OFFICIAL: Sox Sign Linebrink - 4 yrs, 19 mil
Rooftop Shots replied to soxbearsbulls's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(Texsox @ Nov 21, 2007 -> 10:13 PM) What is nice about this is on past White Sox scales, this would have been THE move of the winter. Instead it's a small incremental one of about 5 or 6 that may happen. It's a blip past Uribe. I can't get too worked up either way. It's money and draft picks, too things I let the organization worry about. No players are leaving so hey, why not. Good Point. But also, as another post was correct in saying that a bullpen is usually a toss up as to who has career years and who doesn't. Win or lose, you gotta take a chance with something. Bullpen help is hard to come by because most everyone needs it. Kw and Ozzie had utmost confidence in our bullpen at Spring Training time last year, and it eventually died at a quick pace. Win or lose, make or break...................he's got to take some new chances. Remember...Guilleremo Mota was supposed to be a huge impact reliever and so far hasn't lived up to the hype,(People on this board were begging for him) and yet a little while back, Pappelbon comes out of no where and is now untouchable. Maybe my annalogy isn't very good, but the point is, you gotta take chances. Win or lose, KW has to start somewhere. We can only wait and see as time will tell. -

One of my other favorite ones is when Joe Torre was a catcher, and I heard someone name him after a casserole....... "Chicken-catcher-Torre"

Not sure how it applies to this thread since this topic deals with nicknames that were known all around MLB, but a nickname that a lot of Sox fans had when we had Juan Agosto, was Juan Disgusto.

Is Bert camping far away or is Bert Campaneris If you want to lift something heavy out of the water, use Ed's Kranepool Will he drink half of a beer, or will Harmon Killebrew? If your father is named Joe and you are named Duane, doesn't that make Duane, Josephson? Oh No! Did Curt Flood the basemen again? If you like a drawing of a deserted wasteland, will Andy Etchebarren one for you? Need a driver for your armored truck? Get Ed's Brinkman! I see things from one point of view, but Daves Concepcion might be a little different. Man does his girlfriend smell. After eating the chili, Ricks Honeycutt a nasty one!

[/size]Great Job Guys! Keep em' coming! Cracked up at quite a few of them! Here's a few more If Bill can't go, the maybe Jorge Orta go instead. What about Carp and Walleye? Is Steve Trout fishing again? Hey Rich! Dotson of yours is not very bright! Will he floor it or will Julio Cruz? I don't want flat beer, I Juan Agosto! Is that a huge wart on his toe?? No! It's just Scotts Ruffcorn! Is is Roy Rogers turn to towel off a wet soaked Dale Evans? NO? Then who's turn is it? Silly!!!! Today it's "Don Drysdale! " Is that a ghetto Chevrolet? No....it's a Whitey Ford

The idea is to take a basball players name and use it in a sentence or quote in pun form. Examples: 1) A good place to put a trophy is on "Mickey's Mantle" 2) Hey that looks pretty tasty! What is "Adam Eaton?" 3) Not sure which church to go to? Try "Lance' Parrish" 4) Will "Charlie Hough" and puff and blow your house down?

There Used to be a Ballpark Right Here
Rooftop Shots replied to FlaSoxxJim's topic in Pale Hose Talk
It's quite obvious that I enjoyed it a bunch. Not hard to figure out why! Thanks for the post and vid. Really enjoyed it! -
I'll robably get thrown off the board for this "Groaner" but here's what I once went as. I had a black kettle strapped around my neck and it was filled up with bars of "Dial" soap. There was a ten dollar bill attached to the kettle. When people asked me what I was. I said that the ten dollars was for any one who could guess what I was goingas. No one ever got it. You guys got any clues, before you peek at the answer? Answer: I went as a "Crock-a-dial" (crocadile) I read the board qute a bit, but don't post a whole lot. After this answer..........Do I still get to stay on the board?

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Oct 11, 2007 -> 02:00 PM) My son is going as this, when my cub fan loving neighbors ask him what a scary skeleton he is. I am going to tell him, he isnt a skeleton, he is a baseball player from the last cubs world championship team. Still laughing! Man...you really got me on that one. Will definately pass that one on to guys at work.

Colon to DL-How about the Angels
Rooftop Shots replied to klaus kinski's topic in Sox Baseball Headquarters
It's pretty warm in California, and they sweat a lot, so I say that without any "COLONgne" The angels would stink! Sorry! Thought it was time for a "Groaner!!!" -
QUOTE(Jimbo's Drinker @ Jul 23, 2007 -> 04:08 PM) Its obvious they suck, why are u still paying attentio? I'll answer your question the same that I answer some guys at work. I am and always will be and remain a die hard Sox fan. When they win and have a great season, I have the time of my life. If they lose and do poorly, I'll go down with them till the end. If everyone else on the board cannot do the same, I can't but help question of how loyal of a Sox fan that you say you are. As far as what else to watch? Anticipation of what moves take place. (Who leaves, who comes,), Watching upcoming hopefuls such as Charlie Haeger etc, and whoever else they give a chance. Heck, I just love the game of baseball PERIOD, and I'd rather watch and listen to announcers talk more about my home team than watch someone elses home team, and listen to their announcers talk about them all day. LIVE! DIE! WIN! LOSE! SUCCEED! FAIL! I AM A SOX FAN! THEY ARE MY LIFELONG HOME TEAM

QUOTE(diegotony06 @ Jul 1, 2007 -> 09:01 PM) While Buehrle and the White Sox had agreed on a four-year, $56 million contract extension, the deal disintegrated because the Sox won’t give the 28-year-old left-hander a full no-trade clause. In the grand scheme of things, that seems like a ludicrous deal-breaker. And surely, the Sox will budge, right? “No,’’ White Sox general manager Kenny Williams told the Daily Herald in an e-mail Saturday night. “I cannot build a championship team if I do. The short-term and long-term ramifications are just too great.’’ Does this asshole even know what he's talking about!! Last time I looked if your plan is to build a championship team, I would think locking a a solid No.1 starter would be a priority. Especially if you are signing him to a lower than market value contract, and only 4 years. I'm done with this guy. He's an arrogant and pmpous ass!! He reminds me so much of Jerry Krause it's makes me sick. The short and longterm ramifications are just to great?? Give me a f***ing break. This whole situation with Buerhle just makes me realize that our GM doesn't have a clue. That's it KW build a rotation around JC and JV, you f***ing moron!! I could be wrong, but my gut feeling is that the following is the scenario as to why KW won't budge on the NTC right now. KW is pretty well noted for making a huge deal when no one sees it coming. He's been quiet for some time now, so you know that something is brewing. Here's what I feel.............................KW will not go for the NTC because if he signs Buehrle without it, he has a prize pitcher with 70 mil less than what Zito is making. If you have him locked up for 4 years at that price, I'm sure that KW has a "HUGE" deal for him in the wings. (Speculation..... GM "A: says KW....."We'll give you so and so, so and so, and so and so! If we are going to give yo this, we want a guarantee that you'll give us the Zito-stat pitcher with a contract in tact). The deal wll only happen without the NTC. If Buehrle sticks to his NTC and doesn't budge, then KW's HUGE deal is off, and we wind up signing Buehrle with the NTC. Right now, KW may be playing hardball about the NTC issue, because he's trying everything in his power for a HUGE deal to go through. May sound a little crazy, but it does sound like something KW would do. Either way, we'll sign Buehrle. It took too long to build up this fan base. He's NOT going to just let it slip into the toilet overnight. No doubt.......We'll keep Buehrle.......................unless KW can figure out a way to get a bag of extreme goodies or him. Why else would KW make the following statement that was quoted in The Daily Herald?? In the grand scheme of things, that seems like a ludicrous deal-breaker. And surely, the Sox will budge, right? “No,’’ White Sox general manager Kenny Williams told the Daily Herald in an e-mail Saturday night. “I cannot build a championship team if I do. The short-term and long-term ramifications are just too great.’’

A thought came to my mind, but I couldn't find anyone who might have an answer that is on a positive note on my question, so I decided to post it here and see if anyone on Soxtalk could help. I know that there is a lot of talk recently of a "firesale" or "White Flag" etc. My question...............Does anyone know of any MLB team in past years where they had "Blue-chip" type players that whereas their organizations traded them by the July 31st deadline for other high end prospects, or veteran players to fill some much needed holes on their team, ONLY to have it turn around unexpectedly.................and much to everyones surprise............... all the new young players actually helped turn the ball club around and went deep into the playoffs in that same year? I ask this because, I've never heard of a so-called fire sale that wound up in a "blessing in disguise." and was wondering if it ever happened. Just looking for something else to hope in if it all comes down to it. Thanks!!! Rooftop!!

I know he's not a lefty to replace Sisco, but anyone know how he's doing lately? During the spring training, I was hoping that he would make the team because I thought it would be a nice diversion of being able to have him as a way of getting someone out in the middle of nothing but fireballers......especially when our fireballers are all failing miserably. At least Haeger would give opposing batters a whole different look. What's his status lately??

Anybody know what Toronto's Main newspaper is, and a number/address that I could obtain to be able to call in order to purchase a newspaper when he hits number 500? I have over 700 different Frank Thomas baseball cards, and The Suntimes paper when he hit number 400. Also, still have a VHS tape of the game when he hit number 400. Would like to add Toronto's paper when he hits number 500 to the collection someday. I'm sure he'll be on their front cover. Thanks!!!

Going to a school, drawing a box on the brick wall with chalk, and use that box as a strike zone while playng the game of "Fast Pitch" or as some would call it ...."Stike Out" with a rubber ball. Either playing one on one or two against two. Or..............if there were enough guys, playing league ball in the field with "All Fields Open." It was nice to play with all fields open, because if there were not enough guys, right field would be closed, and an automatic out if the ball was hit there. I'm a left handed batter, and guys would get sick of hearing me yell..."SWITCH FIELDS!!!!!" I haven't seen anyone play the game "Strike Out" in YEARS!!!!!!!!!!! A good 20 or more to be exact. Unfortunately..................outside baseball with friends is in the dark ages .........................with inside the home Video game mania taking over the world.

Happy Birthday's Rooftop Shots(48), soxman35(20)
Rooftop Shots replied to southsider2k5's topic in SLaM
Thanks Guys! I appreciate everyone who has made me feel welcome since I first came on board. As far as today goes...........It's been a good day overall. Steak and Eggs in the morning. Good day at work. Pizza for dinner. Read Soxtalk forums in the evening! Winter is on it's way out. Spring Training games start tomorrow. Season opener is up and coming. IT ALL WORKS FOR ME!!!!! -
A neat game that I'm not sure if it's still in print or not is a game called PokerKub. The board is identicle to that of Scrabble with the double/triple letter and word scores for the tiles that are used. The difference? PokerKub doesn't use letters. Instead, it has poker cards for the tiles. The better the poker hand, the better the score. The higher rank in the card/tile, the higher the point value. You interconnect onto others previous plays just like Scrabble.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Feb 21, 2007 -> 08:49 PM) It's basically the first 3 years of a players career before he become arbitration eligible so he is under complete team control and makes right around league minimum. I'm not entirely sure what to call this period of time and 'auto' seemed the most appropriate. Thanks! I'm printing out 5 copies for a few guys at work. Questions that pertain to contracts have come up quite a bit lately.
