Draft Preview: High School Hitters, Part 1
QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ May 3, 2010 -> 06:28 PM) Yeah I was screaming for Scheppers at the time as well, but that clearly was a money issue and not talent evaluation. Everyone knew Scheppers had the stuff to perform well. True. I should've mentioned that in the post (I did a few posts later). Doesn't make it anymore acceptable.

Draft Preview: High School Hitters, Part 1
QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ May 3, 2010 -> 06:10 PM) The last 2 drafts I loved the Wsox 1st round choice and than later in draft getting guys like Danks/Thompson. It's every other round they need to improve upon, despite Morel's success from all accounts he was a super overdraft at the time and I personally hated the Phegley pick since an unproven bat to go along with questionability if he can play the position longterm. Hopefully they continue their success this year and we dont get any Broadway/McCulloch like that last mock draft has them taking. QUOTE (DirtySox @ May 3, 2010 -> 06:13 PM) I absolutely hated the Phegley pick. How nice would Scheppers look in our system right about now? Here's hoping we spend some money on the draft this year. http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?sh...5&start=375 Post #379

A Royals Acquisition that May Make Sense
Unbelievable. KW needs to be on the phone right now and gauging what kinda package it would take to land AG.

Juan Pierre loses leadoff role
QUOTE (Kalapse @ May 3, 2010 -> 06:08 PM) I think he'll finish around .280/.325/.345/.670, his ISO could very well be lower than .065. There's just no way he's "done" at this point in his career but he Cell is just one of the worst parks imaginable for his game, not a lot of room in the outfield for balls to fall in front of outfielders or squirt past them in the gaps for hustle doubles or cavernous gaps to pick up triples especially compared to Dolphin and Dodger Stadium, unfortunately he's not strong enough to take advantage of easy homeruns available at the Cell. Bingo. fathom was the first one (first one I saw anyway) that brought up the park factor. And your season line is more than reasonable. I wish we had a better option. It sounds like I'm advocating Pierre for the lead-off spot. That's just not the case.

A Royals Acquisition that May Make Sense
QUOTE (greg775 @ May 3, 2010 -> 05:59 PM) Why despicable? Alex Gordon has been injured ... a lot. The Royals didn't set it up for him to get injured. Nobody in KC would be worked up if KC dumped Gordon to some team. I wouldn't be against trading for Gordon, only if we could get rid of Teahen in the process. And as far as the shot at Pods, he's healthy and would have given us a much better lineup the month of April than power puff Pierre gave us. I'm not blaming them for his injuries. That wouldn't make any sense. But how is it that a team that's finished 256575475477547324724287432874 under .500 the last 15 years justify not giving a supremely talented player every opportunity to develop at the major league level?

Draft Preview: High School Hitters, Part 1
QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ May 3, 2010 -> 06:01 PM) If he really is injured then i imagine signability won't be a huge issue. Well how injured? lol. That's a pretty big deal.

Draft Preview: High School Hitters, Part 1
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ May 3, 2010 -> 05:58 PM) It has suffered due to a combination of his performance and an injury. I could see him being available at #13. Any signability concerns (i.e. will we stop being cheap and actually spend some money on the draft)? Because I'd jump at the chance to take him at #13.

Juan Pierre loses leadoff role
QUOTE (gatnom @ May 3, 2010 -> 05:57 PM) 2003 was a long time ago. He probably will end up in the .290 range, but that still doesn't mean he's a very good baseball player. Thanks. That was very much appreciated. I didn't know that JP offers nothing outside of BA and speed.

Draft Preview: High School Hitters, Part 1
May I ask how exactly Ranaudo's stock has slipped? Not disputing this. I haven't followed too much college baseball this year. Drop in velocity/stuff? Performance? The latter wouldn't bother me nearly as much as the former would.

KW issues ultimatum
QUOTE (Princess Dye @ May 3, 2010 -> 05:44 PM) Kenny is giving the team a month. Whether this means a month til wild salary dumping, that is unclear. Maybe we'll see if AJ's developed trade value through multiple years of (fairly) incident free play and high OBP for a catcher. Developed trade value? I don't think a 4-game stretch in which he recorded 6 hits to raise his average to .192 did much for his trade value.

KW issues ultimatum
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 3, 2010 -> 05:39 PM) What does it say? Twitter, Fecebook, Myspace, youtube, hulu.com, etc. are blocked in CHINA by the "GREAT FIREWALL." Basically play better or else. Nothing earth shattering.

Juan Pierre loses leadoff role
QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ May 3, 2010 -> 05:28 PM) He also has no value on this team if he's leading off. He does if he's hitting .280, let alone .300. I mean it's really that simple. JP is a career .301 hitter in 6064 career plate appearances coming into this year. He's hitting .202 this year. Has he declined so much over one 6-month off-season that his average has dropped 100 points off his career mark? I'd say hell no.

Draft Preview: High School Hitters, Part 1
I'd be all over Austin Wilson. I'm 100% about tools/projection/upside. If I ever hear the words "safe" and/or "polished" in the same sentence as a White Sox draft pick ever again I will commit suicide by gargling broken glass.

Juan Pierre loses leadoff role
QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ May 3, 2010 -> 05:05 PM) He does have value for the team if he's leading off. It's negative value. You don't lead a s***ty guy off, because his skill set or contract warrants it, you do it because he can get on-base and set the table for the rest of the offense. Screw his contract. It wouldn't matter if he was playing for free. There's just no better option. 'Lexi? Rios? Beckham? This is an incredibly flawed roster. The best bet is that Juan can become at least 80% of what he's been his entire career (not that he's ever been that good. but he's never been THIS bad).

Juan Pierre loses leadoff role
Like it or not, JP has no value on THIS team if he's not leading off. There's just no better option. Blame Ozzie/KW for the construction of the roster until you're blue in the face. It's just fact.

A Royals Acquisition that May Make Sense
QUOTE (iamshack @ May 3, 2010 -> 04:34 PM) Gordon dominated the minor leagues. He certainly wasn't rushed. But now that I think about this more, and read that blog that Lillian posted...man, what an idiot Dayton Moore is. Chris Getz is never going to be what Alex Gordon is capable of being. You're not going to win s*** this year. So why the hell do you care if Chris Getz hits even .50 points higher than Gordon if you are effectively ruining Gordon's chances of ever fulfilling his potential in a Royals uniform by sending him down? "The Plan" is a f***ing disaster. I'm thinking there's something more to this. This just doesn't make a shred of sense. I'd keep an eye on this situation over the next couple weeks.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 3, 2010 -> 04:18 PM) Then they need to get his mechanics straightened out before people start legitimately comparing him to Alex Gordon. lol. Seems like you've got a hate on for Alex Gordon.

A Royals Acquisition that May Make Sense
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 3, 2010 -> 04:22 PM) Another thing that might be worth considering... Are the Royals ruining careers by rushing kids to the big leagues too quickly? Kinda like how we rushed Beckham? And I don't think the Royals rushed Gordon at all. He spent his entire first professional season (130 games, 576 PA's) at AA and lacerated the league to the tune of .325/.427/.588/1.016. The way they've handled him the last two+ years has been despicable.

2010 MLB Catch-All Thread
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 3, 2010 -> 03:23 PM) ? It depends on the person and on the issue, sometimes. Becksy's swing is clearly screwed all to hell right now. I'm not saying sending him down would be the end of his career. But considering all the hype (something that I was concerned about anyway) surrounding him coming into the season, a trip back to AAA would be kinda disheartening.

Royals vs Sox 7:10CST Start WCIU TV
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ May 3, 2010 -> 03:11 PM) Since you don't think lineups matter, you'd be ok with something like this? Paulie Kotsay Pierre Teahen Ramirez AJ Beckham Carlos Jones Flip Kotsay and AJ. I think it'd be better to have our two fastest guys hitting 1-2.

2010 MLB Catch-All Thread
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 3, 2010 -> 02:47 PM) Gordon Beckham's career minor league numbers are .322/.375/.522/.894...and I think sending Beckham down is probably the right move if he can't get his mechanics together in the next couple days. If GB has to be sent down to AAA then it might be time to re-evaluate.

A Royals Acquisition that May Make Sense
QUOTE (greg775 @ May 3, 2010 -> 03:03 PM) Alex Gordon is a big, flat bust. We don't want him. Unless we can trade Teahen for him straight up. My god. He's no Scotty Pods. That's for sure.

A Royals Acquisition that May Make Sense
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 3, 2010 -> 02:45 PM) Y'all can say the Royals have screwed around with Gordon all you want, He's had nearly 1400 major league PA's and hasn't shown me flashes of being a top level talent. He looks like a fringe major leaguer. You're kidding, right? He's shown plenty of "flashes." That's not the problem. It's overall consistency and staying healthy. Take a good look at the talent in the White Sox organization. You're telling me we shouldn't jump at the chance to get this guy were he to become available?

A Royals Acquisition that May Make Sense
QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ May 3, 2010 -> 02:48 PM) Eh.. maybe other moves would be made to fill the hole at second base and in other spots. I'm sure they would. So you're just going to assume we'd somehow be able to fill the gaping hole at 2B that trading GB would create just because, um, because you're sure they would?

A Royals Acquisition that May Make Sense
QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ May 3, 2010 -> 02:03 PM) For Adrian Gonzalez? If he signs a long term deal with the White Sox? Yeah it does. Glad you agree with me. The idea of Jayson Nix becoming the everyday 2B does not appeal to me. Nor does the idea of committing 25+ million to one player on a team with as many holes as the White Sox.
