Wow - a 6 run comeback to tie it in the last 2 innings. And without the benefit of our only accomplished hitters - Thome, Kong and Dye. Baseball is just plain weird.
-
Oops. Vlad with an opposite field impale job - one nothing bad guys.
-
Rookie boneheadedness continues. Thome on deck and Owens gets picked off first.

How do get a second members statement to appear in the same post? QUOTE(knightni @ Sep 15, 2007 -> 09:00 PM) hmmm... Gotcha .... thanks.

You missed his hitting effort the inning before, where with a man on second and nobody out, he struck out on 3 pitches and didn't appear to inside out any of the pitches. QUOTE( @ Sep 15, 2007 -> 08:16 PM) Is WGN totally f***ed up for anyone else? Works good for me.

So, I guess this is the game thread? So far 1 run and 1 walk in 5 inning for Contreras. Good numbers. Suggests he is sporting better command tonight. Not that I want to be a party poop and say something nice about one of our starting pitchers. He is dropping down as much as usual? -

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Sep 11, 2007 -> 11:17 PM) Takes a high outside pitch and drives it into left field for a double down the line. Nice swing and he went with the pitch. Thanks. Gotta like that. -

QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Sep 11, 2007 -> 10:47 PM) Why do we give Andy so much s***? He came here when he doesn't belong in the Majors, works hard, plays hard, has an alright approach at the plate, hustles...so he sucks, so what? He isn't, say, a slacker. He isn't hard to root for just because he sucks. Take it easy. Internet message boards breed this type of venomous, personal attack wherever the bottom line (performance)is compromised. It gets beyond tiresome. I don't pretend to know the players and their personal habits very well, but, as an example, I've heard Podsednik works very hard on his conditioning, perhaps too much and is very hard on himself when he feels he has let his team down. I understand people here not wanting him on this team, what with the injuries, lack of power, noodle arm and the prancing. But the personal insults which rail against his integrity and desire to be a worthy contributor make me very sad and (for some reason) somewhat embarrassed. -
QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 10, 2007 -> 10:17 PM) It gets me scared to death about our offseason. Try not to think about Hawkisms. Think of the Buehrle conversation instead.

QUOTE(29andPoplar @ Sep 10, 2007 -> 10:15 PM) Floyd on the hook for the loss now. It's too bad, but of more importance was his performance against a good team on a mission.

QUOTE(winninguglyin83 @ Sep 10, 2007 -> 10:11 PM) I'm simply saying that Fields made a terrible throw on that ball. He bounced it to Gonzalez from medium left field. Because of his inexperience in left field, he looked bad. Different throwing motion from left field than third base. If he is going to play lfield next season, which seems likely, he's going to need a lot of work out there. having him in left and owens in center, teams are going to run, run, run on us. When I think of the arms we have featured in left over the years, I've got to believe Fields will be an upgrade.
-
QUOTE(winninguglyin83 @ Sep 10, 2007 -> 10:04 PM) maybe he just mentioned eckstein because the Cardinals are in town to play the Cubs. hope. our defense is soooooo bad. Fields couldn't even throw the ball to the cutoff man in the infield on the fly. if Crede doesn't come back next season, we're hosed. I really haven't seen many games this year. Are you suggesting Fields has a bad arm. How does a major college football quarterback have a noodle baseball arm?
-
QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Sep 10, 2007 -> 09:46 PM) Floyd has a nice two-seamer working tonight, but I have to say I'm a little dissappointed that his fastball is only topping out at 89 on the Comcast gun. If he pitches another scoreless inning or two, I think he'll actually pass Danks in ERA... Who knows what to think of these guns. Gameday has him topping out at 94.

QUOTE(kwolf68 @ Sep 10, 2007 -> 09:29 PM) Andy Gonzalez belongs nowhere near a major league field, PERIOD. The guy just isn't any good. He'd be a kickass player in the local softball league and can even probably play an average minor league baseball, but the fact he is on our major league team is simply sad. White Sox 2 - Sox third basemen 1

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Sep 10, 2007 -> 08:55 PM) Depends on which direction they go this off-season. If they add a competent SS and CF, then you can get away with having Richar at 2b, batting 9th. If Uribe is still in the lineup in 2008, with Owens some where in the lineup, Utley better be batting 2nd or 3rd. He also has not had a lot of formal instruction, so 'streaky' at this stage might be somewhat forgiveable. With his natural abilities and lots of reps at second, who knows. P.S. I was trying to respond to Fathoms question. Must have pushed the wrong reply button.

Without having the benefit of video, that was a pretty impressive job on Martinez - he goes 3-0 and then retires him on 9 pitches. Only 2 innings in the books mind you, but 6 up 6 down, with 3 strikeouts.

QUOTE(29andPoplar @ Sep 8, 2007 -> 12:25 AM) By the way I am sorry about your fine city losing the AAA team. Yeah ....... it's a real drag. But understandable. After the first couple of years, fans did not show up. No one is able to explain it. Cheap, great entertainment. I think there are just too many options around here in the summer. Cottage country and lakes all over the place, as the main diversion.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Sep 8, 2007 -> 12:15 AM) The 05 offense sucked, the late 06 offense sucked, and the 07 offense sucked. We are 05 champs because our pitching was out of its mind, and the offense decided to hit for a few weeks. In 06, our offense was a juggernaut in the first half, then decided to die. This year, it was a combination of unseasonably cold weather, and something wrong with the way our coaches flipped the cards. I'd hang it on the players being injured and having off years, rather than on the coaches.
