I wish they would hurry up and find something physically wrong with Dunn, place on the injured list and bring up Viciedo. Surely they can find something wrong with him. Once again he not only struck out 3 times today, but he missed really badly on some pitches. Anything down and in with a wrinkle and he misses by a mile. It is more than embarrassing. When he gets over his hangnail affiction, or whatever, he can try to work out his swing in Charlotte.

QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Jun 29, 2011 -> 07:12 PM) i think the diving catch that saved the game in NY vetoes the boneheaded play last night. I think he just made a stupid mistake (and he's trying to defend it, naturally) but I don't get the impression that he's a lazy guy. Not at all. I agree with this. I think he got caught with his baseball IQ pants down. He should have sprinted to the ball harder, but it never occurred to him that the guy would attempt to score from first. When he picked the ball up, he looked to see what he should do with it. Like 2nd might have been an option, to nail the hitter if he was hustling to turn a single into a double. Simply stupid thinking. And while he is bending over, picking the ball up and then becoming oriented with his eyes, which of his teammates yelled 'HOME, HOME'? We've seen Lilli sacrifice his potential health by diving, ala Rowand into a wall. Nobody has seen any such passion for the team at personnal cost from Rios. Here's hoping that the Rios benching helps this team to catch fire. They sure need to collectively wake up. Rather than finding a way to win, they seem to find a way to lose. Perhaps they have reached a level of embarrassement, that will fuel a turnaround.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 28, 2011 -> 11:35 PM) Anybody finally getting frustrated? I am. Usually hits me at some point in most every game. As most of our games are close. This is maddening. Paulie hasn't squared too many pitches up since his homer streak ended ........ I don't feel too good about this. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 28, 2011 -> 11:14 PM) Blown away by 89 mph fastballs. Seems like he's hitting off his back foot. It really baffles me how screwed up he is mechanically at the plate. I wish he would go back to concentrating on going the other way. The Rockies have zero walk off victories this year. -

QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Jun 28, 2011 -> 10:51 PM) I don't need to see the replay. The "getting to the ball" aspect of things isn't the issue here at all. He got to that ball in plenty of time to make an easy catch. It's the "how does a Major Leaguer get to a ball in plenty of time and then let it hit off the heel of his mitt" that, to me, is both the issue and the frustrating aspect of that particular play. That particular play, I might add, which isn't even a factor in this ballgame in the least bit. The Rockie announcers commented that he appeared lackadasical in the way he looked the ball into the glove. And, to my eye, he didn't put himself into a very good position in the first place, by being content with just getting to the ball. He didn't have to end up reaching like he did. And Ozzie did not look happy after the drop. -

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 25, 2011 -> 06:11 PM) 14-107 a .131 batting average with 51 strikeouts at home for Dunn. Even his biggest detractors would have a hard time believing those numbers. The second strike of his last at bat, on a fast ball down and in ..... I don't ever remember seeing a major league hitter take a full cut at a pitch and miss it by so much. -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 23, 2011 -> 07:51 PM) Sadly though, wins = money Agree in a general sense. But, at least the equation isn't 100% infallible. Otherwise the evil empire would win every year.

QUOTE (kapzk @ Jun 17, 2011 -> 03:10 PM) Certainly wouldn't shoulder that much of the blame on KW. He did his job. If every1 had done what they were supposed to do we would have ran away with this division. But instead its been the opposite. Pierre, Rios and Dunn all have sucked big time this yr, Johnny Danks had a horrible start, and our bullpen blew us a handful of games. So i Don't blame Kenny on this one. Its the players fault, all Ozzie can do is just hope these guys can get out of it. Thats what upsets every1 on this board, which I see as pathetic. Ya Pierre absolutely blows, but I don't blame Ozzie sticking with him. If he gave Rios and Dunn that much time then y not Pierre. Yes we have Viciedo waiting, but getting rid of Pierre or Teahen for that matter is not that easy. I feel there is too much unwaranted blame on the management and coaching which is not deserved. Despite my frustration, I mostly agree with this assessment. The one thing I wish the sox were better at is drafting and developing. Kenny's approach of tweaking the roster each off-season rekindles my hope. I would hate to be a fan of the many teams that stand pat with little hope (i.e. sox of the 70s and 80s). It's a tough proposition, grabbing piesces here and there and having it jell. At least he did pull it off once and for me, a fan for 50 years, it was recent enough that part of me believes he could strike gold again. At the same time, I am not surprised when things don't work. Rios typlifies the problem in capsule form. He was let go by the Jays for a reason. Yet his talent level is such that it would not be a shock for him to have a big season at the same time as other key Sox (Kenny's all in) players - Peavy, Dunn, Pierre .... Mostly I continue to think that the Sox can hang around long enough for these juys to catch fire at the right time. And yes I wish Viciedo was in left and Pierre was not starting so much. And considering the success and failure of all other teams, I grudgingly salute the Twins. -
One of the more maddening aspects of Juan's game is that he can't score anyone from second with a single, because the opposition can play him at little league depth. Viciedo will a positive effect on defense as well as offense, with the strength of his arm and the depth the opposition's defense will have to play due to his power threat.

Why is Vizquel not in the lineup? The best player we have at non-corpseball as far as I am concerned. -
I would tend to make the 44 year old phenom the 2nd place hitter as much as his body will allow. He is not only the best option for hitting 2nd by far, it could be that Beckham might pick up on how it's done. At minimum, get him into 1/2 of the games.

Getz #6, Fields #8 on list of Top 30 "breakout"
ottawa_sox replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 4, 2009 -> 06:57 AM) I think it's kind of relative...not meaning a ranking of those players in order in terms of talent, ability or what numbers they'll put up in 2009, but more in terms of "shock value," players many haven't heard of or don't know much about putting up some gaudy statistics. Fields has been out of the limelight for over a year, so I'm sure many Fantasy League drafters tend to forget about you when you spend an entire year in AAA and a very lousy one at that...of course, if they knew he was injured and studied a little further, it's not hard to understand why some are now expecting bigger things out of Fields than they did 6 weeks ago. He seems to be making better contact, yesterday notwithstanding. I'm hoping the laser surgery is making a big difference too. -
Don't be shy to give a play-by-play. I for one do not have radio or gameday.
