  1. QUOTE(ChiSoxyGirl @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 06:29 PM) The posters are discrediting the site by making it unreadable, crude, crass and more about insulting the players for their mistakes than it actually being about the Sox. I, personally, have enjoyed Pale Hose talk a LOT more since the rules were put into effect. And I don't think any outside force is putting pressure on this site. It's more an issue of the people who run the site wanting it to be a respectful and thoughtful place to talk the about the Sox. Soxy, GMTA.
  2. I'll answer for him. NO. We took it upon ourselves to clean this stuff up. Is it NECESSARY on this site to defile and degrade people? NO! Why is this such a hard concept - to respect people?
  3. QUOTE(Middle Buffalo @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 06:18 PM) Piggybacking here (need a smiley for that). Does this policy apply to topics outside of baseball. For instance, a few weeks back, there was a Natalie Holloway thread where one poster repeatedly said that she was a slut and got what she deserved, etc. Is this crossing the line? I thought it was idiotic, but I didn't attack the poster personally, I just said I disagreed with his ideas. Oh, and I mentioned that I hoped that he never had kids. ( I think it's going to be very hard to be fair and consistent with the new policy. I don't believe I've ever crossed the line and attacked another poster, and I agree that it should not be tolerated, but I kind of think players and others in the media are fair game. Do I like to see posters here attacking players? No. However, if I see that, I just ignore it. I don't see why that would be censored. No, that's someone's opinion about a newsworthy event. Sexual innuendo about Timo and Ozzie isn't, and crosses the line. Look, it's common sense. Most of you know what's right and not right, so use a little common sense and there will be no problems.
  4. BAJ! Hell Yea! Kick some butt out there.
  5. QUOTE(SpringfieldFan @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 05:59 PM) Love the new policy, but have a couple of questions: 1)We can't personally attack players. Sorry if this sounds smart-ass but does this apply just to White Sox players or all MLB players (i.e. Sosa, Torii, Bonds...)? 2)Wouldn't it be wise to remove the "I'm with stupid" emoticon from the smiley's list? Using it can't lead to anything good... SFF Personally, I think it should apply to all players, but that's me. Good question, though. We'll discuss it. But please remember that the "intent" is to keep things from being degrading or vulgar, not necessarily, "Torii Hunter sucks". So, IMO, the vulgarity should cover everyone.
  6. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 05:52 PM) Whoa, we can't give the players nicknames like Pop Up Paulie? That goes a little too far, doesn't it? Should the poster credepopsup have to change his name? Actually, Milkman, I brought that up for discussion. I think the consensus is you're right on that issue. We just need to be careful... Thanks for the comment, though.
  7. Holy crap... the more I see of this... this is just absolutely devastating...
  8. QUOTE(marsh @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 04:37 PM) I hope the "respectability" and "credibility" of the new WSI junior is worth it. I won't debate why WSI does what they do, but if this were the case, this thread would have been closed long ago. Think about it. We don't want to keep seeing the players bashed. They might suck, and we can talk about how they suck, but to degrade and defile is crossing the line. PM us if you have that much of a problem.
  9. Now that I'm the only one in this thread, when we start debating TOWARD ONE ANOTHER as opposed to debating the point, you're skating on thin ice. This is a perfect example. This is the kind of nonsense that needs to stop. I appreciate everyone having to defend themselves and make sure that the entire world gets the point that was trying to be made, but this is a perfect example of when things go too far. Let's get back to the topic of Gload being on this team in 3 days, shall we? Kap
  10. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 03:13 PM) Yep, I get it. That shouldn't be a hard transition for me, since I can't even remembre the last Timo/Ozzie joke I made. So, I can't say that Timo Perez should die of gonorrhea and rot in hell? Um, no.
  11. QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 03:01 PM) Money talks, and you know what walks. How many players (Randy Johnson, Mike Mussina come to mind) said they would never play for New York, and look what happens. They bend over and take it in the cash. PK is probably gone. The Dodgers are another possibility. If they get a big bat that also can hit for average (yes, I'm dreaming), I'm all for Paul KKKKKKKKKKKKKonerko being gone.
  12. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 02:59 PM) That part made him sound like a superhero. Honestly, I like the idea of punishing personal attacks, but I'm not as happy with the ban on attacking players (and I don't mean Lique-style). I'm almost afraid to say that a player sucks when, in fact, that player does suck. I don't think that's quite as bad as Timo's blowing Ozzie, and that sort of junk. Or, so and so sucks AT THE PLATE, or so and so sucks IN THE FIELD (hello, Iguchi). That becomes a discussion on how they're playing as opposed to the person. Make sense?
  13. QUOTE(Steff @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 02:45 PM) Wow.. I hope that's not their attitude. To rephrase, they are playing for next year, not this year.
  14. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 02:39 PM) Since this was such a big series for the Rangers, I'm sure they used their "secret weapon". A meaningless late August game against the White Sox sure would be worth giving away any advantage they could give themselves in actual big games vs teams in the AL West. All their games are meaningless. They're out of it, and they know it.
  15. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 02:37 PM) The ball jumps out of the park in Arlington, especially with how hot it is. Also, it's not like the other parks in the AL West are hitter friendly. A lot of times, it's just the mindset of the players. Colorado is a perfect example of how a player can get so out of whack in their mentality between home and away. Yea, the ball jumps here. There's no doubt about that. The thing about MB from what I saw on the highlights (I was in class) was that he was getting hit on pitches that were in the "right spot"... normally, when a pitcher is biting on the corners, they don't get hit that hard. And they were tagging the ball no matter where he pitched it.
  16. QUOTE(Colorado Sox Fan @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 02:33 PM) Yes. And the Mariners on Sunday were cheating real bad. And the Yankees a couple of games, too--in our own park, no less. They snuck into US Cellular and cheated...They found out where to go from the Twins, who cheated all three games at US Cellular. And that homer that Freddy gave up in the Dome? Yup. The Twins were tipped off. Didn't you see the guy with the big sign that said: "Here comes a cookie!"? I'm going to repeat what I just said in an earlier post. The Rangers are WAAAAAAY different in their approach when they hit on the road and when they hit at home. It does raise an interesting question. That's it.
  17. I like Buck Showalter's comments. (paraphrasing) We do have the grassy knoll out there in Center Field. Personally, I think that was a shot that if they are, they won't be the next three games. And if they're not, he sure thinks it's interesting how they can bat .285 at home and .259 on the road.
  18. I would imagine that Jon had a choice...
  19. QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 02:06 PM) your point would be valid if BMac ever had good numbers in the minors. The only time he has ever been good is the three week stretch in spring training. Ummm... have you sen his #'s in the past month? Just wondering.
  20. QUOTE(mreye @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 01:31 PM) Patiently waiting for PM... LOL. See, you're not important. The only reason you think you are is because you signed up the same day as southsider.

    Unbelievable

QUOTE(jasonxctf @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 05:22 PM) http://www.csmonitor.com/2005/0829/p15s01-cogn.html Different era, different methods, different technology, which costs money. Send all the troops over to fight the war the way wars used to be fought and it wouldn't cost nearly as much. But then you'd have a ton more troops killed. I'd rather spend the money, frankly.
  22. QUOTE(JimH @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 02:39 AM) Wow, does this poster sound like Brando or what? Or what. I think.
  23. Actually this game thread wasn't that bad. We were getting our butt kicked, so... there was reason to debate as opposed to the ass-kicking. It didn't get too personal, and I thank you all.
  24. QUOTE(jphat007 @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 02:21 AM) Yes it is. A guy with that kind of record is getting great offense. That's the reason he is winning. LOL. I can't blieve you're arguing that you'd rather have a pitcher who gives up more runs. Who would you rather start game seven of the World Series? MB or JS? My money's on JS, no offense. I can't put it a better way.
  25. QUOTE(jphat007 @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 02:07 AM) LOL. Yah, lets split up the halves, like that means anything. No reason in the year as a whole when looking a thte best pitcher. There is no argument about who has played better in the second half. I don't care about that. Buerhle has been better overall though. The most important stat for a pitcher is how many runs he gives up. Not how he does it, and Mark has been better in that this year. I think that you're right over all the year, but I do think most people's point is RIGHT NOW he's struggling.
