  1. After Kenny's memo you have to wonder if Pods or Konerko will be back. They were both supposedly on the list.
  2. Awesome write up NSS. I'm wondering why the Sox didn't move Remenowsky up as fast as they moved Hudson.
  3. QUOTE (son of a rude @ Oct 4, 2009 -> 09:44 PM) Plus we get to see offseason fantasy trade suggestions my favorite part about the offseason How about John Danks for Adre Eithier?
  4. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Oct 4, 2009 -> 09:53 PM) Next summer, my home will be a few blocks away from the Sox Spring Training Facility. Of course the down side is not getting to see many Sox season games on TV. Has anyone tried that MLB web streaming package? That's what I might have to opt for. I use it and love it. Nothing beats watching on TV though. The beauty of mlb.tv is you can watch/listen to the game anywhere you have internet access: hotel, grandma's, work, etc. I might splurge and get the tv package next year.
  5. Thank goodness KW is our GM. We'll have a rumored filled offseason that keeps the pulse going on Soxtalk.
  6. We came into this season with alot riding on Fields, Wise, Contreras and Colon. Not to mention aging veterans like Dye and Thome. The team is now younger and we have a legit #1 pitcher with Peavy. If a couple bullpen arms can turn it around and Quentin rebounds then I think we are going to have a studly team. I had the Sox down for 90 wins. http://www.fan-exchange.com/mlb/standingsp...sp?franchid=CHW
  7. I doubt the Sox trade for a rental player (Crawford). I doubt the Sox trade the house for Fielder or Gonzalez. The Sox will sign someone for $7mil or less and put them in the cleanup spot or 5th. Putting all your chips on one spot in roulette is suicide. You are more likely to succeed if you spread your chips around.
  8. Torres is garbage. He topped out at what? 88? Torres=Luis Andujar
  9. I came across this report on MLBTR from Baseball Prospectus. I'd never seen it before so I thought I'd share with my fellow Sox fans. This measures run production with runners on base. http://www.baseballprospectus.com/statisti....php?cid=540930 It shows the number of runners on base for the hitter by base. Shows you how bad our run production was this year.
  10. QUOTE (qwerty @ Sep 29, 2009 -> 08:24 PM) The sox will probably score 10 tonight. LOL. You are probably right. If AJ, Konerko and Dye were in the lineup we would get shutout. Go figure.
  11. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 29, 2009 -> 03:50 PM) I don't know what they did, as I don't work for Don Cooper, but all you have to do is look at his numbers and his peripherals to know something was done. I think Sox fans give Cooper more credit than he deserves. If he "fixes" players then why did Vazquez, Aardsma, Masset and MacDougal struggle for us (by varying degrees) and excel else where? Do you think their fans are saying their pitching coach "fixed" them? Why didn't Sisco succeed with the Sox? Sometimes a change a scenery is all that is needed. Sometimes patience, which our organization lacks, IMO.
  12. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 29, 2009 -> 12:51 PM) And a minor league free agent at that. Really nice find by Kenny, and a great job by the Sox staff of fixing him, and finding the perfect role for him How did the Sox staff fix him?
  13. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 28, 2009 -> 09:42 PM) Disagree. We have those guys. Beckham is a prototypical #3 hitter. Ton of doubles, good (20-30 HR pop), should hit for a very high average, above .300, starting next year. TCQ is a prototypical number 4 hitter; huge power, huge RBI potential. What we're missing is the #5 guy...the lefty RBI guy that you stick in behind them to give your lineup some balance. And maybe the #2 guy, although Alexei and Rios could fill that role if either of them has a good year next year. Or Getz if another leadoff hitter appears. I agree but that is putting alot of faith in a player in his second season and a player coming off a bad season (even though CQ has been injurred). That's why I would like to get at least 1 hitter for the 3 or 4 spot so we don't have to rely too much on CQ and Beckham. Who and how we get them is another question.
  14. The problem with getting Crawford is that you have the same problem in 2010 as you did in 2009, you get a runner on base ('09=Pods) but you can't get him in. Our production in the#3 and #4 slots in the lineup were pathetic. With 6 games left we have ZERO players with 90 RBI! 90!! Not 120, not 110, not 100 but 90! That is horrible. How many times did we have runners in scoring position with less than 3 outs and couldn't get them in? On 3rd base and less than 2 outs and we couldn't get them in? The production on this team sucked. I'm glad Thome is gone. I'm looking forward to Dye leaving and I hope Konerko gets dealt. If Konerko stays I hope he's batting 5th because he sucked and #4. I agree that the money that could be spent on Crawford would be better spent on our #3 or #4 hitter, whoever that ends up being. My favorite Sox cleanup hitter to this day is still Julio Franco. He never hit in that spot before and knew how to get the job done. He only made $1mil too I think.
  15. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Sep 28, 2009 -> 09:37 PM) What is open on this team as far as posiiton players? 3B-Beckham 2B-Getz SS-Ramirez 1B- PK C- AJP LF-CQ CF-Rios RF- I hope Dye returns DH-Pods 1b/RF Kotsay infield-Nix C-Flowers infield ? 12 pitchers The need is more glaring in the bullpen If you look at it from the perspective of the batting lineup and not the fielding lineup, we are missing a solid #3 of #4 hitter. Those two spots killed us (IMO) this year.
  16. If we traded away Konerko, I wouldn't mind acquiring Atkins from the Rockies. He could play 1st, DH and play 3rd.
  17. QUOTE (joeynach @ Sep 28, 2009 -> 07:08 PM) Betemit is not on the roster man, they released him months ago. My bad. I was going back and forth between ESPN (which has active rosters) and Cots (which has contract info but the rosters aren't up to date). Missed that one.
  18. Here is what I have for 2010: Obligated ($68.05) Peavy $15 Buehrle $14 Konerko $12 Pierzynski $6.25 Linebrink $5 Floyd $2.75 Rios $9.7 Viciedo $2.25 Ramirez $1.1 Arbitration Eligible Jenks Danks Quentin Betemit Options Thornton $2.25 Garcia $1 Not Sure Pena Carrasco Williams Pre Arbitration Beckham Getz Nix I'm sure I'm missing other minor league contracts we have to cover.
  19. The thing I like most about Peavy is his attitude. I think the White Sox have had talent the past few years but they lack fire. Buehrle, Floyd, Danks, Jenks, Thome, Konerko, Quentin and Dye are all too quiet.
  20. I can't find the exact quote but KW has mentioned that he wants a DH that can also play the field. I'm assuming he's talking about an outfielder and not a 1B. I think Johnson is good, but like everyone else mentioned he's injury proned. The most games he's ever played in a year at 147 and that was 3 years ago.
  21. Contrera, Linebrink and Colon combined for 26 losses or just under 1/3. Just by having quality 4/5 starters should help some. But then you have to look at how we sucked with RISP
  22. Buehrle and Konerko will never be dealt because they are the faces of this franchise.
  23. Apparently KW isn't as smart as everyone on Soxtalk
  24. Alexei Ramirez straight up. They could put him at 2nd.
  25. This is going to be a fun offseason for Hot Stove fans. If I was KW I would get rid of alot of people and bring in some new blood.
