DH Gamethread 2: White Sox (60-45) vs Tigers (52-53) 6:05PM CDT
QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Aug 3, 2010 -> 07:25 PM) 15th rounder drafted 5 or 6 years ago, so basically moreso than poor development this is just a guy with marginal talent to begin with. 1st round. 3rd round. 5th round. Doesn't matter. I give Kenny prospects for being able to pluck talent from other organizations. But this franchise is at the very bottom in terms of drafting, signing and developing their own talent.

White Sox pitching prospects! Unbelievable (I still rather have Hudson than Jackson). But man do we suck at developing talent.

QUOTE (J.Reedfan8 @ Aug 3, 2010 -> 04:54 PM) They have seen 2 World Series titles in the last 6 years. I have no sympathy for them whatsoever. True. But man. Ellsbury, Cameron, Pedroia, Martinez, Beckett, Buchholz and now Youk are either currently on or spent a considerable amount of time on the DL. I actually think they might be the best team in baseball with a healthy roster.

Alexei Best All Around SS in baseball?
QUOTE (Kalapse @ Aug 3, 2010 -> 05:24 PM) Hanley Ramirez has the 10th highest wOBA of any hitter in the game over the past 3 seasons and that's including his ~.350 from this year. There are 8 first baseman ahead of him, a LF and a 3B. The next closest SS is 29th (Tulo). Alexei is ranked 107 out of 131 (tied with JJ Hardy). Hanley's also 9th in batting average and 8th in SB over that same time. He's having the worst year of his career after being a top 5 offensive player over the 3 previous seasons, perfect time to compare Alexei to Hanley. Between '07-'09 only Pujols, A-Rod, Holliday and Chipper had a higher wOBA. I didn't even bother with numbers. I knew either you or qwerty would take care of that. I'm just too lazy.

Carlos Delgado
Are we that desperate? I doubt he'd even be an upgrade from Kotsay.

Alexei Best All Around SS in baseball?
QUOTE (pcullotta @ Aug 3, 2010 -> 04:50 PM) To all of those saying Hanley Ramirez, what does he do that much better then Alexei? Even with his awful start, Alexei has the higher batting average. Doubles are pretty much a wash at 18 to 17, HR's are close at 14 to 11, and I don't think RBI's are very far off (56 to 43) considering Hanley is batting third every day and Alexei has been hitting eighth. Defensively, it isn't even close at this point. Alexei is one of the best defensive SS's in the game while Hanley is one of the worst. So again, outside of being a much more well known player, why take Hanley over Alexei? What does he do better than Alexei? Other then just about every aspect of offense? Not much. Look, Alexei has been fabulous the last two months and change. But that's it. He ain't close to Hanley offensively (2010 has been an outlier for Hanley).

Alexei Best All Around SS in baseball?
QUOTE (tonyho7476 @ Aug 3, 2010 -> 03:30 PM) How good is Hanley defensively? I have not seen him too much in the field. One word: BAD. And there's really no excuse with his athleticism.

Alexei Best All Around SS in baseball?
On no planet would I rank Alexei over Hanley or Tulo. And yes, Alexei is flat killing it right now. But for him to get to that elite level he has to bring it from day 1. He's sucked in April/May every year since he's been here.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Aug 3, 2010 -> 02:52 PM) Haha at least you are willing to admit this (I'm right with you on it as well). I think this is true for just about all of us, but a lot of guys won't admit it. Sober? This is true. Get me liquored up? It's on like Donkey Kong.- Relationship Advice Thread
QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Aug 3, 2010 -> 02:42 PM) Yeah threesomes are cool if it's just two people of the opposite sex you aren't serious with and are looking for some fun, but if you're in a serious relationship/married, that can be a bit messy. So I'd agree with those that suggested you proceed with caution. Forget that. Life is short. His wife made the suggestion. So she's obviously cool with it. Go full throttle with this. I'd be on craigslist right now if it were me.- Relationship Advice Thread
A 3-some? And the third person will be a woman? You better get on that last week.- Relationship Advice Thread
I feel the need to contribute to this stimulating conversation. Will I get married one day? Sure. When? I'm thinking 3.6 seconds before I drop dead. /my contribution- DH Game 1: Buehrle (9-8, 4.15 ERA) v Porcello (4-9, 5.50 ERA)
QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 3, 2010 -> 02:03 PM) I'm so happy we didn't give up Viciedo for a 2-month rental I was more relieved than happy. No prospect, no matter how good, is safe with KW as GM.- DH Game 1: Buehrle (9-8, 4.15 ERA) v Porcello (4-9, 5.50 ERA)
QUOTE (chw42 @ Aug 3, 2010 -> 01:46 PM) With Cot's contracts, FanGraphs, and Baseball-Reference, you are set. Following the game is so much more fun these days. Not that it wasn't before. But I think back to 2005 when Jon Garland was going Cy Young on the AL. I couldn't figure it out. It's like what is he doing differently? He had cut his walks down. But that was about it? All I needed was about 5 minutes at fangraphs to figure out why that was BY FAR AND AWAY his best year.- DH Game 1: Buehrle (9-8, 4.15 ERA) v Porcello (4-9, 5.50 ERA)
QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Aug 3, 2010 -> 01:44 PM) Does fangraphs have a career pickoffs stat? Whenever MB picks someone off I always wonder where he ranks all time and can never find the stat. Not sure. But I'm certain you can find out at baseballreference.- DH Game 1: Buehrle (9-8, 4.15 ERA) v Porcello (4-9, 5.50 ERA)
QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 3, 2010 -> 01:43 PM) I'm trying to avoid going to that site, cause I feel once I start, I won't stop and that will be my bible. Fangraphs, along with the MLB network, are the two greatest things to happen to baseball fans EVER!- DH Game 1: Buehrle (9-8, 4.15 ERA) v Porcello (4-9, 5.50 ERA)
QUOTE (chw42 @ Aug 3, 2010 -> 01:41 PM) Alexei Ramirez is #1 in baseball in Defensive Runs Saved (Plus/Minus) with +22. UZR and DRS don't always agree. You knew chw42 was going to pop up when advanced defensive metrics came up. lol. Which one do you like better? UZR or DRS?- DH Game 1: Buehrle (9-8, 4.15 ERA) v Porcello (4-9, 5.50 ERA)
QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 3, 2010 -> 01:39 PM) Actually I was looking at the wrong stat, as Balta pointed out. Yeah, I just checked. So Furcal isn't even that close. - Relationship Advice Thread
