  1. QUOTE(winodj @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 11:16 AM) If you think pulling out of Gaza is appeasement, you haven't figured out what Israel is actually doing. That is true. Isreal is doing some pretty interesting things. Like really doubling up their efforts to beef up the West Bank - which is more strategic then Gaza ever thought of being in terms of defending Jerusalem. And some other things.
  2. QUOTE(YASNY @ Aug 27, 2005 -> 08:54 AM) Chisoxfn's last girlfriend: C'mon babe, we've got about 3 hours. He's watching the White Sox again. Chisoxfn: (2hrs 20 mins later) Ah Ha! Caught ya in the act! Girlfriend: What happened? I thought the Sox were playing. Chisoxfn: Buehrle pitched tonight. Good one YAS.
  3. Ya'll kill me. SF1, have a good day. I know we give you a lot of crap, but you seem like you're a good dude. Keep your head up. Kap
  4. QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Aug 26, 2005 -> 06:59 PM) Not bad...wasn't her that wrote it though... And you know this how?
  5. QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Aug 26, 2005 -> 05:39 PM) "We no longer care about people who doubt us," Konerko said. "We haven't all year. You're either with us or you're not. There's people jumping on and off the bandwagon, but from now on when you're off, there's no getting back on." I'm on Paulie, I'm on! Promise! Man, I love seeing this guy get fired up. He's really become quite a leader on the team. Nice to see. He also gave mad props to Blum for yesterday's win, which is very nice. And Jeremey Roenick got f'in LAMBLASTED for saying the same thing, and now Paulie's a hero?
  6. This is all well and good, but ya'll must remember that the hardware/server isn't the issue, it's the programming of invision in addition to the database software that's causing some of the issues. Having said the above, Jason and some others here have put a lot of cash into this thing. I don't mean to speak for him but I'm sure he will take this and reinvest as best as he can. It's not like he's trying to profit from this, just cover the upkeep.
  7. And here I thought that all the kids peed in the ocean at once on that day. What was I thinking?
  8. QUOTE(marsh @ Aug 26, 2005 -> 03:27 PM) Think of how dumb the average person is. Half the people in the world are dumber than that person. Now THAT was insight. Riveting, direct, to the point. ZING.
  9. QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Aug 26, 2005 -> 03:17 PM) I've been preaching the gospel of energy conservation for well over 15 yrs now but no one listens. I believe it was 1988 when the report first appeared. By 2010 the world's demand for oil would exceed it's supply & the supply would continue to shrink each yr thereafter as demand grows. But no one listened. Including friends of mine who claim they are environmentalists yet have $200/mo electric bills & at least one gas guzzling SUV. I've been preaching the gospel of America-first since the late 80's but no one listened then either. Now I read a report that Disney has hired an independant auditor to review their shops in China. In that same report I learned that minimum wage there is equivalent to about 33 cents/hr or roughly 1/17th that of America. Yet no one seems to listen to that either. America is in for a rude-awakening with high inflation & high unemployment about to cave in our little fantasyworld before the end of the next decade. Maybe then they'll listen. Now there's a post I can agree with, Juggs. /faints Seriously, it's coming, and rapidly, now.
  10. QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Aug 26, 2005 -> 03:32 PM) There is only one solution: ration consumption. It's pretty easy to implement as well. Most of the pumps today are software driven where the POS transactions are processed by central locations. I know because I wrote the initial software. You can put in a step size graduated tax system. First $20 at the pump = x% tax $20-$30 at the pump = tack on a y% tax $30-$40 at the pump = tack on a z% tax and so on. The same can be applied to energy bills. The more you consume in any one month the more you will pay in taxes. The tax money is then turned into subsidies for alternative energy sources. It will never happen though. The lobbyists from the automakers, oil companies, & energy companies are probably the most powerful in Washington. Wow. Just wow. I"ll leave this alone.
  11. There are other applications that this will work on (invision). But mySQL is the most popular, and with the amount of traffic that this site generates, it would take a full version of something a lot more powerful then we have, which is not cheap, depending on which way we go. The server is ran on unix, there's no way in hell that I'm going windows.
  12. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 26, 2005 -> 12:47 AM) It was a matter of time before Crede got injured on a HBP. He's been slow reacting on inside pitches all season, and there were quite a few times it looked like he barely avoided serious injury. Just the inside pitches? /it was there for the taking
  13. Wait, Crede has a broken finger? Where did I miss that in this thread?
  14. QUOTE(Steff @ Aug 26, 2005 -> 12:11 AM) Let me see if we can visit the agent there and make it a "business trip". I see those trucks all around down here. If ya do, yell at me, and I'll figure out a way to go somehow.
  15. QUOTE(quickman @ Aug 26, 2005 -> 12:06 AM) sorry to dissapoint, Crede Blows, and I hate him. I hope he is down forever.
  16. QUOTE(Steff @ Aug 25, 2005 -> 11:56 PM) Ohhh.. if I can swing it you know I'll be there. Let me consult with the boss... who - evidentally drank way too much while golfing at Medinah CC today - just called to tell me "Ooo honey. I do love this course" (he plays there 3 or 4 times a year) and suggests we get a membership there. He couldn't understand why I couldn't stop laughing. Seriously? That would be a blast if ya'll can come down! Except I can't go Monday. Tuesday. Yay Tuesday.
  17. People, this was a playoff series atmosphere. I know we've struggled as of late, but when we were all sitting looking at the schedule in March and April, we knew that this would be the toughest part of the season. You cannot possibly call yourself a baseball fan if you didn't seriously enjoy this series. Game one was a classic, even though we came up short. Game two we jumped out and hung on, and MB figured out some things, which is awesome to see. And today, it was a grind-it-out win that plays huge in terms of confidence as we look toward October. Props to the guys. Let's go out west and kick some Seattle tail!
  18. QUOTE(ceffa2000 @ Aug 25, 2005 -> 11:17 PM) Thats why I'm so proud of the team today. The way they battled right back in the 10th after getting screwed in the ninth shows that there is still some of the fire in there. As crazy as it seems, if we do well in Seattle, Konerko is going to be proven right. Yes indeed. (another thread comes to mind)
  19. QUOTE(Steff @ Aug 25, 2005 -> 09:56 PM) Sigh.... go ahead. I'll keep an eye out for the bill. :rolly And what a large bill it will be. So when you coming to watch the Sox next week? Monday? There's gonna be lots of beer in the fridge.
  20. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Aug 25, 2005 -> 09:45 PM) But its Free!!!! So it must be good. Well at the rate that some of these database vendors are pricing their products. I can stand with a few "too many connection" messages. Sorry - did you even know what I meant about the server load? Anything less then 3.00 is meaning the server is functioning well. It's usally anywhere between 0.50 and 0.75 when we have 250 people on here. It's the database that's the problem, pure and simple. I can probably shut the site down this weekend and rebuild the database, that might help some.
  21. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Aug 25, 2005 -> 09:31 PM) You couldn't just say "posters"? Some take offense to that. Not me, but some do. Dude, I was hitting refresh like a man possessed too. That's what happens. If you hit refresh, and then you hit refresh AGAIN while that command was being processed against the database, your first refresh hangs the software up. That's what makes it bog down and get too many connection errors. Does that explain it a little better? Unless we go to a full version of SQL, ya'll are going to have to deal with it, because we don't exactly have $5K sitting around to do that.
  22. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Aug 25, 2005 -> 09:34 PM) I have two highly hit servers on the net for work that have the same issue. They have plenty I mean plenty of everything. Its the refresh issue and connections getting hung up. You can throw lots of hardware at it, for a spike that happens during a game once in a great while or when the sox lose a few and everyone is cranky. The load on the server is 0.50 during the spikes. The processor(S) and the bandwidth is fine. MySQL is a piece of crap. That's all.
  23. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Aug 25, 2005 -> 09:23 PM) max_connections=eleventy billion Web sites like this that use Mysql have a hard time hanging up connections. You could have some serious hardware and still have problems during a spike. Its hard for them to plan the sites server size based on a few times a year. Some maintenance might clean some of it up, but unless they have been seeing issues for a while it could be just isolated to all of the traffic lately due to the sox slumping and the close games. When you people hit refresh 15 bazillion times to find out what happens in a game thread, you get too many connections. Trust me, the server's fine. Waaaay fine. It's the database and the response time from it.
  24. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Aug 25, 2005 -> 07:33 PM) I hope Marte breaks his damn arm or something....uhh. STOP IT. There's no need for that here, AT ALL. Pissed off or not, you don't need to say stuff like that.
  25. Everyone quit b****ing and say what happened, please.
