  1. I love it. I didn't even want to comment on the topic before now because I was afraid of being disappointed. Alex, like CQ and Floyd, seems like the ideal 'change of scenery guy." The talent is undeniable. You just have to marvel at the masterful job KW, Rick Hahn and CO. have done in just two short years in regards to upgrading the talent on the big club and restocking the farm. We were a f***ing mess in 2007. Now look at us! I'm not sure what's going to happen this year (I think the Tigers are going to win the division), but this team is in prime position to own the AL Central for the next 3-5 years.
  2. QUOTE (knightni @ Aug 7, 2009 -> 04:47 PM) What's PPR? Point per reception.
  3. QUOTE (daa84 @ Aug 8, 2009 -> 07:28 AM) I'll put this here, and i'm obviously not complaining cuz im still pretty happy with quentin...but chris carter is #1 on the baseball america hot sheet and is raking this year .333/.430/.560 with 19 HR He's been on some kinda run the last 3 weeks. I'm probably in the minority here. But I'd rather see top prospects that we trade away succeed (as long as it's not for a division rival). I think it adds legitimacy and credibility to your system. I'd imagine it'd make it a lot easier to make trades when teams know that players that originally come through your system have a high success rate. That's why it boggles my mind that Kenny is able to swing as many deals as he does. The guys we end up trading do next to nothing at the ML level. But I ain't mad. Keep doin' yo thing, Kenny!
  4. Oh, and I prefer NOT to be in a league that does PPR. I think it's a ridiculous stat (much like holds in fantasy baseball). Thanks.
  5. QUOTE (knightni @ Aug 6, 2009 -> 02:48 PM) Check out CJ Wilson last year. Joe Borowski and Todd Jones also say hi. And I think it's safe to say Cliff Lee likes the NL. What an amazing trade for the Phillies. Amaro Jr. should probably get GM of the year.
  6. I know the pitching match-up clearly favors us. But I don't feel too good about this one. We seem to always lay an egg when going for a sweep.
  7. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 6, 2009 -> 06:31 AM) Oh yeah that Floyd guy. ERA under 4 now. He's been incredible the last 2 1/2 months. He's having a better season than last year (which is kinda shocking considering his ERA stood at 6.54 on May 22nd). He's proven all the Sabergeeks wrong, and he's totally justified the faith the organization showed in him with the 4-year extension.
  8. QUOTE (joeynach @ Aug 5, 2009 -> 11:58 PM) OMG the sox beat a pitcher they haven't seen before Heard Chris Rongey on the post-game show mention the Sox are 7-2 in their last 9 games against pitchers they haven't seen before.
  9. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 6, 2009 -> 06:05 AM) What is the value of a 23 year old starting pitcher with 800+ innings who has already proven himself to be one of the top 10 starting pitchers in the league? I'm not sure that's a trade that's ever been done. At 23 years old, it's very hard to gauge the value of Felix, and the Mariners apparently felt that wasn't enough. I can't blame them for not taking it, especially when they plan on competing in the next 3 seasons. FWIW, both Bard and Buchholz are older than Felix, and Bowden and Reddick aren't much younger. You're right. I was looking more at the quantity than anything else (not to mention the fact I've got a crush on Daniel Bard). The only pitcher on the planet I'd take over Felix right now is that freak in Frisco. The package would have to be OVERWHELMINGLY stupid for the Mariners to trade him. Something that would almost make the Bedard trade look decent.
  10. QUOTE (almagest @ Aug 4, 2009 -> 11:17 PM) The great Jarrod Washburn wasn't so great today. Looks like the media praise for this deal was perhaps a bit short-sighted. Only took one start to come to this conclusion? And Brian Matusz is going to be a good one.
  11. Hard to imagine the Mariners landing a better haul than what the Red Sox were proposing. Buchholz, Bard, Bowden and Reddick would've been an amazing package.
  12. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Aug 5, 2009 -> 01:47 AM) You have no clue how much I love you right now. I thought he was a clown at first. But you know what, he's kinda growing on me. I like him. lol.
  13. QUOTE (danman31 @ Aug 3, 2009 -> 05:57 PM) I went to Bourbonnais today. Cutler throws really hard, but the WRs mostly suck. Pace looked really good in one on ones with the D line. Chris Williams looked absolutely awful. Is he hurt or something? I can't imagine an outside lineman being that slow. I keep reading conflicting reports. I've read exactly what you said. That's he's gettin' his butt whooped. And I've read the exact opposite. That's he's flattening guys like pancakes. Either way I've got a feeling the RT experiment is going to be a bust. The guy was drafted to play LT. He profiles much better as a LT. I know Pace is here now. I still question whether he's really got 'it' or is he just a name at this point.
  14. Neftali Feliz made his ML debut last night. 2 IP, 0's across the board with 4 K's. I've tracked him for a while now. Saw him actually pitch for the first time in the Futures game. What he did to the A's last night was pretty criminal. His stuff is as good as advertised. Fastball routinely hit 99-101 MPH. A sick power change at 90-91 MPH. I know he has a solid curve as well. I guess they're gonna start him out in the 'pen with the idea of making him a starter next year. For all the talk of how awful the Bedard trade was, you don't hear as much about how the Rangers completely swindled the Braves in dealing Teixeira for Feliz, Andrus, ect.
  15. I didn't think it was possible. But somehow, someway, somebody has managed to overrate Gordon Beckham. Congratulations.
  16. Yeah, no doubt some of your older guys around here have gone through some pretty depressing times/years compared to the 30 and under group. I became a fan in 1991. And the only years during that time for me that I can honestly say were unbearable were 1995 and 2007. As part of the 'younger' crowd (just turned 26), I can honestly say we've been pretty spoiled. You'd never know it as much as we complain around here. Sure, we only have the one title. And I for one starve for a stretch in which we're in the playoffs year-in and year-out (something like the Angels of the last 7 years). But we've certainly not had to go through anything remotely close to what Royals and Pirates fans have had to endure for the last 15 years.
  17. This was pretty random. Anyway, I'm over it (looks like I was wrong about Young). He sucks. Brian Anderson sucks. Javy Vazquez is a good NL pitcher. The end.
  18. QUOTE (longshot7 @ Aug 3, 2009 -> 08:37 PM) As much as I hate Detroit, they don't suck. When we overtake them, and we will, it will be because we were better. Not because they suck. Yeah, they're definitely flawed (like us). But all the "suck and "horrible lineup" talk isn't justified at all.
  19. And Baez was lookin' filthy up until that at bat. Oh, well. Don't expect much help from the Orioles.
  20. QUOTE (WhiteSoxfan1986 @ Aug 3, 2009 -> 08:02 PM) Randy Wells dominating again, even though it's against an AAA lineup. What the hell is it with the Cubs and these career minor leaguers who come up to the majors and do so good? Wells, Fox, Soto have are all older players who were never really prospects (Soto wasn't until his monster year in Iowa two seasons ago). Soto has already been exposed. Wells and Fox have no real long-term value (Fox may as a DH in the AL, Wells is just a total fluke). And Willy Taveras is just f***ing bad. He got off to a decent start. But wow! He's awful.
  21. QUOTE (knightni @ Aug 3, 2009 -> 08:01 PM) I remember in 1997 with Roberto Hernandez, we went through Bill Simas, Matt Karchner, Bobby Howry, Keith Foulke, Tom Gordon, Damaso Marte, Billy Koch, Shingo Takatsu and Dustin Hermanson before we got another good closer in Jenks. In fact, there was a deluge of semi-questionable closers prior to Bobby Thigpen like Bob James, Ron Reed, Dennis Lamp, Salome Barojas, Ed Farmer, Mike Proly, Lerrin LaGrow, Jim Willoughby, and Dave Hamilton. Yup. People better be careful what they wish for.
  22. 2007 was probably the worst season I've ever had to endure as a Sox fan. Even as we struggled post-strike through the end of the 90's, we were still a highly entertaining team to watch (Frank, Robin, Durham, Belle, Cameron, Baldwin, Sirotka, Maggs, Lee). 2007 was awful in every way imaginable. Old, slow, unathletic. No young talent to speak of at the major or minor league levels. But one crown jewel was thrust upon us due to the natural disaster that was 2007: A man named Gordon. Gordon Beckham. The same Gordom Beckham that I didn't think was ready for primetime. Again, that's why I'm posting on a message board while others get paid to do the real work.
  23. I'm definitely in. Head-to-head. And I'll commish if needed.
  24. Thanks, guys. It was a crazy ass weekend. I feel absolutely horrible, though. Everybody here should know by now how serious I am when it comes to healthy eating. I was f***in' maxin' over the weekend. Pizza, crazy bread, wings, nachos, chocolate milk. Yikes! Gotta lot of work to do this week to burn all that crap off.
  25. QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Jul 31, 2009 -> 04:20 PM) I thought you were done with this team? Find a quote anywhere of me even implying I was done with this team and I'll never post again. There's a difference in thinking the team is not good enough to win and should sell off some parts in an attempt to get better, or just saying I'm simply done with the team and will never cheer for them again. You don't have to drink White Sox flavored kool-aid 24/7 to be a fan.
