  1. What would that accomplish? The payroll is going to be low enough as it is next year. This team has one for sure major league hitter going forward. One. Are we going to give away our best trade chit? yes, he clogged others’ development. I’m tired of looking at him. Just DFA him. or just let him sit on the bench and play solitaire. Pedro doesn’t use his bullpen like a competent manager anyway, so they don’t need 13 pitchers.
  2. And even if they were contenders, who cares? The AL East teams trade with each other all the time. Schueler had that "we won't trade with the AL" nonsense when he was white flagging it; we ended up with Foulke and a pile of crap instead of the Lowe and Varitek that Boston got for Slocumb who wasn't as good as Roberto Hernandez, not to mention the other players that the Sox threw into the trade.
  3. i think Law was probably right - hasn't been the same since the back injury. There really wasn't any sign of him being unable to hit velocity before that. Hopefully he can recover from that. But he may not - great prospects turn to crap all the time. The one plus is that he's not changing his approach.
  4. For Tampa, it may be as simple as they suck at DH and they have someone waiting in the wings who can play 3B. Meanwhile, they pick up 2 power arms. They probably could have gotten some good prospects from another team, but they don't want to rebuild, just retool. They know what they're doing.
  5. And Getz, if the Twins are Guardians make the best offer, take it. Who cares if he throws against us a few times next year.
  6. Well, I'll try. This actually violates some of my preferences such as not using our best trade chips for corners. But alas: 1) Trade Crochet and Kopech for Rushing, Outman and 3 good pitching prospects. 2)Trade Fedde for the best SS/3B/OF prospect he can find; maybe 2. Offseason: 3)Trade Thorpe for a SS/3B/OF prospect. Addendum: Vaughn, Moncada, Sheets, Lopez, Eloy, all hit the bricks. 2025 4) Play Colas/Julks/Fletcher/DeLoach. One of them develops into an average starter. Another one develops into a platoon bat. 5) Give Sosa time in OF; work him toward being a utility player. His bat may work, but we'll see. 6) Robert is resurgent and is traded for 2 good hitting prospects SS/3B/OF" 7)Baldwin develops into an average ML 2B. 8 ) Quero gets his first taste of the majors and is the real deal At the end of 2025 we have: C- Lee and Quero; Rushing 3rd catcher 1B Rushing 2B Baldwin SS and 3B and LF: one of the prospects from Fedde/Thorpe/Robert trade. CF Outman RF: The Colas/F.letcher/DeLoach winner Will leave plenty of $$ for a judicious FA signing or 2. That should get us competitive; need at last 2 boppers, which need to come from some of the above and/or FA.
  7. Sox need someone with the patience to develop young players.
  8. That’s a ton. Getz can’t cut a deal? Do the other GMs just think he’s a dupe and won’t offer anything?
  9. Pedro explained the situation: "Unless there's something that's really, really, really close to being executed, you don't compromise a major-league game for something that's not really close."
  10. Sox #1 and #2 hole hitters: 7 Ks in 10 PAs. Brooks Baldwin, after spending his first week under .100 in BA and OPS, quickly has an OPS of .568. That's ahead of "The Pillar's" .558 and closing in on Nicky Lopez' righteous .582.
  11. Add Vaughn to the list. Gracious.
  12. Eloy, Sheets, and a few others need to be DFAd come Wednesday. And Pedro has this great ability to give the most relief appearances to the worst pitchers. He's just so dim.
  13. A lot of Baty squat from the Mets fans on X. He and his .607 OPS is the kind of failed prospect the Sox need to stay far away from. Jordan Walker is another one - DH only hasn't hit since 2022.
  14. Crochet shouldn’t start tomorrow either.
  15. So what does this say about Fedde’s value? His numbers aren’t that dissimilar, although his salary is. Fedde’s WAR is certainly better.
  16. Was there a reason why he was pulled? Or did Pedro just decide to rest him.
  17. yea but they have to pay inheritance tax on anything above, what, $13 mill? And that tax rate is a lot higher than the long term capital gains rate.
  18. Yes, it was senseless to acquire them and not play them. I don't trust anything out of Charlotte. That place needs a makeover. Certainly can trust any statistic; maybe they can watch/scout the players and make judgments that way. I'd rather them move the players onto the major league club straight from AA.
  19. And 7 years later, Tommy Kahnle is still on the Yankees... And on a side note, a couple of rule 5 eligible A ball players rounded out that trade. Hahn was such a putz.
  20. Will some team please give us their #10 prospect for Pham?
  21. Eder had been stalling with the Marlins when the Sox acquired him. You really have to be careful with the prospects: when they start heading south it's often a hard irredeemable drop. I'm hoping the Montgomery situation really is lingering back issues, and not just has talent hitting a wall.
  22. While that's true, he didn't give up a lot to get Fletcher, De Loach or Julks. (oh I guess Mena could be something). But then again, why trade for them if you won't play them? These guys were all as major league ready as they were ever going to be. Heck Julks is on the main roster and Grifol refuses to play him. And as far as I can tell Charlotte is like some black hole that just sucks in players; does anyone ever actually improve by playing there? And are they going to continue with the Benitendi dog and pony show for the next 3 seasons? I don't care about the 25% chance that he hits .750 OPS somewhere else. He's not doing that here. DFA him (and a lot of others).
  23. This guy for the Mariners hits corners all night and throws a 95 mph heater. He'll make mincemeat of the Sox hitters, unless he gets bored. When Thorpe is on, he hits corners and is tough to hit. But hen the heater is 91mph, there's no room for error as said above.
  24. The organization is a debacle because of bad drafts and a lazy international effort; Eloy, Andeson and Moncada turning to crap overnight; and Hahnber's outrageous misuse of what were a lot of free agent dollars. There were other wastes such as squandering 1/2 of Crochet's service time so Hahnber could ram him into the bullpen, optioning Kimbrel over Rodon, and others. This wasn't Getz. Getz did a lousy job putting this team together this year: Maladando, Nicky Lopez - I mean, come on. That's just not a serious effort. He made several misjudgments in the bullpen. But in the end, it's not debilitating because with better moves this team would have won, what, 60 games maybe? None of this set the team back much (unlike many of Hahn's moves). And big part of why this team is historically bad instead of just bad is the raging incompetent Pedro Grifol (handpicked by Hahn). Now his job is to fix this mess that he inherited. He's got to get moving. He can start by making great trades the next few days (kicking the can is not the answer) and just cutting bait of the known stiffs and bring up the guys who have been hanging out a long while in AAA ( Julks, DeLoach, Colas, Sosa may not be the answer, but play them and let them prove it first).
  25. If Crochet gets hurt, he has nothing. His request should not be a surprise. Sox should have been on top of this. But heck, even now they won't give him an extra days rest (it's ridiculous to throw Fedde/Crochet Saturday and Sunday). The Braves treated Sale and Lopez much more gingerly than the Sox have treated Crochet.
