  1. QUOTE (sircaffey @ Apr 21, 2011 -> 12:20 AM) There's 2 good prospects left for KW to acquire something helpful. Thompson and Mitchell?
  2. Alright. It looks like we're just going to ignore that I'm going back to the all-star break last year. And not just the start of this year. But that's fine. Thanks, Milk. I thought I was clear. This isn't just about a slow start to this season.
  3. QUOTE (Paint it Black @ Apr 20, 2011 -> 11:20 PM) We went through this last week in some thread and you promptly ignored me http://www.baseballprospectus.com/statisti....php?cid=138323 Carey over from season to season is a bunch of s*** and so is assuming someone sucks because he has started slow in 15 games. Huh? I said since the break of LAST year. Yeah, he had a good first half. But we're talking more than 300 PAs of s*** since then. And I have no recollection whatsoever of "ignoring you" about anything to do with Rios. Then again, I'm a drunk.
  4. QUOTE (Paint it Black @ Apr 20, 2011 -> 11:13 PM) I hate when I assume small sample sizes are the truth. He was the second best CF in the AL last year, but keep being delusional. So Rios hasn't been horses*** since the break last year?
  5. That's not the real fathom. That's his cousin or something. But for real. Yeah, you can always find positives or negatives if you dig deep enough. But all I really care about right now are wins and losses. If we dig too deep a hole it's going to be curtains well before the all-star break.
  6. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 20, 2011 -> 10:20 PM) Cleveland's pitching won't hold up. I'm still not concerned with them. I would normally agree with you. But I don't want to spot any team 10+ games. I don't care how early it is. The Sox look every bit as lifeless since those first two games in Cleveland that they did during last year's start. And I'm rather certain another 38-13 tear is not going to happen this time around.
  7. Well we're about to be 6 games in back of the Indians. I don't know. They can definitely hit. And their bullpen looks the part. If their rotation can be even slightly above average, they're going to be a team to deal with all year.
  8. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 20, 2011 -> 09:57 PM) He hit the ball hard 3 times tonight. Hopefully he builds off of that. I saw the game. And he was definitely unlucky. But you know better than anybody how fed up I am of this dude. KW took a risk. I'll give him credit for that. But the return has not been worth it.
  9. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 20, 2011 -> 09:47 PM) KW got Quentin for Carter Floyd for a broken down Garcia Danks for McCarthy Thornton for Borchard Jenks for nothing and he has the freedom to spend $100 million plus. Call Shipiro a genius but the Indians still suck, and I'm certainly not a KW fan. You kinda proved my point. Those first four were from 2006/2007. And Jenks wasn't a trade. KW has been awful since '08. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Apr 20, 2011 -> 09:56 PM) Masterson for Martinez? The other 4 are obvious, but Masterson hasn't been good with Cleveland and Victor was great with Boston and I'm about 99% sure he was a Type A free agent too. The other two Cleveland got in that trade have been quite mediocre. Honestly, it seems to me that trading elite players away just doesn't work out well and that, instead, you are better off making tons and tons of small trades. You aren't going to get Shin-Soo Choo and Carlos Santana for league average players at all times, but you are giving up very little overall in terms of production and have the ability to add so much more to your ballclub. The only trade of a really good player I can think of that resulted in a big gain for the trading team was the Teixeira to Atlanta deal, and Atlanta gave up a monster of a package to acquire him. I've been a big Masterson fan for a few years. He's been dynamite so far this year and reminds me of Brandon Webb. When your GB% is 60%+, you're going to be just fine. Martinez was expendable due to the Santana ripoff.
  10. I'm getting sick of this underachiever. Now we can see exactly why Blue Jays fans despised this guy. In 275 PAs after the all-star break last year our $12/$13 million dollar a year CF put up a slash-line of .258/.301/.383/.684. I don't have the defensive numbers, obviously. But I think we all know his defense slipped as well. And that's just unacceptable. He's picked up right where he left off last year with a slash-line of .183/.275/.249/.524. And his defense is still subpar considering his physical talents. And he just doesn't appear to leave everything out on the field. Juan Pierre, Brent Lillibridge, Mark Teahen, Phillip Humber. They have no talent. I expect them to suck. Rios is a joke. I really need one of those memory sapping flashy devices from MIB that make you forget s***. Between Peavy, Rios and the Pena trade, I want to pretend the summer of '09 never happened.
  11. Can you be bad and at least somewhat exciting? This is one BORING ass f***ing team.
  12. QUOTE (Tex @ Apr 20, 2011 -> 05:38 PM) We need to start rebuilding right now and follow the Indian's successful model. You're obviously being condescending. But no GM in the central had come close to pulling off as many shrewd (and in most cases straight ripoff) trades as Shapiro since mid-2006. 1: Asdrubal Cabrera for Eduardo Perez 2: Shin-Soo Choo for Ben Broussard 3: Carlos Santana for Casey Blake 4: Justin Masterson for Victor Martinez 5: Chris Perez for Mark Derosa Sure, the Sabathia trade isn't lookin' so hot. And it's still too early to truly judge the Lee trade from their side. But those are 5 terrific trades in a short amount of time. If he had the freedom to spend $100+ million, no telling what he could do.
  13. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Apr 20, 2011 -> 02:48 PM) In 686 plate appearances last year, Daric Barton drew 110 walks. In 3120 plate appearances in his career, Yuniesky Betancourt has drawn 106 walks.
  14. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Apr 20, 2011 -> 02:45 PM) Jose Contreras looks AWESOME at closer. Love that man. I really wanted him back. Not necessarily as a closer. But his stuff profiles much better in the bullpen. He made Braun look stupid just now.
  15. QUOTE (hawksox13 @ Apr 20, 2011 -> 02:23 PM) Just saw that 3B Brandon Wood from the Angels was cut loose. Perhaps the Sox can pick him up and hope he realizes some of that potential that everyone once thought he had. He has to either be traded for or clear waivers, but I'm sure he would cost next to nothing in a trade. With as thin as the Sox minor league system is, you can't really lose with that gamble. Just chopped my other foot off. I am now feetless.
  16. Matt Garza's BABIP must be like .600. His K/BB ratio is Cliff Lee-ish.
  17. QUOTE (flavum @ Apr 20, 2011 -> 01:56 PM) And McPherson is at .314 in Charlotte. Might be a move brewing. Please stop.
  18. QUOTE (T R U @ Apr 19, 2011 -> 10:31 PM) being 10+ games out IS a huge concern being 7-10 on April 19th with Cleveland and Kansas City at the top of the division is absolutely no reason for some of the crap that's going on around here.. There is a difference between voicing logical concerns like the bullpen so far, or how our hitting has gone south and then starting fire everyone threads and the total meltdown that is going on.. No one is saying that you aren't allowed to criticize the team, but people are going to get annoyed with the ones already jumping off the ledge.. and im not saying you are one of them, but come on its very very early to declare a 7-10 start a nightmare.. Well we're already 6 games out. Another week or so of this crap and we could very well be 10 games out. You say don't worry about it because it's Cleveland and KC? Well if a team at any point in the season can put you in that large a hole it's more than likely because they're legit. And it's not like the Sox have exactly shined against either team the last 3-4 years. My bad. 5 games out.
  19. QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 19, 2011 -> 10:29 PM) I mean those games meant nothing because the team was so far out of it. Who cares if they finish strong or not? The team just plain sucked in the second half, right after that great interleague stretch All finishing strong does when you're hopelessly out of it is hurt your draft position.
  20. QUOTE (T R U @ Apr 19, 2011 -> 10:24 PM) You think so? You're telling me that they still would have went "all in" this season had the team finished in the 70's for wins last year? Yeah right.. But it seems like that's what it's going to take. Basically being 10+ games out until we're allowed to be concerned or overly concerned. And even then somebody would probably bring up the '91 Braves or the Rockies of the last 4 years.
  21. QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ Apr 19, 2011 -> 10:19 PM) Rose has been better all season long. I love Paul. But c'mon now. But why act like it's not a debate? Steve goes into convulsions anytime you even insinuate Paul is in the same stratosphere. Even Rowand went suicide bomber crazy the other day.
  22. QUOTE (Melissa1334 @ Apr 19, 2011 -> 09:46 PM) this. (2 weeks into the season lol) well if ozzie should be fired then gardenhire should be fired too, they have a worse record than we do and i dont hear twins fans saying he should be gone because 2 weeks worth of baseball oh and francona too while were at it I don't mind one Ozzie sucks thread. But this is like the third one. lol.
  23. QUOTE (T R U @ Apr 19, 2011 -> 10:10 PM) Well aside that Tampa didn't use a closer tonight as James Shields finished the game, Dunn also just had an appendectomy recently and missed some time which DOES matter.. Its hard to have take peoples posts legit when they make statements that lead you to believe they didn't even watch/follow the game (I.E. Tampa using a closer tonight) Ide be absolutely shocked if Dunn didn't have 35-40 homers and 90-100 RBI's by the end of the year.. this place is going to hell over a 7-10 start, my god Here's the problem: "This place is going crazy over a 7-8 start?" "This place is going crazy over a 7-9 start?" This place is going to hell over a 7-10 start?" At what point are you allowed to be concerned? Do we have to be 15-30 before it's alright to panic? Not saying that anybody is really panicking. I know I'm not. But this team does not have the proven pedigree of the Twins. There's no wiggle room to really say "it's early". Now it is early. And I can easily see this team going on a 15-2 run at some point. But as of right now, the criticism is well deserved. The baserunning and defense has been insulting. That's something that we go into EVERY season hearing those two categories are a point of emphasis. And it's the same crap every year. What happens if Wade Davis shuts us down tomorrow? Still too early?
  24. QUOTE (Melissa1334 @ Apr 19, 2011 -> 09:44 PM) Paul has been nothing special this year or last year. He has one great game and now people think hes the best point guard. This to me is more about hating on rose than praising paul. I dont know why people are doing this but all that you have to do is watch the way this guy closes games and wills his team to victory and its a closed arguement. But I guess everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Nothing special in comparison to his historic (if you believe in stats) '08/'09 seasons. He missed like 40 games in 2010 and was still pretty sick. I can't really fingerpoint this year. But the dude is spectacular. I just can't believe how sensitive some are. I love Rose. But c'mon now.
