Braves acquire Jarred Kelenic
I get the Benintendi angst, but Moncada will be here for 1 more year, they don't have anyone else at the position, and it's not all that unlikely that he has a decent year. I suspect that any savings from moving him will go into JR's wallet and the Sox will pay for it prospect-wise. Looks to me that the Braves just reloaded their spare parts, after sending a bunch to the Sox.

Braves actually sent Seattle a decent pitching prospect for that pile of junk

The Winter Meetings thread
Those teams from 2000 - 2005 were loaded with talent, and they still needed some "blindly falling" to win it. This team will need a miracle...or Getz to be a great GM, which I suppose would be a miracle.

Well so much for that idea I just like the idea of getting some more immediate help. I fear a complete rebuild turning into the perpetual Pirates

I guess I'm the squirrel here, but I'd take that deal with the Rangers, if the prospect was upgraded from Stephan to Walcott or Acuna. Taveras is an improving hitter and Bradford should be a fine back-end rotation guy.

Nick Padilla outrighted, Adam Haseley becomes a FA
I forget his name, but there's an outfielder on Az who looks interesting. Ex con, but he did his time.

Cease To Padres per Passan
I don't know about the specifics. Just that I know they have a lot of good young players, their FO lineage isn't as prospect-hoggish as others, I don't think they are quite at the LAD, TBR, AB level such that we are less likely to get their foolsgold prospects, and we've made good trades with them before. St Louis would bee fine too, as they've made mistakes trading prospects before, but I suspect that they're gun-shy and are only willing to trade out of their junk drawer, which is pretty deep in quantity.

Cease To Padres per Passan
I'd like to see an Arizona trade.

Cease To Padres per Passan
Fans of the 71 win Cardinals debating whether they can possibly part with Edman, Donovan, O'neill or Carlson for a Cease trade.

Cease To Padres per Passan
Well, that's why we're in this position Those are okay Major League K and walk rates. But he earned those in the minors.

Leery of Kjerstad. Ks a lot, doesn't walk enough, chases. Not headliner material, to me.

Cease To Padres per Passan
Understandably so. GMs like Hazen didn't get where they are by trading away their best prospects. Of course also where his is 0-3 and outclassed the playoffs; hopefully, he cracks. If anyone does, it's likely Baltimore (or us). Other GMs would give-in; of course, that's a reason their teams suck and aren't in the market for Cease.

Cease To Padres per Passan
Yea but E Rod was a rent, and while there is a definite sellers market aspect to July, there is also a buyer's market in the sense that the seller has to unload or they get nothing. And as it is, 2 years of Cease is a lot, lot more than 3 months of E Rod.

Cease To Padres per Passan
That was a lousy deal for Boston on paper; no surprise that it turned out lousy. I don't think the Dodgers give up much talent either. The Nats haven't gotten much out of the Scherzer Turner trade. That the Dodgers, who know the Sox players and prospects better than anyone (including probably the Sox themselves) like Cease should send a message to the other teams that Cease is worth trading for; but also is a warning flag not to trade with the Dodgers (especially if they want a prospect kicked-back their way). I'd prefer a trade with the Cardinals, who have given up good players. But no interest at all in their spare parts like Edman, Donovan and all of those failed outfielders, except as a toss in. The Cardinals were a sorry 71-win team last year; about what the Sox would have been, had we not dumped our pitching in August.

Cease To Padres per Passan
That is the quintessential "trade Cease for the junk drawer of a 70-win team" trade. And we'd have to throw in a reliever for the privilege.

Cease To Padres per Passan
The Os could hug 3 or 4 specific prospects really tightly and still make a good offer.
-
Sonny Gray to STL
That’s fine. It tightens up the pitching supply and we no longer have to listen to St. Louis fans offering up the junk drawer of a 70-win team for Cease.

Well you're probably right and they probably are.

Reynaldo López signs 3 yr deal with ATL
I hope the Sox do that with Crochet.

Cease To Padres per Passan
As a member of the the anti "tear down to the studs" camp, I'd still trade him for Thomas and Pfaadt. I don't know if Az would go for it, but it's not like they had strong rookie years. Pretty bad, in fact.

DeJong to Sox
But we have like 4 Remillards we can park in Charlotte in reserve; maybe they have limited options, I don't know. Nicky isn't going to get any better. I suppose Shewmake might. Anyway, if the idea is to park them in Charlotte, then why not try to get a real prospect out of the deal instead? And then if they sign Merrifield on top of this, it gets really confusing.

I have a trade idea that is probably not worth its own thread
I wouldn't trade Kopech because he might be really, really good, so hold on to him and see. The Sox don't have a lot of really, really good. The whole operation is was so effed up last season that I wouldn't sell low on these guys. His two prior years were pretty good. And Manoah, I get it, isn't necessarily selling law. But his blowup was alarming (much greater than either Cease or Kopech's blow-up); the Jays were a good team so there is no context to it. plus the Jays appear to be peddling him, which, to me, means "stay away."

DeJong to Sox
Why take 2 middle infielders from the Braves, only to do this?

Reynaldo López signs 3 yr deal with ATL
There's no reason to trade Moncada anyway. They won't get anything for him; and if they want salary relief, they will have to give to get someone to take him. He's gone in a year, and they don't have anyone else to play 3rd. He's not a terrible player. And it's Pedro's job to create a healthy clubhouse culture; can't blame it all on the players.
