Early Trade Speculation
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ May 10, 2016 -> 05:16 PM) That's not a total Kenny deal, that is a misconception. KW never gave away many pieces that were highly regarded like that, more often than not he traded prospects that just disappeared into other organizations The only guy that he traded that ended up really good was Gio, and he used Gio as a trade chip twice and got some good players back. He got A good player back for Gio: Thome. But that also involved Rowand and pushing out Frank Thomas. Prospects are currency, and while the prospects didn't turn out so hot (although some are producing now), the returns Williams received didn't do a thing either. 2 playoffs in 12/13 seasons. The Sox can do better than the Lose-Lose approach under Williams.

Early Trade Speculation
QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ May 10, 2016 -> 05:35 PM) Adams, Danish, Hawkins, and Engel for Markakis, Teheran, and $5 million. Which team would say no to that deal? You're essentially trading those 4 for Tehran, a mid rotation guy. Pricey. I wouldn't mind having Markakis (although before Avi's started hitting I was more interested), but a reason is that he should come cheap - he really has no trade value. See Rios c. 2012 who had a high salary and a OPS in excess of .700 and, rightfully, zero trade value.

The Rollins Conundrum
No reason to get rid of him, but his professional veteran status isn't a good reason to keep him. We have others in that category. He's handling the position. Saladino and/or Sanchez should start more than they do, however,

Austin Jackson
QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ May 9, 2016 -> 08:16 AM) There's been a lot of talk about how valuable Jackson has been to the Sox. Not only does he provide outstanding defense in center field, having him on the team has allowed Eaton to move to and thrive in right field. He doesn't have a great bat, but to me his defense more than makes up for that. So, what are the chances the Sox try to sign him to an extension? And if the Sox are interested in doing so, is he interested in staying with the Sox? I know it's early, but it would be hard to imagine taking a step backward next year in the outfield. His defense has been great and these players obviously have meshed well as a team, but as an individual player, he's hitting a .622 OPS. We can find a defensive outfielder. Root for Jacob May to have a good year.

Early Trade Speculation
QUOTE (mmmmmbeeer @ May 8, 2016 -> 09:31 PM) It's not a great contract but would definitely help us over the next few seasons....do y'all think we could get Joey Votto from Cincy? Given the Cubs success and youth, I can't believe Cincy sees themselves as competitive any time in the near future. Maybe they look to unload that contract now. It's a lot of loot but if we are WS contenders for the next 3-5 years, it's worth making the move. If the Sox are world series contenders for the next 3-5 years, it certainly won't be with THIS team. The Sox lose 2 catchers, 2 starters, the SS and CF after this year. How do you propose to fill those holes by jettisoning young players for one 32 year old? Sure the Sox can sign some of them back, sure maybe another C or CF may be available on a 1 year deal for 2017...but maybe not. And all of these guys are old. And then look at 2018, when we lose our LF, 2b and 3b. And let's talk 32. How confident are you that someone who is now 32 and having a bad year, will produce to elite levels in 3-5 years? Make no mistake....all of this drooling over Reds and Brewers players can only help, if it does help, THIS year. And it will HURT the chances to win in the next 2-5 years. As for trading young pitchers, the Sox have drafted heavily in pitching and as of now have 3 dependable starters in their prime and ZERO in AAA. It certainly is true that the odds of any individual minor league pitcher making the majors as a solid starter is small. But some of these guys in A and AA WILL become ML starters and you need to leave them alone and let them develop. And then, look at the track record of the "stars" the Sox trade for. Pretty ugly. Look at Carlos Gomez, another Brewer, with Houston.

Some guys in Kanny are looking promising. The Dash figured to struggle some this year, but it's really rough right now.

Early Trade Speculation
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 8, 2016 -> 11:04 AM) Free agent signings are one thing, but when you start talking about trading Rodon or Quintana, Eaton, Fulmer and Anderson, then you're shooting yourself in the foot too much because we don't have the minor league depth remaining to cover for all the loss in talent. yes, what we should do is invest in the farm and sign FAs and make minor acquisitions or young player-for-young player for players we need. No young players for past their prime veterans with bad-splits playing in band boxes.

Is Avi Putting It Together?
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 7, 2016 -> 10:01 AM) I see you are enjoying the 20-10 start. You must be a treat to be around. How's Addison Reed these days, Mr Sunshine? Drake and Adam? I'm enjoying the winning very much, thank you. We'd be even better, and for more years, if we'd stop trading young talent for these "stars" who never really were "stars." I'm enjoying Avi Garcia as well.....of course, supporting him is considered "negative" according to your groupthink.

2016 MLB catch all thread
Oakland a bit premature in calling up Wendelken (to say the least). Josh Phegley was Oakland's best pitcher today. Even got a K.

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ May 5, 2016 -> 01:10 PM) Trade chip? This is an organization that just called up Scott Carroll. It's not exactly rolling in pitching. How about developing him, maybe rushing him a little to AAA, and see what happens. The alternative is to trade 3 Danishs at inflated July prices for one "proven pitcher" who has a good chance of flopping.

Surging White Sox have earned Ventura new contract
What exactly has Ventura done to earn an extension? He ran a clubhouse that was nothing but a clown act for 3 years. Williams had to play the heavy in the Laroche situation. The clubhouse finally got serious, but not because of Ventura. And his decision making has never been what one would call state-of-the-art.

Is Avi Putting It Together?
He very well may be turning it around. He has talent. Sometimes it takes time. We'll see. Even elite players like Todd Frazier didn't pull it together until 25 or 26.
-
Top 30 International Prospects; July 2nd 2016
This is clearly the year to take a big plunge into the international markets. This is where to spend the Laroche windfall. can't say I'm surprised they have no interest in doing that. Building an org. isn't part of the' contrived "2 year window".
-
Scott Carroll called up
At least Gonzales and Johnson showed something - good K numbers - may be something to work with. neither pitched the Sox out of the game (maybe it was lucky they didn't, but they didn't). Carroll has an ERA in excess of 12 and a WHIP in excess of 3 in Charlotte. Ridiculous.

Early Trade Speculation
And the answer is Trayce Thompson, Avisail Garcia, Marcus Semien. What is name 3 players out-hitting the "elite" Todd Frazier, Alex. But please trade 4 more young players for another proven veteran, Kenny Hahn. Even though it is a proven counterproductive strategy, it gives fans temporary succor and allows them to "dream again"

2016 AL Central catch-all thread
I can't figure out who to root for in the Central, other than the Twins. So I guess beating each other up is the best thing for the Sox.

Early Trade Speculation
Look at the Mariners. Prior GM adds Cano and Cruz and do nothing. New GM works around the edges, fixes the defense and pen, and they're good again. San Diego last year acquired all sorts of downside veterans, cleaning out the farm in the process. Board favs like Kimbrall, Kemp...can't go wrong. Well, they stunk. Boston added Panda and Ramirez and they blew. Sat one, put the other at first, and used young players, and they contend again. They added Price, and he's stunk. The Sox this year...the big differences are Lawrie and Jackson - fixing the defense and adding some incremental offensive improvement. And yet the lust to trade everything for the "star" goes on unabated.

I thought they cut Suiter. Maybe I misread that.

Early Trade Speculation
QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ May 4, 2016 -> 04:11 PM) He made it sound like there's a bunch of players who come over to the Sox and suddenly have a huge dropoff in their walk numbers, but I can't find a single example of a player who did that. You're right...sometimes it's the batting average that takes the 50 point drop instead. From a macro perspective: Ritchie Swisher Samardzija Edwin Jackson (to be fair he was never any better than mediocre; and he was mediocre with the Sox just like with everyone else). Vasquez - see Jackson Dunn Laroche And, dare I suggest, Frazier., so far...hopefully he turns around. But as of now, Trayce is out-hitting him. So is Lawrie, who didn't cost Trayce et al. The only ones that produced were Thome and Garcia and those were still dubious trades (Thome "allowed" KW to get rid of Frank - while produced .100 OPS points less than Thome, we were stuck with Anderson/Mackowiak instead of Rowand; Garcia was a rent...we could have signed him as a FA). Robertson is excellent and several smaller acquisitions have been pure gold. And yet people are convinced that another blockbuster transaction is the golden key. It's madness. Heck, look what happened to the Astros after their acquisition of 2 "Elite" pieces, who suddenly aren't so elite.

Early Trade Speculation
Sox offensive weakness is the 2 hole...they need someone who can get on base. While longing for the Sox to decimate the farm to acquire the next over the hill or bad-splits slugger, no one seems bothered about Rollins' .636 OPS in the 2 hole (if he were a rookie instead of 38 people would be going crazy about it). That's one less runner for Abreu and Frazier (hopefully) to drive in. Now they could correct that to some extent by moving Lawrie to the 2 hole, but they'd lose something in the mid-back of the order.

Early Trade Speculation
Low batting average and high walks...and when they come to the Sox, they keep the low batting average and forget how to walk. 36 and in decline. It's sure to work this time.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 4, 2016 -> 09:50 AM) As always, if you are curious about a White Sox prospect, first stop can be the Prospect Profiles page on Future Sox. Here's the profile on Danny specifically. Pretty foretelling write-up there, North. Nice.

The Jeff Samardzija Thread
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 4, 2016 -> 06:21 AM) Speaking of poorly conceived trades, your trading Adam Eaton for prospects because he wasn't as good as his numbers and doesn't have the arm for RF will go down as an all time worst. Yes and that's the kind of trade I support and I have consistently supported. Young player for young player....not for a declining vet or a a rent of a career year. Of course I take the good with the bad. You're still whining about losing Addison Reed, which was same philosophy as the Eaton trade. Myers was a decling veteran who wasn't anything special in Houston.

Early Trade Speculation
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ May 4, 2016 -> 07:35 AM) Would Julio Teheran cost Tim Anderson? Tehran is a mid rotation guy who would help more to get to the playoffs than in the playoffs. That may be his price but it's too much. Such trades of course rarely help and usually cause harm. But that doesn't stop the exuberance for them. Heck no one is even talking about Frazier, the super super slugger, and his Dunn-like output.
