QUOTE (Brian @ Dec 6, 2013 -> 09:42 AM) You are the first to praise it that I've seen. I'm not praising it. For what it was, a massive live musical performance, it was well done... once again, minus Underwood's bad acting. If not for her acting, it would have gotten good reviews. I think too many people expected this to be movie quality. It's LIVE! They dont have the luxury of setting up lights for every take and camera angle. It's going to look different. it looked... like a stage show. As someone who works for a performing arts center, it looked exactly how I expected it. The audio was pretty solid. A few times they missed turning a mic on, but that's to be expected. moving from scene to seen was pretty solid. A stage show has to find unique ways to transition between scenes, and they did a darn good job. They never hid this was a stage show, they embraced it.- Who willl win the Boras/Jay-Z agent war?
That's a bad bad deal for the Mariners. A. They bid against themselves and overplayed (Yanks were offering 7 years, $175m) B. Cano is 30 years old. Most non-steroid players have a significant dropoff after the age of 35. That's 5 years of potentially really bad money on their payroll.- 2013 TV Thread
The production on The Sound of Music Live was very impressive. Nice transitions between scenes. Solid lighting. Audio is good for a production of this size. Live theater is complicated, on that scale... it's even more so. If you subtract Carrie Underwood's dreadful acting, it was actually a pretty good presentation.- 2013 Films Thread

I wanted to wait until Black Friday to see if Google would do a sale, but I cant imagine it'll be more of a discount than this.- Fictional Affair

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Nov 14, 2013 -> 12:47 PM) Playing the part of the ignorant devils advocate here, wouldnt a stadium in their county create a positive economic impact down the line? There has to be some sort of money that the team will be giving to the county in taxes that will help their financial woes, right? I think there are a lot of variables. Does the county need to take out a loan? If so, how much? What is the length? What's the total they will need to pay back? I think the stadium in Miami is going to cost the city over a BILLION dollars to pay off the loan to build it.- Atlanta Braves to leave Turner Field
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 14, 2013 -> 12:44 PM) Oh, another fun detail. Less teachers, but they get a baseball team, so that's pretty awesome.- Atlanta Braves to leave Turner Field
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Nov 12, 2013 -> 08:53 AM) Its just crazy to me that the Braves are moving 20 years after they built a new stadium. And the media outcry i am reading is more "I cant believe they are moving to the suburbs" more than "i cant believe they are MOVING". Could you imagine if all the sudden the Sox were like "Lease is up, We are out, Rosemont here we come!"? A stadium should have a MINIMUM of a 30 year life. Minimum. When the Sox lease runs out in 2029, I'd welcome them to the NW suburbs (but I am a bit selfish, being a resident of the NW burbs)- Atlanta Braves to leave Turner Field
Stuff like this pisses me off. It's so America to spends crap loads of money and resources on things, then throw them away. Turner Field is still a great park.- Catch-All Anything Thread

QUOTE (chw42 @ Nov 5, 2013 -> 10:22 AM) That's what I'm saying. If you're heavily invested in Amazon services, then go for it. That's literally what the Fire is built for. However, as someone who has around 200 apps from the Play Store, it was an awful experience for me. There's always the option of rooting and installing a custom ROM on it though. Really the only "investment" she has in Amazon is a few books. She doesnt have much of an investment in Google/Play (I think all of her apps are free). But, if she does buy an app, it's nice to know it'll go across both of her devices.- Technology catch-all thread
QUOTE (chw42 @ Nov 5, 2013 -> 10:14 AM) The Fire line has good hardware, but Amazon's fork of Android really deviates from...well...Android. There's no Play Store, so all the apps you bought on your Android phone don't carry over. You can side-load Android apps from the Play Store, but it's a hassle and not everything is compatible. The selection on the Amazon App Store is also limited compared to the Google Play Store. If you're heavily invested in Amazon stuff, then the Kindle's not that bad. If you're heavily invested in Google services, the Fire would be an awful buy compared to the new Nexus 7. I own one and it's a great device. My thought was Nexus with the Kindle app. Seems to make the most sense with regards to felxability. My wife already has the Kindle app on her phone- Technology catch-all thread
My wife wants a Kindle Fire for Christmas. I can get the Fire HD for 169.00. Or, the Fire HDX for 229. But, for $229 I could get a Nexus 7. Thoughts? My wife has an Android phone, so i think it might make sense to go with the Nexus (unless I go cheap and get the Fire HD)- St. Louis Cardinals vs. Boston Red Sox
