2010 MLB Catch-All Thread
QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 1, 2010 -> 10:23 AM) Vlad is a DH, so no... You almost need Barry Bonds numbers if you want to win the MVP as a DH. Look what happened to Ortiz in 2006. Yeah, I don't think he'll actually win it. Even if he were to maintain this pace. But he's having a hell of a season. He's always been one of my favorite players to watch.

QUOTE (beckham15 @ Jul 1, 2010 -> 10:14 AM) if this is the case i think the bulls will pull the deal off the table since nothing is final right now..... That would be awesome! Strikeout on every FA but bring back elf boy!

NBA Offseason Thread
QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jul 1, 2010 -> 09:51 AM) He probably tried but the Cavs don't have the free money right now to do anything. I don't think they wanted to unload everyone for the possibility of bringing in another max FA guy unless they were assured that Lebron was coming back. In the end there's two major hurdles for the Bulls or Nets (or any other potential suitor): (1) money and (2) his "hometown" connection. To me it's like growing up near Comiskey, being a huge Sox fan, being drafted and playing for good Sox teams, and then being offered to go to a team like the Yankees that could potentially offer you a better chance at a title (but no guarantee) but also a lot less money. I don't think it's a slam dunk that you leave. Lebron doesn't need to play in New York or for a russion zillionaire to make more money. He can do that in Cleveland because he can rule the league from anywhere. I liked Rich Bucher's point that really the Cavs have a pretty simple argument - we've lead the league in wins for 2 years in a row and you were a game 5 away from beating the Celtics. So we're not THAT far away. Resign and we'll work our asses off to get you some additional help. That's a pretty dumb argument. Look at teams like the early 90's Blazers or the Malone-Stockton Jazz or the early 2000's Kings or the Mavs/Suns of the last 5 years. Regular season success and ultimately winning it all are two entirely different things. Cleveland has been exposed not once but three times (2007 Finals) in the last 4 years. Yeah, they can win 55-60 games in their sleep (the East sucks). But they can't contend with the elite. And there's really no legitimate reason to believe they'll be able to get the cast around Lebron required to get to that next step anytime soon.

Adam Dunn Trade rumor thread
QUOTE (soxfan-kwman @ Jul 1, 2010 -> 09:26 AM) Dejesus is a good call. He will add something & I don't know for sure, but he seems like a guy who wants to play on a winner. He appears to want to play for a "winning organization" What do you mean "he appears" to want to play for a winning organization? How do you determine who does and doesn't want to play for a winner?

Am I crazy when I say Mr. Vladimir Guerrero is a legitimate MVP candidate? The numbers are eye-popping: .339/18/68/.383/.580/.962. Not bad for 5.5 million. And has the Ranger front office done a hell of a job putting together that team or what? A combination of excellent scouting/drafting and two amazingly awesome trades (Hamilton for Volquez/Andrus, Feliz for Tex). You look at their roster and other than Michael Young, who's having a great year, there isn't one bad contract on that team. Texas is set up to own that division for a while.

Keith Law's new top 25 prospect list
QUOTE (Ozzie Ball @ Jun 30, 2010 -> 09:02 AM) This thread certainly doesn't describe things as I remember them. Trout was seen seen as very raw coming out of HS with questions over his contact ability. He was compared to Aaron Rowand a lot because he's a grinder who wasn't thought to have great tools (above average hitter, average power). I can't remember anyone saying they wanted Trout. I certainly didn't want him. Since being drafted Trout has obviously exploded, but there's a reason why he was picked at #25. The Sox went for the higher upside guy in Mitchell (despite what the OP seems to think, Mitchell was thought of as the higher upside guy at the time) and I think you have to just call this great scouting/player development on the side of the Angels. Anyway, not sure why I'm posting in here because I do think this thread is ridiculous. Also I hate all the Keith Law bashing. I respect his opinion perhaps more than anyone else when it comes to prospect evaluating. The White Sox system doesn't get any love from him because it doesn't deserve any and it may be the worst in baseball right now. This is shocking to me coming from you. I took you as a White Sox farm system apologist (or is that JPN and scenario? ). You're 100% right by the way.

Keith Law's new top 25 prospect list
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jun 30, 2010 -> 08:53 AM) Trout is tearing up A ball, low A ball at that. While it's impressive, Jeremy Reed and Brandon Allen have been impressive in the minors at higher levels. Lets hold off the superstardom tag. He's probably 2-3 years away minimum. Mitchell looked like he would be with the Sox next year until his injury. Keith Law is a piece of ****, he adored Chris Sale coming into the draft (he had him going 4th overall) and the second the Sox drafted him, he suddenly had horrible mechanics and was a horrible prospect. You do realize that Trout is not even 19 yet, right?

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 28, 2010 -> 10:35 PM) Everytime I think Miguel Olivo is coming down to earth, he comes up with a game like tonight. I'm happy for him. When you factor in defense (he's throw out 52% of attempted base stealers this year), there hasn't been a better all-around catcher in baseball.

2010 Cubs Thread
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jun 30, 2010 -> 04:00 PM) Cubs still can't figure out Dotel & the Pirates. Pitching staff gives up 5 runs in 3 days, yet they still lose the series. Has there been a more worthless trio in baseball, relative to their salary, than Zambrano, Lee and Ramirez?

NBA Offseason Thread
QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Jun 30, 2010 -> 03:11 PM) Yeah, journalism has basically been a myth in this story. It's all about getting s*** to throw against the wall, throwing it, and hoping it sticks. Getting it right is irrelevant, getting it first is what counts. Ugh, LeBatard saying the Heat will not play for the Heat next year definitively makes them a bigger threat IMO. Can I get some of what you're on? I'm serious. I need it. lol.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jun 30, 2010 -> 02:59 PM) Yeah, everyday some new crazy s*** comes up out of nowhere. Seriously, I could write a bleacher report with "league sources" saying that LeBron is a lock to land with the Thunder and it'd start getting reported. We should've been prepared for this. This is the world we live in: Internet, Twitter, excessive media, ect. But I never thought it would get this bad.

Adam Dunn Trade rumor thread
I really wish Jordan Danks was even average at this point. With his supposed defensive skills, he'd be a pretty attractive piece, even if he was having just a so-so year with the bat. We simply have to hold on to Hudson/Flowers/Viciedo.

NBA Offseason Thread
QUOTE (kev211 @ Jun 30, 2010 -> 01:10 AM) Just watched it an I actually enjoyed it. It was refreshing for once to not hear people claiming they know because of their sources but just 4 guys talking it over and coming up with predictions as to what is going to happen. But is that really worth a show? I mean me, you and two other posters from this site can sit around a table and do the same thing. They don't know anything more than anybody else.

Keith Law's new top 25 prospect list
QUOTE (thxfrthmmrs @ Jun 29, 2010 -> 11:44 PM) http://insider.espn.go.com/mlb/insider/col...&id=5338763 Keith Law is putting out his updated top 25 prospect list today, and to no one's surprise, no sox prospects were on it. Realistically, I think Hudson is pitching like a top 40 prospect this season, but Law might not even have him as a top 100. Though he didn't include any white sox in the top 25s, he didn't waste the opportunity to bash our new 1st rounder Chris Sale. Here is what he has to say about Sale. Of all new draftees, he has be bash on Sale, not that we even expect him to be on the top 25 (Harper and Taillon wasn't on it either). What a jerk. But what I am really mad about is the number 3 prospect Mike Trout of the Angels. Supposed he was on the Sox radar going into the 2009 draft and many mock drafts have him going to the Sox. But the Sox went ahead with a safer college choice in Jared Mitchell. Trout was regarded as a better prospect going into the draft. What a difference a year makes, Trout is looking like the best player in the minors with .370 BA and over 1.000 OPS as a lead off hitter. He is closing in on 40 SBs and we are not even in July yet! Crazy right, and he is still 18 years old! Mitchell on the other hand has yet to play a game this season and still has a long way to go till he reach the bigs. I guess one of the main reasons the Sox passed on Trout is the fact that he might be a tough sign as a high school player. But it really frustrates me that we are passing on top notch talent to go with safer ones. I think we haven't drafted a high schooler in the first round since Kris Honel in 2001. Your criticisms would hold a lot more validity had Mitchell not gotten hurt and was presently underperforming. We simply don't know what we have with Mitchell yet. With that said, Trout is definitely a monster and obviously if you could do it over again you take Trout. I'm much more disgusted with the Phegley pick. Puke!

QUOTE (Brian @ Jun 29, 2010 -> 09:25 PM) I'll probably watch it tomorrow when nothing is on. I think Simmons is pretty smart when it comes to the NBA. That's fine. I'm just saying don't expect to know anything more than you do now after watching.

QUOTE (Brian @ Jun 29, 2010 -> 08:53 PM) I REALLY hope we don't give Joe Johnson a max deal. ANyone watch the Free AGency Summit at 6:30 on ESPN with Wilbon, Simmons, Korn, and Lebatard? I DVR'd cuz of softball. Don't waste your time. The show was a joke. It was just a bunch of guesses and their personal reasoning for why they believe each guy will end up where. Nothing of any substance at all.

The history of the Soxtalk Whipping Boy
QUOTE (knightni @ Jun 29, 2010 -> 09:09 PM) If anything, he's been over-loved. Other than the early season cock-stroking by a few members of the board, I'd say Podsednik has hardly been "over-loved."

QUOTE (scenario @ Jun 29, 2010 -> 05:44 PM) Kenny is already on the record as saying Sale's changeup is better than either Buehrle's or Danks' right now. He also said Nick Masset's stuff was just a "tick" below that of Bobby Jenks.

QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Jun 29, 2010 -> 02:34 PM) well everything probably won't shake out until next week anyway, but some of the reports starting Thursday are going to be priceless, every breath one of those guys take is going to be analyzed and I bet we have a few "false" reports before things are finalized I know nothing will be decided by Thursday. But I think a lot of the stuff we start hearing then will be MUCH more legitimate than the crap we're hearing now. I mean this is f***ing ridiculous right now. It's sad the kinda world that we live in (i.e. I f***ing hate the internet, especially f***ing Twitter).

Paging Kenny Williams
QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jun 28, 2010 -> 10:15 PM) That guy is both a tool shed and a tool. He might have the best package of talent of anyone in the game, he just can't put it together. I'd still love to have him, stupid or not. He's one of like 10 guys in baseball that can hit .200 and yet you have to play him everyday because of three premium skills he does maximize (speed/arm/glove).

QUOTE (kev211 @ Jun 29, 2010 -> 01:32 AM) Wade owns that city theres no way Lebron is top dog there. He may be the best but Wade will always be the most loved. That's a decent point. But if it's about being "most loved" then the Cavs definitely have the upper hand there.

QUOTE (kev211 @ Jun 29, 2010 -> 01:24 AM) After thinking more about it I just still continue to think that there is absolutely no way Lebron goes to Miami and plays second fiddle to Wade. Well let's not go that far. Lebron would be the best player. But not by much. I'm a lot more worried about Lebron staying in Cleveland than going to Miami.

QUOTE (sircaffey @ Jun 29, 2010 -> 01:06 AM) Except the Bulls also have Deng and Gibson. The Bulls will actually have a decent bench. The Heat would have the worst bench ever. Not to mention there would be countless nights that Lebron wouldn't be the best player on the floor. Remember, we're talking about "The King" and "The Chosen One."

QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Jun 29, 2010 -> 12:41 AM) Wade vs Rose & Noah is the question if you assume LBJ and Bosh are going together and the rest of the rosters are going to be a bunch of D-leaguers Lebron is obsessed with Michael Jordan and to a lesser degree Kobe Bryant. Yes, he wants to win. But he does not want to win with Wade. Would MJ's legacy be the same if he had won 6 rings with Hakeem Olajuwon? Nope. Kobe had to win a title without Shaq before he entered the realm of all-time greats.
