Padres into Garret Crochet
Sometimes when they move guys up real fast (without performance that would warrant it) or jump them a level to fill an opening, I get the feeling that the FO has basically given up on further development.

Padres into Garret Crochet
Objectively, I would say the AAA guys are suspect.

Padres into Garret Crochet
They could be competitive in 3 years if done correctly; 5 years away = 10 years away = perpetual rebuild (Pirates). Now I don't know whether Getz will do it correctly or not. But the farm has been improving, and not just from the players brought in from other orgs. And some of the farm will have to be traded, but never for aging players, rents or one-year wonders. More good news is that Crochet is #8 in pitcher fWAR (one spot ahead of Cease) and Fedde is #30, ahead of several name pitchers and pitchers whose names have been bandied about as having good years. I do wish that Getz had put more into this bullpen; they make nice trade pieces (and this horrid pen is a contributor to this being a 40 win team instead of 60 win). Can Getz get this done? I have no idea. But too early to give up or to pound on him.

Getz has made a few dumb personnel moves, but those things don't really make me think he'll be a bad GM (he's also made some good ones). He was saddled with a lot of immovable flotsam for this season. But the one thing that DOES scare me is that he retained Grifol and listens to him (Maldonado is probably a Grifol request). It was obvious a year ago that the game is way over Grifol's head. Getz needs to surround himself with strong baseball minds, and he should be self-aware enough to know that he needs to do that to succeed.

Sox need position players. Maybe Preller/Getz can find a 3rd team with an abundance of position prospects that could use his pitching prospects. As for pitchers, it's got to be 3 really good prospects as most don't make it. Crochet has made it.

Story on Sox trade possibilities...
Yea, I like selling to the Padres. They always have a bounty of legit prospects and aren't afraid to deal them....presumably because Preller, the best talent identifier in the biz, knows that he can find more.

Passan on ESPN writes that the Sox are willing to trade anybody, including Crochet and Robert.

Thanks. While Gonzalez wasn't the preferred choice of most, he wasn't a huge reach either. Also only significantly punted 1 round.

Fire Pedro Grifol
Pedro taking things day by day. Put the past behind you. Leadership.

Schriffen says he was aiming at “Sportscasters”
He sounds like school kid sometimes.

The only time that I remember the Sox doing an underslot in the first round was Burger; and then they used the savings on Sheets who didn't need to be paid overslot. I've seen the Sox overslot various rounds and then pay for it by punting several other rounds; the extent to which that approach has netted positive results remains to be seen.

He's still my choice, although I get the misgivings. He's got a smooth swing; a lot of these guys have noisy swings. I don't like any of these college pitchers early. Maybe there's a pre guy out there that it makes sense. Maybe a reach/underslot, although I'm not sure the Sox are sharp enough can pull that entire sequence off.

5/28 Games
Yeah, my understanding is that the Guards take command over velocity, and try to build up the velocity (given one or the other).

Guess Trade Values of Sox Starters
Then hold him. There’s really no urgent reason to move him.

5/29 Sox Vs. Jays 6:40PM CT
I think Pedro should triple down on his comments from the other day. That might motivate them.

FutureSox: White Sox 5 Round Draft Projection
Relief pitching would provide scant leverage for s top five pick. this organization has clowned around with relief pitching far too many times in the first round. Plus how many 2-way players have we seen a major league baseball? One effective one. Pass.

If he’s a reliever, don’t let him pitch. Unless they think he can’t miss as a hitter, draft someone else.

Guess Trade Values of Sox Starters
The priority, I would think, is maximizing trade value (if they have no intention of extending him). 100 innings at or near his current performance probably does that for the winter. If they pitch him into next season and he hits the wall, as you suggest, they they are left holding the bag.

Guess Trade Values of Sox Starters
Crochet is young and healthy. Reynaldo hasn't had a starter's load since 2019; the Giants sent career reliever Hicks to a full go as starter. A lot of people didn't think Crochet could make it at all as a starter. I'm willing to see how it goes. That said, don't trade Crochet until the winter. Trade him now and teams will have the exact questions that people are raising here about his endurance. If he gets a season under his belt, the questions are quelled. That will put him in the exact same contract/control position that Cease was last winter; but hopefully coming off a dominant year.

Smith also doesn't have the smoothest delivery in the world.

Story on Sox trade possibilities...
Don't see a need to trade either one of those guys for scraps.

Pedro doubles down...
He was complaining about the players and the clubhouse last year as well. Meanwhile, his job is to fix those things.
-
Fire Pedro Grifol
And he's been bitching about the clubhouse since the day he took over. Just wonderful.
-
Fire Pedro Grifol
Yea, Pedro can yell at the players and they probably deserve it. But they could also rightfully tell him to GFY.

Fire Pedro Grifol
Beyond that. The worst MLB team this Century (one of those Tiger teams I suppose was really awful). Perhaps the worst Sox team in history.
