Man, y'all need to stop. I feel like I'm watching the Oprah show. Rowand, just go for it. We're not teenagers here. You win some, you lose some. Ultimately, all you wanna do is get laid anyway. /J4L

G. Walker: Does he now get credit?
I'll say this much...I give more credit to Greg Walker for this shocking turnaround than Ozzie f***ing Guillen.

Help me before I go insane....
QUOTE (chw42 @ Aug 5, 2010 -> 07:05 PM) I've dealt with these kind of people before. Just ignore them. There's no use getting all mad over people who do not possess brains. And it is also a terrible idea to talk about Mark Kotsay after he just went 3-5 with 5 runs batted in. No it's not. Stacey King would go for 20 points and 10 rebounds every 30 games or so. He was still bad. Just like Kotsay is still bad.

Help me before I go insane....
I know a guy who thinks Reggie Miller was as good as Michael Jordan. There's just no way to deal with that type of stupidity. Like chw42 said, ignore them.

AND THAT'S A WHITE SOX WINNER
QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Aug 5, 2010 -> 05:30 PM) I dont think anyone on here wants any player to actually fail while they are on the Sox, they may feel that a change is best for the team but if a player is batting for the Sox I bet you everyone is rooting for them to do something well. The sum is greater than the parts. Exactly. I hate Juan Pierre. I think he's a mediocre player with exactly one tool. But he's been outstanding the last three months. We wouldn't be where we are without him. If you can help my team win games, that's all that matters to me.

Jenks will Close again
QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Aug 5, 2010 -> 05:10 PM) The blown save was disheartening, but we won True. But you had to use guys that you shouldn't have had to because anything less than a 6-run lead for our closer is not a big enough cushion.

Jenks will Close again
QUOTE (Paint it Black @ Aug 5, 2010 -> 04:57 PM) No. Currently the White Sox are 1.1 games OVER their Pythagorean over/under. Arguably, Ozzie has them playing a bit over their heads. Conversely, the Twins are 3.4 games under. But keep thinking it's Ozzie's fault that his players fail when he gives them opportunities to succeed. I'm sure if Santos/Thornton/Putz whould have blew the game, you would have been sticking by Ozzie, right? Ozzie doesn't have anybody playing over their heads. Outstanding starting pitching, a 3-week tear by CQ and a favorable schedule is how we got back in this. No manager that consistently runs Mark Kotsay out there as his everyday DH deserves credit. Would I be sticking by Ozzie if somebody other than Jenks blew the save? You obviously didn't see the thread I created a couple weeks ago. I've long soured on Ozzie Guillen. 2005 was exactly that. 2005. He's just not that good a manager. QUOTE (Paint it Black @ Aug 5, 2010 -> 05:01 PM) 3 blown saves is sabotaging the season? I'm not defending Bobby here, I mean he has been pretty bad. But seriously, lets turn down the rhetoric down a tad. 3 blown saves in like 3 weeks? Yes. Sabotaging the season. What more do you guys need? Another blown save tomorrow or next week? We've got a f***ing 1 game lead and we have a closer that can't be trusted with a 2-3 run lead, let along a 1 run lead.

Jenks will Close again
QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Aug 5, 2010 -> 04:49 PM) What will it take some of you people to admit this guy sucks? A blown save in game #163, probably. He's already single-handedly sabotaging our season as it is.

2010 MLB Catch-All Thread
QUOTE (smalls2598 @ Aug 5, 2010 -> 03:29 PM) per Rotoworld Kevin Youkilis has opted to undergo season-ending surgery to fix the torn muscle at the base of his right thumb. Youkilis will be in a cast for the next six weeks. So even if the Red Sox manage to climb over the Rays and make the playoffs, he won't be available. The first baseman suffered the unfortunate injury during Monday night's game against the Indians. His absence should mean more playing time for Mike Lowell, who was shopped aggressively at the trade deadline but never dealt. Aug. 5 - 4:16 pm et Ouch.

Jenks will Close again
Jenks will close as long as he's on the roster. I've accepted this. If we win this division, it will be despite Ozzie. Not because of him.

Has Pierre lost a step?
QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Aug 5, 2010 -> 02:54 PM) That's good for just under 75%. I'd say that it qualifies for pretty good, but definitely not elite. Yeah, when I think elite basestealer I think Carl Crawford or Jacoby Ellsbury. That said, it's hard to complain about anything when it comes to Juan Pierre right now.

How can an actual MLB manager continue to justify playing time for Mar
QUOTE (chw42 @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 05:43 PM) It's not a standalone app yet. I'm working on it, it'll calculate an expected BABIP and then based off that, it will spit out a expected AVG, OBP, SLG, and OPS. Maybe I'll port this onto C and make an .exe when I have time. FWIW, it is only good for certain types of players, like guys who have really low BABIPs. Are you a member at fangraphs? If not you should be.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 05:23 PM) I'm still waiting for you to explain to me how, if he is so amazing, he can't hit for s*** away from Coors Field? I can't explain it. But my love is unconditional.

How can an actual MLB manager continue to justify playing time for Mar
QUOTE (chw42 @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 03:26 PM) He doesn't care for things like WAR, UZR, etc. He'll just tell you about how "subjective" UZR is while telling you of his opinions. When in doubt, "Ozzie has forgotten more about baseball than we could ever hope to know." Or "This won't make or break the season." /ranger

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 03:19 PM) 40-year old Mariano Rivera has a 0.91 ERA, 0.63 WHIP, .144 BAA so far this season. All would be career lows. He's to closing what MJ was to hoops. There's just nobody close.

P. Konerko
QUOTE (chw42 @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 12:20 PM) Color me selfish or whatever, but I almost don't want to see Paulie get too many MVP votes. That could mean more money next year to bring him back. I said a couple months ago that I wanted PK back but not if he wants to get paid like it's 2006. 'Problem' is he's having a better year than he did in 2006. So I'm torn.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 11:57 AM) JJ Putz and Freddy Garcia need to be in that conversation at some point. Indeed. But Vlad and Beltre warrant MVP consideration. Neither will win it. That's Cabrera's award, IMO. Even if Detroit finishes third. He's just been too good.

2010 MLB Catch-All Thread
QUOTE (chw42 @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 11:36 AM) I loved what the Red Sox did in the off-season, I really thought they'd be a wild card winner or at least in contention for the WC at this point. I think it was Kalapse that wanted us to take a chance on Beltre. He gave a pretty good analysis on why he wasn't anywhere near the contract albatross he was perceived to be in Seattle. I think he and Vlad have been the two best bargains in baseball this year. But hey, we got Teahen and Kotsay. What more can one ask for?

P. Konerko
I spend so much time stroking other teams' stars, I unintentionally take the ones on my team for granted. But PK? Do people realize this dude has been every bit as good, if not better, than some Albert Pujols guy? He's having arguably his best season at the ripe old age of 34. Tied for 5th in baseball in HRs, 11th in RBIs, 6th in SLG%, 10th in OPS. And for the saber crowd, he's only 5th in ISO power and 8th in wOBA. Don't even have to get into how many errors he saves our infielders. He's been nothing short of amazing and is a legitimate MVP candidate. Take a bow, Paul. You deserve it.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 09:50 AM) I think the Yankees are better (or atleast have a more talented lineup), but I didn't realize how bad their bullpen has been. Mo has been the only reliever worth a s***. I don't know about that. Ortiz has gone 2006 (.977 OPS) on everybody the last three months and change. Then you've got Beltre, who's arguably been the best 3B in baseball, sporting a .937 OPS and .401 wOBA (9th overall). Nobody saw those two having the years they've had. Combine that with a healthy Ellsbury, Pedroia, Cameron, Youk and Martinez, and I think they're better, at least this year. And I hate defending the Red Sox in any manner. But I gotta be real.
