QUOTE (jphat007 @ Apr 1, 2011 -> 12:21 PM) I guess I meant good games Halladay is pitching. Therefore it's a good game. -

QUOTE (buhbuhburrrrlz @ Mar 31, 2011 -> 09:42 PM) santos, sale, and thornton having a snowball fight at progressive field http://www.csnchicago.com/03/31/11/Sox-Dra...&feedID=665 I really hope they get off to a good start this year. They better. I'm not asking for 2005 or even 2006. But last year's start would be disastrous on many levels. -

Can't wait. I bought 3 40 ounce Mickeys and a jumbo sized bag of Doritoes for this joyous occasion. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Mar 31, 2011 -> 08:36 PM) I'm with you in that I don't see why people think they're going to be terrible. Obviously, they'll need Zambrano post-meltdown as opposed to how he was prior to it. This is like the only time we ever disagree. I will admit I like some of their young talent, especially Cashner. But they're still relying heavily on guys that are rapidly declining (Soriano, Ramirez) or are just bad (Blake Dewitt?). I think their rotation is average at best. Dempster is solid. Zambrano is a complete unknown. I still think Garza will be a massive bust. Wells? Yawn. And again, I like Cashner. But he'll no doubt go through growing pains. The back-end of the bullpen looks solid. But Wood will, of course, hit the DL multiple times. And their middle relief looks pretty bad. If everything breaks right for them they're probably capable of a .500 season. Anything more than that then something(s) abnormal would have to occur. Like Soriano and Ramirez going 2003-ish or Zambrano reverting back to his 2005-2007 form.

QUOTE (oldsox @ Mar 31, 2011 -> 05:27 PM) I hated both trades right away, especially the Peavy trade. He was hurt at the time, and we inherited that huge contract/ It looked to me as we were solving San Diego's problem, and we gave up pitching prospects at same time. It smacked of Kenny getting out-negotiated. Swisher not so much, but I was looking forward to watching both Sweeney and Gio. I had no idea it would turn out as badly as it did. Trading Gio the second time was disgusting. KW has to be the only GM in history to trade, re-acquire and then trade the same dude. I can't act like I wasn't stoked when the Peavy trade went down. I was. Even with the less than desirable contract. Of course, I thought we were getting an elite #1 SP, something we had lacked for quite some time.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Mar 31, 2011 -> 10:32 AM) Gonzales saying that Buehrle to start April 6 vs. KC, Humber in the pen for now Thank god. The less Humber, the better.

Wow, Pablo looks great.

Kershaw Ks the side.

Getting ready to watch the future 2011 NL Cy take the mound in a few minutes. God I love baseball.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Mar 31, 2011 -> 05:57 PM) Royal trying to take this from the angels. That's Fernando Rodney for ya. Exhibit A as to why save% is overrated.
-
Anybody seen this Peter Bourjos kid run? God damn he's fast. He's got elite WR speed.

QUOTE (ChrisLikesBaseball @ Mar 31, 2011 -> 05:25 PM) Anyone think Axford will still be Milwaukee's closer by the end of May? Geez, it was only one game. He was spectacular last year. I'm sure he's got a decent amount of rope.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Mar 31, 2011 -> 05:27 PM) Ya, if we win tonight and they lose, we're only 2 back of them. Granted, that's still a good amount of ground to make up with so little games left but they're in a tailspin right now so who knows. I'll be elated if we finish with a better record than the Lakers. Does anybody really think San Antonio can match up with LA?
-
QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Mar 31, 2011 -> 05:22 PM) We either gain ground on SA for best record in the NBA or gain separation on Boston. I see. And damn. Spurs have lost 4 in a row. I had just assumed they had best record locked up.
-
QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Mar 31, 2011 -> 04:52 PM) 2 great games tonight, no matter the outcome between Boston or SA, we either gain ground or get more separation... let´s go Mavs! How does a Boston win create any separation?

I have draft regret

QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Mar 31, 2011 -> 04:23 PM) Kinda off topic but what's Miguel Montero projected to be like in 2011? Should I drop AJ for him? Yes. Montero is much better offensively when healthy. Sported an .832 OPS in '09. -
Reds just stole one from the Brewers. John Axford and his horrific looking mustache f***ed up three of my fantasy teams.
-
Yeah, the first round picks have been better. It doesn't get much worse than Josh Fields, Brian Anderson, Lance Broadway and Kyle McCulloch. So there was nowhere to go but up. But the draft doesn't end after the first round. Guys like Mike Stanton, Matt Kemp, Brian McCann, Hunter Pence and Ian Kinsler were not first-round picks. Obviously in a 50-round draft you're going to miss on a lot more picks than you hit on, but you can't just say, "Well, our first round picks don't suck" and call it a day.
-
Still got a pic I cut from the Sun-times the day after the clincher of JD holding both his MVP trophy and the World Series trophy hangin' on my wall. Didn't end well, unfortunately. But he was unquestionably the best FA signing of my time as a Sox fan.

QUOTE (fathom @ Mar 31, 2011 -> 02:46 PM) Kimbrel on the Braves is going to have a monster year. Ridiculous K numbers last season. Where the hell do the Braves find these guys? Man they can scout. Anyway, yeah, his K-rate will rival Marmol's.

QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Mar 31, 2011 -> 06:08 AM) 3 playoff appearances in 10 years when you play in the AL Central and have the largest payroll most years is not what I consider consistently being in it. Plus the Sox have had those deep down years recently. We'll need quite a few breakout season from our prospects to even consider to have any depth in the system, even most of the biggest optimists when it comes to our farm system know that we have very few impact prospects. And I said before, they have improved in drafting, I just don't think what they have done is enough to supplement KW's style. This type of attitude is what leads to the Sox not putting out a consistent contender (I don't consider a 3rd place or lower finish in the AL Central a "contender"). And although that list is somewhat impressive (to be able to find guys like Floyd, Danks, etc) where has it taken us? They haven't even won a playoff series with that team, and only made the playoffs once with the players they've acquired since 2005. Just look at what they had to do with the payroll, they spiked it up to $125 mill to fill holes, and they still don't have depth t many key areas. Wait, you mean the Sox' regular season winning % in comparison to the 80's doesn't tickle your fancy? It's all about October. Not World Series titles. But consistently putting yourself in position to capture said titles. And you actually gave KW credit for one division title he played no part in (2000). KW is 2/10.

QUOTE (Disco72 @ Mar 31, 2011 -> 07:51 AM) So let's compound the problem of having no minor leaguers by crippling the major league roster with ineffective, injured, and expensive starters? That doesn't sound like a great plan to me. Did you read that list? Beggars can't be choosers.
-
QUOTE (Middle Buffalo @ Mar 31, 2011 -> 12:09 AM) Don Mattingly needs to grow the mustache again. I can't get used to seeing him without it. I have a cousin who did the same thing. My cousin hasn't had a mustache for 25 years, and still every time I see him I think he looks odd without it. C'mon Donny Baseball, do the right thing. Dude, I HATE your avy. Any chance you'll ever change it?

Oh my goodness. dan, this was a splendid piece by you. But a small part of my soul died after reading it. This franchise has the nerve to not want to hand out contracts over 3 years to pitchers? This has to be the worst collection of SP talent I've ever seen.
