan on Gilligan's Island, has died. RIP!
  12. If the troops are shot at, they are given permission to shoot back. But of course, that gets twisted to "they can shoot our ass".
  13. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Sep 5, 2005 -> 03:51 PM) When you saw it...you just knew it was a matter of time. It's taken barely a week for a prominent member of the Christian right to start blaming gay marriage for the Hurricane. Rick Scarborough of Vision America and the Judeo-Christian Council for Constitutional Restoration...a man who in late October will be running a major conference designed to "counter the war on faith" (attendees expected include: 2008 presidential candidate Senator Sam Brownback, Alan Keyes, Gary Bauer and Phyllis Schlafly)...had some fun things to say about the storm. Specifically...he blamed it on the gay marriage bill before the state government in California...bestiality in Washington state, and Israel's evacuation of settlements in Gaza. Link here. These people sure as hell don't represent most people's views.
  14. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Sep 5, 2005 -> 06:03 PM) Kap -- hockey training camp starts what, this Saturday, next Saturday? I'm pumped! A week from today - Sept. 12.
  15. QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 5, 2005 -> 05:32 PM) EXCELLENT! Can I quote you over and over on that?
  16. This is a great at bat for Widger. Yea, he got out but what a good at bad.
  17. QUOTE(KipWellsFan @ Sep 4, 2005 -> 10:40 PM) Ants could kick our ass. That's all I had to read, right there. Sums it up pretty good.
  18. QUOTE(KipWellsFan @ Sep 4, 2005 -> 10:03 PM) Drinking is fung, Fung is drinking
  19. damn it's the fourth inning where is everyone?
  20. Look, I'm not saying that ya'll haven't done anything, but this political hackery and pointing fingers after meeting these people in the last two days, WHO f***ING CARES. It accomplishes nothing, and there are way too many of you eager to do it on here. STFU. That's about all I have to say about it. And yes, I was guilty of it, but that was before yesterday and today. Spend an hour with these people, and you discover nothing else matters.
  21. You know what? This thread is bulls***. BULLs***. Instead of bantering back and forth about f***ing politics, what are WE going to do about it? I'll share what me and my family have chosen to do about it in the upcoming days, if we're able to help out in the ways that I think we can. These people are in my city. And we are doing our part to help them out, screw the politics, the backgrounds, the ANYTHING of these people. They just need our help. I feel like locking this thread and shoving it so far up people's asses here that this will never see the light of day again. This thread identifies EXACTLY what the f*** is wrong with our country today. And I'm ashamed to have taken part in it after seeing some of these people today. WHO f***ING CARES what these talking heads are doing, it's what WE do about it!!!!
  22. QUOTE(KipWellsFan @ Sep 4, 2005 -> 04:48 AM) Being a complete novice about the US Supreme court, does that mean another person will have to be nominated for a supreme court spot and will one of the current members be bumped up to the chief position? That is the most likely scenario.
