  1. QUOTE (Melissa1334 @ Dec 5, 2009 -> 03:28 PM) well lets hope so because we really need one. i dont want to go into the season hoping* for teahen to produce, for cq to stay healthy and produce, for rios to bounce back, for beckham to continue where he left off, too many questions,we need that big bat. sure matsui or vlad can help but we need an even bigger bat Even if we do get that big bat, we still need all those things you mentioned to happen to be an above average offense.
  2. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Dec 5, 2009 -> 02:13 PM) Some mocks already have Benn going 16 or so, so there is a very good chance that he gets picked in the first round. He's an elite talent. Scouts can easily see that. He's been wasted for 3 years due to inept QB play and just a bad offense overall since he's been here (well, not including the rose bowl year when we had Mendenhall).
  3. QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Dec 5, 2009 -> 08:56 AM) Kobe > 'Bron. Not really. Actually, not at all. Lebron is a better player than Kobe now. Has been for about 3 years. But I will concede there's nobody more dangerous in those type of situations than Kobe.
  4. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Dec 5, 2009 -> 03:35 AM) http://blogs.bulls.com/chicago_bulls_blog/...vs-victory.html When this guy says you're being a clown You're being a clown. Apparently, LeBron took the low road and said Noah was just mad cause he can't help his team. One of these day's I hope the clown gets put in his place, and this makes me happy, because I don't want him anywhere near the team next year. You don't want Lebron anywhere near this team next year? Um, OK.
  5. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Dec 4, 2009 -> 04:23 PM) I would not do the deal either because Alexei happens to be one of my fav players and Uggla costs more money, but in talent alone, I think Uggla is the better player. He hits more HR's. Great. Alexei is better at every other facet of baseball.
  6. Very impressive piece. And this is an interesting site. I pretty much get all of my minor league info from BA. But I'll definitely be peepin' this site in the future.
  7. QUOTE (soxfan3530 @ Dec 4, 2009 -> 09:37 AM) has alexei fallen so out of favor on this board that people would consider giving up danks/floyd and the missle for the likes of Dan Uggla???? Don't put one person's TERRIBLE trade proposal on the entire board.
  8. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Dec 3, 2009 -> 05:39 PM) Cunningham reported to be one of the pieces, along with Inoa. Dont know how reliable that source is. EDIT: Looks to be a false rumor. Now seeing this being reported: According to ESPN Chicago, the Cubs have traded Jake Fox and Aaron Miles to the A's for RHP Jeff Gray, RHP Ronny Morla and INF/OF Matt Spencer. I was about to say...lol
  9. QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Dec 3, 2009 -> 04:14 PM) For the Sox to be really pursuing this, things must be at a total standstill with Pods' people. If the price is right this could be a good idea. You can go after a real DH then.....and keep Beckham as the fallback plan for leadoff hitter. Pagan versus righties...over the last three seasons .308/.364/.456 As I said, he'd be a quality backup. If Angel Pagan is your starting CF you're in trouble.
  10. QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Dec 3, 2009 -> 04:10 PM) Yeah but he's a backup to a million dollar ball player, right? I've looked at his numbers... he didn't do that bad as a back up. Maybe he just needs a starting job to prove how good he can be. He could have a break out season on the southside. His line (BA/OBP/SLG) from 2006-2008: .259/.316/.406. He had a decent year last year (aided by a really high BABIP of .352). But I wouldn't count on him repeating it. And the Sox are aiming really low if they are.
  11. QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Dec 3, 2009 -> 03:40 PM) Looks like he had some fairly impressive #s playing part-time last year. Impressive for what he's been in the past at least Maybe due to lack of sample size he's someone who can be had affordably He's a backup. He wouldn't have played nearly as much as he did how Beltran not gotten hurt.
  12. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Dec 3, 2009 -> 03:24 PM) Reports are the Chisox might be interested in picking Pagan up from the Mets and have him play CF. Thought on this possible move? Angel Pagan as a starting CF? Hell to the no!
  13. QUOTE (docsox24 @ Dec 3, 2009 -> 03:10 PM) I agree with this. We need some significant offensive upgrades to be a serious contender and not let the excellent starting pitching go to waste. I think Hudson's value is at his highest point and now is a great time to deal him. I have no problem dealing Hudson. It's when people start throwing Danks and Floyd out there that doesn't make a whole lot of sense. As you said, let's not waste excellent starting pitching. Hard to do that when you're trying to trade it.
  14. QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 3, 2009 -> 02:53 PM) Probably not a smart thing to go back into Cuba now, eh? I have no idea what I was thinking. I saw 'Viciedo' in the thread title and automatically assumed it was something recent.
  15. QUOTE (chw42 @ Dec 3, 2009 -> 02:33 PM) Saito signs with Atlanta. $3 million for one year. How many old relievers do the Braves need? Seems like a very good deal, definitely one we could have offered. Wagner/Saito for 1 year each at 10 million total is solid. Assuming both are healthy, they'll be just fine in the NL.
  16. QUOTE (JorgeFabregas @ Dec 3, 2009 -> 02:29 PM) From the thread title and the url, I gather that the video is from when he played in Cuba before he defected. Then I'm a f***ing idiot. I thought this was a recent video.
  17. QUOTE (Cubano @ Dec 3, 2009 -> 10:48 AM) I wanted to post this long time ago, but it is better now than never. http://cubanballplayers.blogspot.com/2009/...at-in-cuba.html Holy s***! Is that really Viciedo? He looks great. And when I say that I mean he looks like he's dropped some weight. I'm thinking at least 20 pounds.
  18. QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Dec 3, 2009 -> 10:49 AM) If we really are low on cash, part of me just wants to acquire a great bullpen arm and then just go to war with what we have (I suppose with Pods or Thome). Would be really nice to let the starters have some security. Giving them consistent/legitimate run support definitely would qualify as "security." And with our lineup as currently constructed, that won't be the case (although rebound years from CQ/Rios/Alexei would improve the offense dramatically).
  19. QUOTE (chw42 @ Dec 3, 2009 -> 10:26 AM) He hasn't played 3B since 05. I don't know how the Phillies came up with this plan... And the Raul Ibanez contract ain't lookin' like the bargain it was after he fell off considerably in the second half. That's the 'danger' when you're in win-now mode.
  20. Wow, this potential move wreaks of epic fail for the Phillies. 3 years, 18 million for a 34-year old to play a position he hasn't played in 4 years? Glad it's not us.
  21. QUOTE (Pants Rowland @ Dec 3, 2009 -> 09:11 AM) To me, Danks at 24 is still a work in progress that is only going to get better. He had a tough rookie campaign. The league had him figured out and then he adjusted and put up a very impressive 2008. He pitched a ton more innings in 2008 than 2007 and the scouting reports on him became more precise. Hitters adjusted again and his 2009 was a little weaker than 2008, but just a little. I anticipate a stronger Danks in 2010 and another adjustment on his part. If the Sox had one game left in the season and it determined whether they make the payoffs or not, I would start Danks over Floyd, Buehrle and possibly over Freddy if his arm is not 100% (I have not seen enough of Peavy to make that choice just yet). You're obviously basing this off of John's spectacular performance against the Twins in the tiebreaker game. And as good as he was (he was filthy), it was just one game. Jake Peavy is without question the best pitcher on this team. You always goes with your best in a do or die situation (unless circumstances out of your control dictates otherwise).
  22. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 3, 2009 -> 07:22 AM) I remember all the anger that came out of this board when Jim Thome was the Sox DH. Then I read about all the suggestions for his replacement and LMAO. Someday you will come to the conclusion Jim Thome was a fine DH, and the guy that succeeded him, if KW takes advice from this board, was a huge downgrade. Yeah. I think some people wanted Thome gone and somebody else in simply to see something new. Unless he came ridiculously cheap, I want no part of Jake Fox.
  23. QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Dec 2, 2009 -> 08:35 PM) If John Danks and some prospects at their highest value stand in the way of one of baseball's elite players in both offense AND defense, you deal him. Danks rejected the deal Floyd signed last year and went out and regressed in ERA, BB, Ks and served up almost twice as many HRs last season. Gonzalez is a premiere offensive player, a Gold Glove defender and has a very reasonable contract going forward. He's EXACTLY what the Sox need now and for the next several years. That is a trade you make yesterday. No, it's not nearly as simple as you make it. One, when you're trading for a player like AG, you do it with the intention of trying to put yourself in a better position than you would be without him to win a championship. Trading away Danks AND Hudson leaves us with a rotation of Peavy, Buehrle, Floyd, Garcia, ?. Our top 3 is obviously very good. But who knows what will get from Freddy? Yeah, IF he's reasonably healthy he should be about league average. But he's made a whopping 23 starts over the last 3 years. What happens if/when Freddy goes down? Then you have two GAPING holes in your rotation. With nobody even close to major league ready in our system (remember, your scenario has us trading Hudson), we'd be, well, f***ed! And this idea you have that John's "regressed" is rather silly. Yeah, his '09 wasn't as good as '08. But the dude is 24 freaking years old. He hasn't come close to touching his ceiling.
  24. QUOTE (qwerty @ Dec 2, 2009 -> 04:24 PM) To be fair thornton is 33 while on the other hand howell is merely 25. A case could be made for howell. I don't want to be fair. I like seeing Wite get dusted.
  25. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Dec 2, 2009 -> 04:17 PM) Blake hasn't had a good week up to this point. And I accidentally deleted the post. So let me say it again.... Kalapse just pwned Wite. Yes, sir.
