QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 28, 2007 -> 11:16 PM) Molina looked like 5 times the hitter Hall's been this year. I'd rather they just release him this offseason. Surely they have no choice. Bringing him back and chancing this much ineptitude for a second year in a row would be too embarrassing.

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Aug 28, 2007 -> 11:11 PM) That's so bad, they will probably score. Has any position player ever had a worse year than Toby Hall, offensively and defensively? He has to be the worst position player in the majors at this time. And if I heard correctly yesterday, OMIT was recalled by the Tigers.
-
Was the ball that got away from Hall, allowing Young to advance, that bad of a pitch? Gameday makes it look like at least the 3rd pitch that Hall had trouble with that did not look very wild.
-
Wow. That hurts.

QUOTE(southsida86 @ Aug 28, 2007 -> 10:26 PM) Gavin's problem with allowing HRs is that he throws his sinker between the belt and letters of the hitter. He'd pitch a lot better if he kept it down. He hasn't pitched that awful today, he's been decent. Granted, it is against one of the only teams that are as bad as us. That makes more than one starter on this club that is struggling to keep it down. On the surface, you would think this particular problem is fixable.

This doesn't seem fair. They took out their crappy pitcher. Wouldn't it be nice if we could combine both rosters, since their shortstop hits 3rd and their centerfielder hits 4th ......... of course, the pitching would still have some holes.

QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 28, 2007 -> 09:50 PM) Is that 14 homers allowed in 40 or so innings? Close enough. 14 homers in 37 innings. I'd say it's pretty easy to pick up out of his hand.

There's that washed up Thome ...... at it again.

QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 28, 2007 -> 08:53 PM) Floyd's release point almost makes me vomit. It looks like it's so easy to pick up out of his hand. For me ..... no WGN ....... no visuals. He comes straight over the top, doesn't he? You would think this would help him be deceptive, given a reasonable skill at changing speeds. What is it about his release that is makes him easy to pick up?
-
C'mon Floyd. Give us something to hope for.
-
Thome's OBP is .408. The next best on this team is Konerko at .354. Fields currently sits at .294.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Aug 27, 2007 -> 04:21 PM) Assuming he's going to be playing LF every day next season, it would be nice for him to get some experience playing the position in close and late situations. What's the downside to leaving him out there? Setting up a situation where his inexperience costs the Sox a victory ......... something their fragile egos could do without.

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Aug 27, 2007 -> 04:03 PM) Fields must have homered, I can see the fireworks from my office. Golfed one on the inside corner at the knees.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 27, 2007 -> 03:44 PM) And there's the "Yay we werent' shut out" solo shot X3

QUOTE(The Critic @ Aug 24, 2007 -> 05:27 PM) Couldn't f***ing hurt at this point. What's the worst that could happen? Are the Sox going to fall into last pla--......oh, that's right.... Well, at this stage, that's my strategy. Play a bunch of guys named Myers ..... end up with a record worse than what your roster reflects ....... reload with a high draft pick ....... Bob's your uncle.
-
QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Aug 24, 2007 -> 04:38 PM) Thome is a DH only right now. It limits his market. You won't be getting back nearly what he can give you if you trade him. I don't know why giving up the guy who gets on base more often than anyone else on your roster and homers more often per at bat than anyone on your roster for some young unproven guys, when you are still trying to win is such a great idea anyway. Thank you for that.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Aug 24, 2007 -> 04:22 PM) It has nothing to do with negative. I think its stupid to hold onto an aging guy when you can get young talent for him, especially when that aging guy is having more and more injury history. I'm not saying Jim isn't a good player and if the Sox were a piece away I'd say fine, keep him, but they need to get younger and Thome would really help them get some good young talent here (and they still have Dye/Konerko in the middle to help the lineup). Basically put I think given the Sox situation its freaking stupid to still have Thome (and I've been consistent about this). I've got no problem trading him if the deal makes sense. That goes for anybody. It's the consistent low-balling of his talent, mostly because the Sox are so disappointing. If the Sox were winning, we would not be reading all of the 'Thome is washed up' comments. A few days ago someone said 'all he had left was warning track power'. The next day he hit 2 home runs.

QUOTE(ottawa_sox @ Aug 24, 2007 -> 03:35 PM) Is he, once again, trying to get by without his sinker? Can anyone tell if he is throwing it. And if so, is it inconsistent, not working at all .............
-
QUOTE(RockRaines @ Aug 24, 2007 -> 03:28 PM) Wht happened to the Garland who attacked hitters. Is he, once again, trying to get by without his sinker?
-
QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Aug 24, 2007 -> 02:43 PM) His body can't handle a full season anymore and I think that's very clear. He's 37. So it makes sense to give him a day off here and there. My reaction resulted from the multitudinous, infantile, daily Thome negatives that comes more from the Sox downward spiral than any true cause and effect.
-
QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Aug 24, 2007 -> 02:22 PM) Yeah, his days of playing every day or near every day are over. His body can't handle it. The Thome death watch continues on Soxtalk as a stiff neck prompts the veteran player's funeral dirge. WHAT ARE WE GOING TO DO?
-
Take that Joey ...... 36 to go.

QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Aug 21, 2007 -> 10:47 PM) Meyers coming in giving up a hit on the first pitch, then Bukvich coming in giving up a hit on the first pitch. 2 pitchers, 2 batters, 2 pitches, 2 singles. I wonder what Ozzie would have done if the double play grounder on Thornton's first pitch to Gordon had gone for a hit.
-
QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Aug 21, 2007 -> 10:39 PM) hahaha did that really just happen What?
