  1. QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 13, 2011 -> 02:32 PM) Not NBA, but I always thought this was the most amazing 10 seconds of dunks I've ever seen. Still can't believe we won the lotto that year. That truly was the basketball gods way of saying 'Alright, I guess we've torchered the good people of Chicago Post-MJ enough. Here ya go.'
  2. QUOTE (flavum @ Jan 13, 2011 -> 12:52 PM) I wonder if they're kicking around the idea of making Viciedo a corner outfielder. I have a lot of confidence in Morel, and Konerko and Dunn have 1B covered the next 3 years. Might be a good idea for Viciedo to play left or right field this year at Charlotte. They have to be. As he literally won't have a position to play if Morel can prove he can hold 3B down. But from what I've read, it's going to be an 'open' competition. Morel hasn't locked up a thing. If Viciedo can simply not be terrible defensively come spring training and sprays the ball over the place, he'd probably win the job, as they have more invested in him.
  3. I think Balta hates that soundboard the way I hate Juan Pierre.
  4. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jan 12, 2011 -> 11:57 AM) Frank's 1.217 OPS that season is the 18th best OPS of all time. Take out Bonds' 4 seasons on that list and McGwire's 1, and it becomes the 13th best of all time. Of those 13 totals, they came from 5 players: Babe Ruth 7 times, Ted Williams 2 times, Rogers Hornsby 1 time, Lou Gehrig 1 time, and Jimmie Foxx 1 time. You don't fluke your way into a 1.217 OPS. (of course, Bagwell had a 1.201 OPS that season too, but that's a full two spots behind Thomas) I think you gotta give a little love to Julio Franco that season. It was next to impossible to pitch around Frank that year because of Julio's presence. I still remember the headline in the Suntimes when we acquired him. 'Sox hire a hitman'.
  5. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jan 12, 2011 -> 11:50 AM) I'm sure Grant Balfour would not have gotten much more. The Rays know what they're doing though, so eh. It's quite clear to me that the Rays want the draft picks. Otherwise signing Farnsworth over Balfour makes no sense at all.
  6. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jan 12, 2011 -> 10:21 AM) Those are probably the best non-steroid numbers I've ever seen. Albert Pujols hasn't even pulled off a .497 wOBA yet. Bagwell came pretty damn close at .491. But yeah, what Frank was doing in '94 was beyond human. I'll never get over that season. It was one of the greatest years ever and will never know what would've happened.
  7. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jan 12, 2011 -> 12:45 AM) Of course, Cooper has been pretty adamant about having Sale in the bullpen, so you don't agree with him entirely. Sorry, should've been more specific. For 2011, if you're going to start him off in the 'pen, then keep him there. I don't believe in this 'pen, starter, 'pen, starter stuff.
  8. I take it back. lol. LeBron, you are a f***ing asshole. But good for you for leaving Cleveland. My goodness. An NBA team just lost by 55 points. These Cavs remind me of the '99 Bulls. And at least with the '99 Bulls they lost EVERYBODY. This Cavs team lost one player and are now, like, the worst franchise in sports.
  9. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jan 11, 2011 -> 11:23 PM) Man, I used to be one of the more optimistic posters around when I was younger but that changed big time and I became more of an asshole and more negative as a poster for the last few years. I just have happened to love this offseason and you don't(not that you hate it), J4L. You just have very strong opinions as of late and that's going to rub a lot of people the wrong way and you're going to get fired back at. I'm certainly not trying to pick on you and you know I've respected you as a poster forever but I just happen to disagree with you on a lot of what you've been saying lately and just as you have the right to post your opinions, others have a right to argue some of the things that you've said. Thing is, everyone just has to make sure to not cross the lines on personal attacks which has been happening as of late. Oh I know. Or at least I know now. I was never trying to attack anybody personally. A certain poster here pissed me off and I went off, I guess. But I had a nice conversation with NorthSideSox72, who's a really good guy, I explained myself and he explained his and the overall board's point of view and we squashed it. I'm going to try to be a little more constructive with my views and opinions. Doesn't mean I'm not going to criticize the franchise if in my mind I see it's justified. But I had no idea I was offending other posters. Most of my 'negativity' is towards the team. I'm not a brandofan clone. But it's over now. And I can't f***ing wait for the season to start.
  10. QUOTE (whtsoxfan @ Jan 11, 2011 -> 06:12 PM) Cooper has said for the record that he does NOT want to have Sale change mid-season from Starter to Bullpen or vice versa. Sale may be vulnerable to injury because of the mechanics of his delivery. Why increase that chance by making him a starter, ever? http://sports.espn.go.com/chicago/mlb/news/story?id=6002831 Ohman obviously will not help against Miguel Cabrera ,Magglio Ordonez and switch hitting VMart. Hopefully Crain and Santos and maybe Pena will be enough in terms of RH relievers. Totally agree with Coop here.
  11. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jan 11, 2011 -> 06:08 PM) # $6M signing bonus # 10:$1M, 11:$8.5M, 12:$8.5M That's straight from cots. Gotcha. I get it now. I just click the overall team payroll numbers and go from that. I don't look at them individually.
  12. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jan 11, 2011 -> 05:53 PM) How much do you think Blanton is being paid? He gets $8.5M a year for the next 2 seasons. it was a 3 year, $24M deal with a $6M signing bonus and $1M in salary for year 1. Then Cots is confusing me. It has him due 21 million over the next two years.
  13. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jan 11, 2011 -> 05:31 PM) It's $17 million. He's being paid at fair market value for his production. If you get to dump Teahen in the deal and get a cost controlled player back in Francisco, it's not THAT bad. I still wouldn't do it though. So the A's are paying a portion of his salary? Didn't know that. That's still way too much, IMO. I wouldn't touch him. Go with Tony Pena if you have to.
  14. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jan 11, 2011 -> 05:19 PM) Joe Blanton's a 2.5 win starter. If you adjust him to the AL he's probably a 2 win pitcher. That's average, not terrible. He's due over 20 million dollars the next two years. That makes me want to barf.
  15. Ibanez is basically CQ except he's over a decade older. He's been god awful in every aspect of baseball since the all-star break of 2009. Joe Blanton, well, sucks. He's a number 5 starter getting paid like he's a number 2 or 3 starter. Gross. I'd love to ditch Teahen. But not for that package.
  16. What kinda s*** is this? Hell no. I'll take my chances with CQ bouncing back.
  17. QUOTE (3E8 @ Jan 11, 2011 -> 04:40 PM) The Orioles have had an underrated offseason. Between Reynolds, Lee, Hardy, and Uehara, that's conservatively 9 wins worth of additions. Which is more than the White Sox added for much less money (they obviously had more spots to address, though). Even with their pitiful rotation, I think they'll be very close to a .500 team in 2011. I agree with you about the O's offseason. But they've gotta prove it to me. I had them as a big sleeper last year. I didn't think they could win the division or anything. But almost 100 losses? I didn't expect that at all.
  18. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jan 11, 2011 -> 03:28 PM) Looking at the Yankees per the Score this afternoon That sucks. Thanks for the update.
  19. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jan 11, 2011 -> 03:12 PM) A 2 WAR player off the bench would be real nice. Our bench currently comprises of at least 3 possible replacement level players in Teahen, Lillibridge, and De Aza. Vizquel's not too far away from that mark since he can't hit all that well. We've flat got no power off the bench. And that concerns me somewhat. What's the word on Jones anyway?
  20. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 11, 2011 -> 03:14 PM) Mauer is 0/3 against him, Morneau is 1/3 with a walk I appreciate the effort to sooth my concerns. But I still have no faith in Ohman to get them out.
  21. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Jan 11, 2011 -> 03:06 PM) So who backs up Rios? Pierre, and have Teahen play left? That sounds dreadful with Quentin in RF too. I really want Andruw Jones back.
  22. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jan 11, 2011 -> 02:55 PM) Totally. Couldn't that kind of be a bad thing though? I realize that the more talent in the system, the better. But I assume their drafting budget isn't astronomical, and if you have that many high draft picks to sign, you might have to offer certain ones less than they are looking for, which could keep them from wanting to sign with you? I'm no expert on MLB drafting, but that thought just popped in my head, I don't know if its true or not. I don't think so with the Rays. I mean that's the way small market teams have to operate. To invest heavily into scouting and the draft. No team signs every pick. But I imagine their FO knew well before last season that they were going to lose most or all of their key free agents. They have no problem spending on the draft because that's the only way they can be competitive. And I for one still think despite the key losses that the Rays will remain competitive in 2011.
  23. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jan 11, 2011 -> 02:47 PM) Every time he came into the game for the Cubs I knew something bad was going to happen. I would rather have the ghost of Neal Cotts's arm than Will Ohman. You don't gotta tell me this. The Cubs obviously play a majority of their games during the day so I would watch them, hoping they lose, of course, before the Sox game. I have no faith whatsoever in Will Ohman being able to get out Mauer or Morneau in a key situation. I'll hope for the best but expect the worst.
  24. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jan 11, 2011 -> 02:41 PM) Ohman is a f***ing gas can. You will all learn to hate him. lol. I'm trying to be a nicer/kinder J4L, but thanks for saying that for me. I do not like Ohman at all. I'll support him, obviously, because he's a White Sox. But I don't like him.
  25. QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Jan 11, 2011 -> 02:28 PM) OUr offense is going to be stellar in 2011. However, Im still worried about the pen with the uncertainty of Peavy and the decision with Sale. That is why i would love for them to sign Soriano. If Sale starts the season as our closer- who would be Peavy's insurance starter? Harrel? There's a reason Soriano is still on the market. Now he will eventually get signed by somebody. But not for the years and money he and his agent are seeking. And you made me throw up a little in my mouth with the notion of Harrell starting a single game for us in 2011.
