QUOTE(toasty @ Jul 17, 2005 -> 03:32 AM) i dont think we want lowell either, too much money for too long of time, fields should be ready sooner, rather than later, if crede's back becomes a permanent issue Fields' line at Birmy -- .250/.323/.414. Not exactly setting the world on fire, though those are decent after his first half. Just saying, we shouldn't be using "Fields will be ready soon" as an excuse not to get another thirdbaseman. That's not to say I'm for Lowell, 'cause I'm not. He's slumping, really bad -- heck, Scott Podsednik's only slugging .007 points less than him. That's bad. I'm actually against the Contreras/Marte for Burnett deal, too -- 'cause I don't think giving up that is worth Burnett. Truth be told, if Williams could pull of a deal that got us Guardado/Wagner and a long relief, swingman type, I'd be so pleased. Wagner is going to be the hot target in the next two-three weeks, so I'd be extremely happy with Guardado.

I got myself tickets to three games next week -- Monday against Detroit in the UD, Wednesday against Detroit in the UD (still gotta buy tickets, I got the teacher discount tix, maybe UD tickets), and Saturday against Boston with Soxnbears and IlliniKrush. Then I probably won't go for awhile, save up again. The game I really want to save up for is the game at home when the Sox have a chance to clinch. I don't care if I have to give $75 bucks for a standing room only seat, I'll do it. And any playoff games thereafter.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 16, 2005 -> 07:54 PM) They also want to move Millar. That's what I'm thinking -- Dunn would be a long time guy at first for them, considering he's what, 25 years old? And, while I don't know about the depth of Boston's farm system, the names that jump out at me -- Pedroia (sp?), Ramirez -- certainly not firstbasemen. I'm sure Dunn would have a field day hitting shallow flies to left that end up as doubles off the monster, as well as the short-corner in right, down the line. Plus, Manny-Ortiz-Dunn -- that would be arguably as good, probably better, than Pujols-Rolen-Edmonds. And this is off-topic, I had a dream that Kenny traded Rogowski for some s***ty AAA fodder pitcher. Man, was I pissed...
-
Jason -- you know I'm a huge fan of Dunn -- but I think he's a real good candidate for the Dodgers, or maybe even Boston (depending on what James/Epstein think about all his K's). I'm thinking LA, though, because they got the prospects to get Dunn.

Harris is totally in a funk right now. Regardless of the hit, he looks awful at the plate. -

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 16, 2005 -> 06:17 PM) I swear AJ has had the worst luck at the plate of anyone on this team this year. He's hit more hard line drives right at people or shots that have barely been caught than anyone. Someone actually had a stat that I actually think showed that. Yep -- his PrOPS (Predicted OPS), which is based on line drives (among several other things), was .100 points higher than his normal OPS, showing he's been extremely unlucky. -
QUOTE(Cubs Suck23 @ Jul 16, 2005 -> 06:00 PM) Hopefully we can get Edwin Jackson in return Edwin Jackson has really dropped in his prospect status. He's walked 44 in just over 80 IP, and has only K'ed 52 (between Jacksonville and Las Vegas). Is he hurt? 'Cause, those are not very impressive numbers at all... And, I should say, that until Edwin regains his 'stuff' and his control, I'd rather have Shingo -- for our bullpen use or otherwise. Wow -- he and Greg Miller seemed to have had a rought year or so.

Coach pays kid to hurt disabled teammate I hope they lock this f***ing moron away for years. Gah... pisses me off that a guy like this can be so near children. They ought to lock him up for a long, long time... IMO. Mercy...

QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Jul 16, 2005 -> 04:29 AM) How do you make the QB scramble??? Hold down A for X-Box. For PS2, I assume it's X. Or whatever the bottom button is on the little diamond of four buttons. Can anyone suggest a playbook? I'm fed up with Northwestern's "just about everything is shotgun" offense, and I'm looking for a new one. Preferably one with some lots of option plays.

Alright, really gotta make it hurt, Jermaine... Carl is so vulnerable to that breaking ball down and in. He always swings at it. -

Ugh -- I'm worried about Pablo. One 0'fer night and his OBP is going to be entering Timo/Willie land... -
I don't get it. Ozzie says that Gload isn't versataile (sp?) enough 'cause he can only play one position right now. Yet, how many more positions can Timo or Harris play? Ozzie is quoted as saying Timo can play all three OF positions. Yet, when was the last time Timo played CF? Certainly not this year, right? He plays two positions -- two positions where we have a ton of depth. LF -- Podsednik, Rowand, Everett, Ozuna CF -- Rowand, Podsednik, Harris RF -- Dye, Everett, Ozuna If Ozzie really believes that Timo's clubhouse presence and ability to play three (not really -- two) positions in the outfield, or Harris' slick-fielding secondbase skills and speed off the bench, is more important than Gload's hitting ability alone (.294/.349/.443) career line -- well, then I'm really questioning his judgement.

QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Jul 15, 2005 -> 06:31 PM) LOL! They're on their hottest streak of the season and they're still 2 games above .500. Oakland is 3.5 games back and is behind 5 other teams for the Wild Card. Were you satisfied with the results last weekend? Well, considering everyone was bashing the hell out of Oakland when they were down, saying that they might be worse than Kansas City -- it's kind of funny where all those people have gone. They're starting to get healthy, too. Durazo should be back soon, they've gotten Harden and Crosby back -- and, it will be interesting to see what Kennedy will do for them. Note: I said interesting, not good, not bad -- just, he's out of Coors now, and apparently Beane has liked him for a long time. I'm not gonna say that they'll win the win the West, or the WC for that matter, but they're certainly a team to keep your eye on. Especially after all the 'experts' took their shots at kicking Oakland when they were down in April.

QUOTE(Y2HH @ Jul 15, 2005 -> 12:49 PM) Crede can be replaced. As good as his defense is, we have capable stopgaps. The solution is this simple. Uribe to 3B, Ozuna at SS. Done and done. Ozuna cannot be any worse offensively than Crede, and Ozuna has speed. Crede's line -- .240/.297/.422 Ozuna's line -- .286/.330/.297 Crede's OPS -- .719 Ozuna's OPS -- .627 And, unfortunately, Ozuna's line is declining -- plus he's never proven he can hit for a whole year at the major league level. If you think Ozuna is a replacement for Crede (by switching Uribe to third), you're kidding yourself.

This trade market, as of July 15th, does not look very attractive at all. For example -- making a move for a guy like Burnett/Schmidt, would that really help us? Burnett is extremely injury prone, and Schmidt isn't fully healthy right now either. Plus, you'd be giving up Marte, a key part of the bullpen. A week ago, I would have been really for KW getting a Lilly/Day type to fill Vizcaino's spot as long reliever, but Toronto is still in the WC race, and Day's been traded. So I basically took my mind off of those two. I guess, if Crede's back is bad, Joe Randa should be looked at. I don't think a veteran like Randa would mind being a platoon player with Crede, possibly more with the potential of Crede going on the DL -- and, only for a half a season on the best team in baseball. He could make a deal -- but does he really have to? Honestly now, as much as we b**** about Contreras, he's our #4, and doing a damn good job of it, too. Everybody knew El Duque wouldn't last the whole season -- he's here to be a big part of the stretch run, and (hopefully) a playoff run too. All in all, I hope he doesn't make a deal just for the sake of making a deal. You can always upgrade the bullpen, and Vizcaino's spot needs an upgrade -- so I look for something to be done there. But other than that, I don't think anything needs extreme improvement.

QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Jul 15, 2005 -> 05:34 AM) the problem is, i was talking about this year. those bastages wont help out for a few years. Seabrook is highly thought of throughout the organization, probably moreso than Babchuk. I'm pretty sure he'll have a good shot at making the team. He was called up to Norfolk for the playoff run, and the people who saw him said they were very impressed. And Barker is only a year behind. And Brian -- I just don't see it bringing in a whole bunch of new fans. How many extra people are really going to attend a game on the chance (a small one, probably less than 10%) that they might see a shootout? I'm not really that against it, because with the stuff their proposing -- 4-on-4, then a 3-on-3, then a shootout -- I don't see that many games actually getting to the shootout. But I also can't see people coming to a game just 'cause they might see a shootout. If they fix up the other stuff in the game, like smaller goalie pads and start calling obstruction; along with the stuff their doing to make the game faster, like tag-up offsides and no-touch icing, I think the fans will come back.

QUOTE(Wedge @ Jul 15, 2005 -> 05:25 AM) I think you could argue that the A's have 3 aces these days: Harden, Zito, Duchsheruerhdher or whatever his name is. Umm... Duchscherer is a reliever. He'll still probably say the same thing, just with Harden-Zito-Haren instead of Mulder-Zito-Hudson. And still won't give him any credit for acquiring/drafting the guys.

QUOTE(southsideirish @ Jul 15, 2005 -> 03:18 AM) I would rather count on the Count or El Duque instead of Lilly Agreed with Tony and R44. Lilly is coming back down to his norm. In June, he made five starts, went 2-3 with a 4.20 ERA in 30 IP. In July, he's gone 20 innings and put up a 1.35 ERA. More importantly (though an extremely small sample size), he's done well against some real good competition, making me think he's back to his normal self. Seven innings of shutout ball against the Cards, seven innings of two run ball against the O's (10 K's), and six innings of one run ball against Boston. I still don't think we'll land Lilly, but he'd be a nice addition for the right price. Day would have been awesome as our long reliever, but that possibility is (most likely) out the window now. My educated (or uneducated -- probably the latter ) opinion tells me that we don't get Burnett; like you guys said, too much to give up such a big part (if healthy) of our bullpen in Marte. Honestly, I think KW is doing everything in his power to get Billy Wagner. Hermanson-Wagner-Politte-Marte-Cotts-Shingo... I'd say that's the best bullpen in all of baseball.

QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Jul 14, 2005 -> 07:43 PM) The goaltending is sexcellent, I have no problem there. If Thibault is an excellent goalie, I need to find a new game to watch. He's decent, but not, IMO, a goaltender who's gonna lead a team to the Cup. Arny is gone? Who the hell are your sources? I think that Tallon and Yawney both like Arny a lot... Mac and Vandermeer are both solid players. Not top-line defenseman, but both would be pretty good as a second pair. You fail to mention Seabrook, Byfuglian, and Barker, too -- that's the blueline core right there, along with Babchuk (who had his struggles this year at Norfolk, but is still a damn good prospect, and is right on the cusp of staying with the Hawks for good). Tom (8509) has hit the nail right on the head; I agree with everything he has said.

Sizemore looks like an excellent defender. Looks like he gets some real nice reads on the ball. Boy... if there was a Kotsay/Rowand/Sizemore OF, not a whole lot of balls would drop, that's for sure. -

QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Jul 15, 2005 -> 01:50 AM) Gonna see Hafner in the 9th, I'd leave Marte in... I'd rather see Cotts brought in to face Hafner. Marte tends to do a little worse when he comes in for a second inning of work. -
