2009 AL Central Thread
QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Aug 23, 2009 -> 09:46 PM) So, I was at the A’s-Tigers game today. Fantastic seats, right behind home plate. The Coliseum is an interesting structure, big block of concreate on the outside, very bare bones for the most part, but the actual playing field is monstrous and quite cool. The game was fantastic as Tomko managed to shut everyone but M-Cab down, and Porcello and a couple of the Tigers pitchers got their socks rocked off by what was essentially, the Sacramento River Cats. Also nice to see the A’s help the White Sox out. Doesn't matter when we're losing 2/3 at home to the Orioles. We've been 2-4 games out of first for almost a month now. It's looking more and more like the Tigers will win this thing by default.

2009 Cubs thread
QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 23, 2009 -> 11:23 AM) Cardinals are now up 8 games on the field in the NL Central, and their schedule is pretty damn easy the rest of the way. They have 3 games remaining on the road this year against teams over .500. Chris Carpenter should be the NL Cy Young winner as well. QUOTE (Brian @ Aug 23, 2009 -> 12:36 PM) You could see a split vote between him and Wainwright or they could share it. Timothy Leroy Lincecum begs to differ.

Draft Signings
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 17, 2009 -> 11:34 PM) He is also going to command eight figures and above. There is no way we put that into a starting pitcher right now. Yup. With the 4 guys we have right now and Hudson making a mockery of the minor leagues, I'd say the last thing KW is worried about is starting pitching.

Official 2009-2010 NFL Thread
QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ Aug 17, 2009 -> 02:55 PM) Yes the WRs are going to be a big problem.... I get so sick of hearing Lovie, Turner and Angelo constantly spewing the company line of "We like what we have." No you don't. You just have to say that.

QUOTE (DonkeyKongerko @ Aug 18, 2009 -> 03:36 AM) Gregg out. I guess 12HRs in 56IP was enough http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseb...0,2154939.story He's been some kinda awful lately. He makes Linebrink look somewhat decent. Lou doesn't have too many appealing options right now. Marmol's sporting a mind-boggling 8.31 BB/9 (not to mention he's beaned 11 batters). Grabow? Yuck. I guess they can give Guzman a shot. But who takes his place?

Happy Birthday Y2HH & Palehosefan
QUOTE (Palehosefan @ Aug 16, 2009 -> 12:59 AM) Ha, thanks Bob. Hope you are doing well. I'm still waiting on that church template :-P. Happy B-day to one of my two favorite posters on this great site (that gay Rowand44 guy is my other favorite). You're the s***@Palehose. I actually don't hate NC as much as I would if I didn't know you.

Draft Signings
QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Aug 14, 2009 -> 03:06 PM) Our overall pitching depth didn't take much of a hit IMO. Peavy will be a big upgrade over Richard and DCarter is a long way off given the organization's comments about his changeup. Russell had improved but was still facing a numbers game given the Pena acquisition and the amount of good right-handed relievers in the upper levels of the system. The real loss IMO was Poreda because it seriously weakens our lefty reliever depth. The closest lefty we have is probably Leesman in Kanny now. Justin Jones looks like he's committed, so it will really help if we can get Morgado to ink on that dotted line. We should be targeting young LHP both in next year's draft and also in trade over the offseason. I agree with most of this. Still, you want to keep the pitching pipeline flowing at all times. And other than Hudson, there isn't much of anything to get even remotely excited about in the system right now. You never know when an unforeseen need could arise. And the way pitching is valued (or overvalued) it's important to have as much 'quality' pitching as possible. Even with guys like Carter a ways away from the Show, he was still a major reason we were able to acquire a proven ace like Peavy.

2009 Cubs thread
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 14, 2009 -> 02:13 PM) One thing I will say is that the Cubs are real good at beating up bad pitching, which as a Sox fan, I wouldnt take for granted since the Sox seem to have difficulty a lot when facing bad pitchers Even with that, I have no doubt in my mind we'd be at least 15 games over .500 in the NL.

Draft Signings
I never thought we had a chance at Goodwin. And with Danks, Mitchell and Thompson in the fold, he's not much of a loss. Morgado, Jones and Williams are the guys we really need to get inked (two of three would be more than acceptable). I obviously have no problem with the Peavy trade, but our pitching depth took quite a hit. We've got to replenish ASAP.

2009 Cubs thread
QUOTE (Melissa1334 @ Aug 14, 2009 -> 01:36 PM) the pirates are reallly bad...4-0 cubs . then they sweep the pirates and the cubs are great again I think after getting mandingoed in their assholes by the Rockies and Phillies the last week that most are starting to realize they truly are a below average team. But yeah, I'm sure after they feast on the equivalent of a AA team, much like they did when they swept the mighty Nationals, that some will declare them a contender again. Personally, I've already dismissed them.

Uribe walk off
The NL wildcard is shaping up to be a pretty exciting race down the stretch between two pretty good teams (by NL standards). I think I read that the Rockies were something like 42-18 since Jim Tracy took over. And the Giants have the top staff in the game.

Top 5 Bear Games to attend
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 13, 2009 -> 05:24 AM) whaaa? The Packers went 6-10 last year (the Bears 9-7), and the Packers lost 7 games by a touchdown or less, and 5 games by a field goal or less. The Packers were one of the unluckiest teams in the league last season. The main reason they will struggle - assuming they do - this season is that they are switching to a 3-4. I have to agree with you. I think Bears fans are setting themselves up for some serious disappointment if they think just adding Cutler makes us one of the elite. To be honest, I wouldn't be shocked if the Bears finished third in the NFC North.

Podsednik is bad at baserunning
I'm one of about 5 Pods fans on this board. And even I can admit he's fundamentally retarded.

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 11, 2009 -> 09:40 PM) Brad Lidge is awful this year. There's simply no middle ground with him. He either looks like a HOF or a replacement level player. That's been his career in a nutshell.

8/11 Games
QUOTE (CSF @ Aug 11, 2009 -> 08:16 PM) Freddy with 9 K's through 6. And Nevin has given up 5 runs through 4 innings for Kanny. I'm still pretty high on him. But Nevin's been rather unimpressive to this point.

Harden perfect through 5. He's really dealing right now. Just struck out Howard, Ibanez and Franciso all on swinging strike 3's.

White Sox Acquire Alex Rios Off Waivers
Oh, and can we ban anybody from this point on that ever has the audacity to call this franchise cheap again? Whatever merit that might've had during the off-season has been emphatically obliterated with the additions of Peavy/Rios.

White Sox Acquire Alex Rios Off Waivers
QUOTE (Capn12 @ Aug 10, 2009 -> 06:21 PM) It doesn't bother me in ANY way when anyone on this team does well. Hell thats kinda what I want daily. But I still think his 'value' to the 2005 team was a bit overexaggerated. I'm plenty happy as to the performance this year, and if we can bring him back at a decent deal for next year, I'm all for it. Fair enough. Not trying to start any trouble. Just an honest question.

White Sox Acquire Alex Rios Off Waivers
QUOTE (Capn12 @ Aug 10, 2009 -> 06:16 PM) No, was just based on overhyped abilities that people thought he posessed. I've been fairly tame concerning it this year, its been mostly hard to argue against what he has done this year. That's kinda my point. You come off as if it bothers you when he's doing well. Thus saying "it's hard to argue." As if you want to argue but you simply can't.

White Sox Acquire Alex Rios Off Waivers
QUOTE (Capn12 @ Aug 10, 2009 -> 06:06 PM) Resign Pods (yes that hurts me to say) to play LF, Rios in CF, CQ in Right next year whilst not rushing Danks2 up. I like it. I've always wanted to ask you this. You seem to have a genuine dislike for Pods that goes beyond his on-field performance. Why is that?
