QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 28, 2010 -> 04:37 PM) Point is...our #1 guy, the single most expensive player on our roster, has in fact gone down. We can't be in that bad of shape if we can survive that. Exactly. And the sox are just fine with Daniel Hudson stepping in as well. Only problem is how much patience will we have to go through the growing pains in a pennant race.

QUOTE (Lemon_44 @ Jul 27, 2010 -> 10:36 PM) What about Brett Myers? He's been throwing very well lately but he shouldn't command an exorbinant price tag. Geez.. I mention him once early in this thread (before his good game vs the Cubs tonight) now I got you and fathom (in another thread) backing me up with it?! Give credit where credit is due people. In all seriousness, I think he would be a fantastic pickup for a contending team as a 4 or 5 in the rotation. (especially one in the NL) Astros brass however are now saying they don't want to trade him. Google why (I already gave part of why earlier here) and you might shake your head as much as I did. There is a reason why that organization is freaking terrible.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jul 27, 2010 -> 11:37 PM) In my softball league tonight, I ended up ruining my pitchers perfect game when I made a throwing error at 3rd base. I really f***in suck at life. Alexeiiiii...... NO! NOOOOO!!! NOOOOO!!!! NOOOOOOOO!!

Bulls in trade talks for Rudy Fernandez. Could be a very good match. Portland is crazy though if they are still asking for the moon. Bulls draft pick(s) "should" be able to get that done.

Saladino.. I keep saying watch out for this kid. Great Falls put up a sox-like beating tonight. http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/st...idarok_grfrok_1

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jul 27, 2010 -> 07:28 PM) You're a good knowledgeable poster but sometimes I just laugh. At least 75% of you posts have a sabremetric stat in it. I guess I just laugh because there's such a difference in anything you see with the mainstream media ( newspapers and TV) and what you see online from young baseball fans. Him and southsideirish (when he was here) have eerily similar posting styles. Big saber fans (or as some posters like to call em in the past.. saber-dorks. )

I expect Mark Kotsay to be in tomorrow's lineup. Great ass kicking though.

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jul 27, 2010 -> 06:09 PM) I'm starting to get impatient. Just do SOMETHING, ANYTHING to alleviate my crippling trade deadline boredom. Looking at that dot on your sig, I thought my computer screen was broken... or if I was tweaking.

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jul 27, 2010 -> 05:33 PM) The Hawks have been a good drafting team for quite some time now. They've delivered at least 1 starting caliber player in every draft since 2002. 02: Keith, Wisniewski 03: Seabrook, Crawford, Byfuglien 04: Bolland, Brouwer, Dowell, Bickell, Barker 05: Hjalmarsson (and possibly Skille/Davis/Brophey this yr) 06: Toews (possibly Danis-Pepin or Makarov) 07: Kane Beach and Lalonde in 08, Olden, Pirri, Kruger in 09, and the Hayes brothers in 10. They didn't draft Jimmy. Plus I believe Jimmy was picked in 2009 by the Maple Leafs. Hawks just traded their 3rd round pick to get him this year. Alot of people liked how Leddy and Lalonde feed off each other in prospect practice. A scout was quoted they could be the 19 and 20 year old version of Keith and Seabrook in due time.

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jul 27, 2010 -> 04:23 PM) Heh, like that's at all possible anymore, this was the "prove it" season and he's failed miserably, he's hurting himself on every slide now. Haha I know man.. just wanted to take alittle shot at ya for saying you don't buy into Q being injury prone "unless he tears an ACL or somethin" post.. I told ya he was a walking glass. Wouldn't surprise me if he landed on the DL sneezing or something like other players have.

QUOTE (BearSox @ Jul 27, 2010 -> 03:57 PM) I used to be a big Smoak fan, but I've soured on him quite a bit. The guy has absolutely no chance vs. any breaking ball right now. Haha. Ya I remember you were his biggest fan in that 08 draft and lobbied for him. (though there were a couple other posters too) I didn't blame you then or not though.. I still like that kid's upside. Shame hitting at Safeco might kill his power output though, unless he gets a bit stronger. Great plate discipline though.. probably will have around the same BB:SO ratio.. probably more BBs if/when he gets more dangerous at the plate.

QUOTE (lord chas @ Jul 27, 2010 -> 04:32 PM) with pkt on the garrett jones idea pfft... me and fathom (especially me) have been on that bandwagon months ago. Does this thread count if you just mean players as sleepers being traded to other teams? If so I think Brett Myers will be a fantastic sleeper pickup for a contending team in the NL (possibly AL, though he's probably better in the NL) to pick as a #4 or #5. Plus that team is dealing with the Astors GM which you can probably net him on the cheap. Plus, he's a FA (mutual option of 8 million) at the end of the season though I've read the Astro brass wants to bring him back cause of this quote.. "he could be a foundation for future rotations" which doesn't make sense. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jul 27, 2010 -> 04:37 PM) I'm sure SoxAce is right there with you and I think you're all nuts. Haha Kalapse beat me to it.

QUOTE (hitlesswonder @ Jul 27, 2010 -> 03:31 PM) I don't know...Hudson is not a highly regarded prospect outside the Sox system. Looking at your post recently, you are listening to Keith Law (who most here take with a grain of salt evaluating sox prospects) way too much. Not saying he isn't reliable (at times, he knows his stuff) but he isn't the end all evaluator especially considering a so called clouded history with sox management. I overrate Hudson a bit, but I think he will be a solid #3.

QUOTE (BearSox @ Jul 27, 2010 -> 03:40 PM) It doesn't matter if he is sitting the bench for a game, he's become an injury risk for whatever he does now. Every time he slides into a base it looks like he sprained or pulled something and gets up really gingerly. I have no officially gone to the conclusion that if Q gets injured, it won't be because he's playing the field, it'll be because he is just one of those guys who is injury prone. Kalapse disagrees. Hopefully Gavin actually gets run support this time. Sad to see him only with 5 wins when he really should not be at all.

Cavs traded Delonte West to the T-Wolves and the T-Wolves are gonna release him. If he wasn't such a mental and physical headcase and a thug, I would love to have him on our team as a PG/SG. Career 37% three point shooter and a good free throw shooter who plays very good defense even though he's a bit undersized. Having said that little tidbit, I want him as far away from Chicago as possible. Cleveland was close enough for that dude. Also reports indicate Bulls are not sold on T-Mac. I'll let others pull up reports here but after reading them, just sign Mason Jr. (or best case, figure out a way to get Rudy Fernandez, though the Blazers are asking for the moon for him oddly enough) and call it an off-season.

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jul 27, 2010 -> 12:00 AM) http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseb...,6156750.column Articles like this piss me off. QUOTE (hi8is @ Jul 27, 2010 -> 01:01 AM) what a horrible article. Takes so many quotes of out context and wraps them around some illusional reality he's created somehow in his mind. Ugly ugly ugly. Yea it's David Haugh. Doesn't surprise me at all.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 26, 2010 -> 11:39 PM) What did the Angels do wrong? It's not their fault this Dipoto character seemingly has the baseball I.Q. of Rodney Dangerfield. I think he was saying that cause Dan Haren got injured in his Angels debut.

I'll gladly take Teahen to get Kotsay out of our lineup.
-
QUOTE (earthshiner @ Jul 26, 2010 -> 10:26 PM) hasn't he said he hopes to play next year but is letting his play this year determine it? Yes. He said he would come back if he feels he can still get it done (hitting + fielding). So far, it looks like he will indeed be back next year.

5 game hit streak for Ravelo.
-
Buster Posey has a 19 game hitting streak. Man he is just a good pure hitter.. STUD. Hopefully he doesn't have a sophomore slump next year, but I don't think it will be too severe. Dude is just a natural hitter.

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jul 26, 2010 -> 08:54 PM) Jim Joyce was the home plate umpire. That's nuts. Yep. And he gave Garza alot of generous calls later on. I don't think he wanted to be the one to mess it up again. Congrats to Garza though. First pitcher in Rays history to throw one. I would have bet money it would have been David Price, but Garza was my second choice. Of the 120 pitches he threw, 101 were fastballs. That is amazing. So now only the Mets and Padres are the only teams who have never had a no-hitter in their history.
