QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Feb 1, 2014 -> 10:05 AM) The Nets grabbed only 17 rebounds in Friday's loss to the Thunder, setting a new NBA record for fewest rebounds in a game. Not many rebounds to collect when Durant/Ibaka shoot a combined 22/24. -

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jan 31, 2014 -> 08:56 PM) Ibaka is playing ok too... Ibaka > Harden Harden is the better player. But with KD/RW, he was a luxury. Ibaka was/is a necessity and they extended the right guy. -

QUOTE (Jake @ Jan 30, 2014 -> 08:53 PM) In terms of teammates stealing one's scoring potential, I wouldn't so easily discount the Westbrook effect. Shaq in LA - 18.5 FGA/G Westbrook, last 3 seasons - 18.2 FGA/G Then again, Shaq has a big advantage in FTA/G at 10.8 to 7, which shows that he often had the ball, tried to shoot, but was hacked. Of course, Shaq was no point guard. Kobe had the ability to keep the ball from Shaq but the inverse wasn't all that true. Throughout Westbrook's career, his propensity (or perhaps lack thereof) to steal shots from KD has been hotly debated. Seems like only these types of conversations evoke the "Shaq holding back Kobe's scoring" debate when the opposite debate was going on when they played together. Not true at all. Watch that video and listen to what Bob Costas and Doug Collins are saying about Kobe (the highlights are sick, too). Kobe was more than capable of leading the league in scoring as young as age 21. -

Oh, and I'm totally off the Kyrie Irving bandwagon. His handles and commercials are nice. But the Cavs have sucked for three years running now. He's just a great fantasy player at this point. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 30, 2014 -> 08:37 PM) 99-00 shaq ? No, but Durant seems like a long ways ahead of 20 year old Kobe too. 2004 Shaq when they were all kinda collapsing? Well, he's not. Durant was a rookie at 20, no? He was on an awful team and had the freedom to f*** up, take dumb shots, etc, and didn't have the LA media to deal with. Kobe, at 19 while coming off the bench, played well enough to make the all-star team as a starter (yeah, fans are dumb) and had people comparing him to Mike. Kobe's game was advanced as all hell by the age of 21 and 28-30 ppg would've been a cinch if not for Shaq, Phil and the triangle. Durant playing with Westbrook is not even in the same galaxy as Shaq holding Kobe back individually. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 30, 2014 -> 07:29 PM) 2k5s should have been directed at you. I don't get it. Are we comparing Westbrook to peak Shaq? If so this is the last post you'll read from me because I'm going to kill myself with rat poison. -

QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 30, 2014 -> 05:56 PM) It's hard. Kobe's numbers also rely on a few years of not giving a s*** about getting his teammates involved. That 2006 season was insane for his rebounding and scoring, but yeah. So maybe with KD. Are you serious? In '06 and '07 Kobe was running with Smush Parker,, Chris Mihm, Kwame Brown and Wite, I mean Luke Walton. He had no choice but to fire away. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 30, 2014 -> 05:59 PM) I was thinking of going this way but then I looked at the stats and found that KD has already picked up 3 scoring titles and is on his way to a 4th, by the age of 25. Kobe only had 2, at age 27-28. Yes, Kobe had other guys around him, but 4 scoring titles at this age is something to behold. If he keeps going and peaks in 3 years like Kobe's numbers did, we could be talking a guy with 8-9 scoring titles. I have no problem with anybody who says Durant > Kobe as a scorer. But please don't use scoring titles in any way whatsoever as an argument for Durant. Kobe spent the first 8 years of his career playing second banana to Shaq O'neal. That is a BIG deal. Kobe easily racks up scoring titles well before '06 without Shaq. -

I'm so glad LeBron/Durant have each other to measure themselves against, get motivated for, etc. MJ is the GOAT. But imagine if he had an equal or damn near an equal? He had nobody to push him to even greater heights. -

QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 28, 2014 -> 10:17 AM) Man, I tell ya, complaining about Rose getting injured and saying he won't recruit never gets old. I feel like he is the new Frank Thomas. Even MJ acknowledged that he needed Scottie. Rose needs to realize he needs 1 1/2 stars (think Gasol and then Odom before crack) to win a title. -

Anthony Davis has 15 blocks in his last two games. For those that have seen a lot of Joel Embiid, is he a better prospect than Davis was at Kentucky? -

QUOTE (Boogua @ Jan 26, 2014 -> 10:18 PM) There are still rim protectors though like Hibbert or Howard. I think Mourning would be just fine, but who knows. Mourning also played as recently as 2007-2008 when he averaged 1.7 blocks per game on 15 minutes per game. He was 37. The two previous years he averaged over 2 blocks per game at around 20 minutes per game. Oh don't get me wrong. Mourning would be just fine today. I was just saying that bigs (mainly centers) have more responsibilities defensively than they did in the 90's or even 10 years ago. Shaq, for instance, would have to lose some weight to hang defensively (he'd obviously murder everyone on offense). QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 27, 2014 -> 07:59 AM) I haven't recently caught any versions of the Bulls/Knicks from the early 90's, but when I catch the repeats of their games against anyone else I'm still stunned watching the Early 90's Bulls teams at how far beyond everyone else #23 was athletically. MJ was ahead of his time by atleast a decade or so. You had Drexler and Nique, but other than those two, nobody was even close. QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Jan 27, 2014 -> 11:33 AM) Disagree strongly. You have zone defense now which stops guys from getting into the paint, not George or Iguodala. Allen would be a great defender in any era. But it's ridiculous how you can pack the paint and play the passing lanes all day long. It's how Larry Hughes made his money. He was an awful one on one defender. And Joakim Noah > Mourning? Really. That's a friggin joke. How can you watch the Bulls in the Thibs era and say something like this? Zone is there and used at times. But defensive schemes in general are just better. Thibs changed the game defensively. The Pacers have copied his style and they're stetting records on defense. The Heat, when they're focused, are one of the best defenses we've ever seen. Nothing to do with zone. It's their scheme and their freakish athletes (mainly LeBron and Bosh). Mourning is a better shotblocker, sure. Everything else, I don't know if Mourning could do everything that Noah does today. -

QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 26, 2014 -> 08:56 PM) Agreed. Also blows my mind how bad the tv feed quality was. It was pathetic. Bob Costas was going on and on about how Derrek Mckey was limited athletically/lateral movement wise but was still such a great defender because he knew how to utilize hand-checking. GMAFB. Paul George, Tony Allen, Andre Igudala without handechecking >>> Derrek Mckey with handchecking. Defense should be played with your feet and should be about challenging shots. Also, bigs had no responsibility back then other than to stay in the paint and challenge short shots. Now you have to be able to cover the pick and roll, cover the weakside and challenge long-range shooters (love, Anderson, etc). Joakim Noah > Alonzo Mourning defensively -

Oh, I was watching a Pacers/Bulls from the '98 playoffs. Ratchet as all hell. All slow as s***, no fastbreaks, everybody defending with their hands and fists and wrestling in the paint. That is not basketball. That's lame ass wwe s***. Late 90's/early 2000's ball was just terrible. I'm so glad they cleaned that s*** up. We're lucky as hell today and we don't even realize it. -

You hate him because he's the main component keeping your team from winning a championship. I get that.
