  1. The other side of Miller as a headliner is that we could have just drafted him ourselves last year, right? It's annoying that we have to trade for what we easily could have had. And in the end, is his upside the equal of Robert's? Ideally, by taking more risk and deferring the reward, you should get more upside than what you are trading away. Thus, the importance of careful evaluation of secondary pieces.
  2. Wilson hasn't been consistent, but he's decidedly better than Anderson or Kuhl. I can only figure that they don't want to trade Wilson, but do have hopes of moving anderson or Kuhl (floundering as those hopes may be). Or they think they can fix Wilson. It doesn't amount to a whole lot this year, but the Sox have not done a great job sifting through these veteran relievers. Cast offs Tim Hill and Chavez are pitching well with contenders.
  3. That should be doable; it leaves them their #1 guy and #3 or #4. Just scout the heck out of their (and others) systems for the secondary pieces. But Dombrowski really hasn't traded many prospects as GM of the Phillies, so we'll see. But Getz needs to start moving. The supply will increase in a week (especially with pitchers). Robert and Crochet will probably still be atop the available players, but there will be a lot of others to choose from. Toronto, Tampa, Washington, Detroit, Angels, Pitt, Cincy Texas (per this morning's article) won't go scorched earth, but will sell in varying degrees.
  4. Grab Abel too as a throw-in. See what Bannister can do with him. I know he was a ranked prospect, and “throw in” may be hyperbolic, but he’s dropping like a rock
  5. How can they not? Yet they won't until season's end.
  6. That would be nice. But an issue with Robert to Seattle is that Seattle has a huge strikeout problem, and Robert adds to it .
  7. No team wants to. And few will. Sox evaluators really need to know these farms of possible purchasers.
  8. I didn't say it was; But it was important when Mr. Home Run Derby was playing. Today what is important is prettying these players up to be traded (as well as developing a few). What is not important in any way, shape or form is the all star game. The All Star Game was interesting in yesteryear when there were 2 distinct leagues that only met at the ASG and the World Series.
  9. It was a bad idea, the way he spent it. The middle/bottom of the pen pitched today and they gave up 2 runs in 4 innings. This wasn't the bullpen's fault. Pedro coddles his best relievers; doesn't like using them 2 days in a row, etc. As for Crochet, they should rest him until after the ASG. I know that the FO has prioritized the All Star Game for some reason, so I guess they go back to 4 days rest and throw him Thursday. But I hope they don't. Reminds me of Todd Frazier, when making sure he was rested and comfortable for Home Run Derby was more important than winning baseball games.

I just love how he doesn't have a lot of moving parts in his swing. Now wrist-cocks mid-swing, no lunges.
  11. yea, sorry, got my threads mixed up.
  12. Well that was pathetic. Did they even get a hit after the 3rd inning? They had their 2 good innings out of Soroka; no reason to push it further. And if he's a "long reliever" well they didn't even use it him in Thursday's bullpen game. Context Pedro: these relievers are all on audition. Anderson's pitched in 3/4 games. Pedro usually doesn't even pitch them back-to back.
  13. Well, the Marlins’ radio and TV crews are really good.
  14. I would also think that a 1B/DH type needs to really rake in the minors - at least .900 OPS.
  15. I get the Jim Mora vibes, DFA? DFA? If they won't even move him out of the 2 hole or give him a day off, how can you talk about DFA? Now maybe they are giving their last gasps of trying to dress him up and make him somewhat palatable as part of a trade. But after July 30, he's got to sit. Eloy too. He should be DFAd after July 30. Colas needs to play. Julks needs to play - heck, he had 2 hits in his last game, and he hasn't played in a week. It's ridiculous. They've got a lot of players they need to see. And where's Soroka? He's looked good lately, but hasn't pitched since Sunday. He didn't even pitch in what I assume was Pedro's idea of a bullpen game yesterday,
  16. This is a team that has the woeful Nicky Lopez and Mendick and we’re talking about a player who has been raking as a utility guy? FFS. Play him and bat him 2nd. Let’s find out what he can really do. and DFA, Lopez, and Mendick as soon as August hits.

please tell me that the sorry state of this DSL team isn't indicative of the quality of the Sox international signings.
  18. Pulled for Anderson who pitched last night and got bombed. I don't know what Anderson is doing on this team anyway; no team will want him. They have better pitchers in Charlotte such as Leasure.
  19. What is Grifol's major malfunction?
  20. Christian Mena had his major league debut. He now sits at -.2 WAR. For all of the preening that Arizona Twitter does about him, he hadn’t been very good in AAA either. he was always inconsistent with the Sox. I had figured that Arizona would settle hm back down in AA and let him develop
  21. That would be ridiculous. Just go with a six man rotation and cap him at 5 innings or so. Thorpe and Cannon don’t need their arms pitched off either. he wasn’t injured as a starter. He was injured twice as a reliever.
  22. Well if it won't require a haul, it shouldn't be hard to move him at all. If it requires a haul, it looks like Seattle or bust to me. But I'm really suspicious of any willingness to sell low, given Pedro as manager; he was griping about him last season for no real reason (not running out a ground ball, as I recall); Pedro and his stupid "clubhouse" garbage. Plus, the Sox need an influx of real talent. And only Robert and Crochet can bring that. it's worth the risk to wait out for a haul. At least wait until Seattle checks in; they should be nearing the desperation point soon.
  23. That's true, but this is baseball, and good players, which he is, make a lot more than that. So do bad players. And really, there was no reason for the Sox to wait so long to call him up, especially with Hahnber's affectation with the bullpen. Most teams grow at least 1/2 of their pen from farmhands like him.
  24. Tanner Banks is going to be 37 when he hits free agency. He's never had a bad year in the pros: his worst whip for any year was 1.37, most of his career as a starter. Sox waited until he was 30 to call him up. And he'll never get any sort of payday. It's a shame.
