RotoWorld Suggests White Sox should sign Jim Edmonds
QUOTE (lostfan @ Mar 16, 2009 -> 08:33 PM) Still, wake me up when Young actually does something statistically significant at the plate besides hit a few homers. As I said before, Young is flawed. But if it takes you more than a tenth of a second to determine who you'd rather have between he and Anderson at this point, well, I don't know what to say. And let it be known that I'm not at all claiming Brian is a bum and will never amount to anything. I was one of his biggest supporters during his really bad rookie season. But I soured on Brian big time after his crappy performance at AAA in 2007. It's time to stop blaming Ozzie, Kenny or whoever and hold Brian 100% accountable.

RotoWorld Suggests White Sox should sign Jim Edmonds
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 16, 2009 -> 08:11 PM) Really? Young's put up decent power numbers but he strikes out a ton and hasn't hit for average, so his OPS has hung around .760. If you project Anderson over the same 625 at bats Chris Young got last year, Anderson puts up 28 home runs, Young hit 32. Young hasn't put together the whole package and is hanging around at "Brian Anderson" levels of effectiveness. His power numbers are more than decent for a CF. He also provides plus speed and defense. Projecting what Brian Anderson could do over the same amount of at-bats is irrelevant. Chris, who has his obvious flaws, is two years younger than Brian and has shown considerably more. Brian is just flawed and has shown us nothing outside of being able to play a quality CF.

RotoWorld Suggests White Sox should sign Jim Edmonds
QUOTE (SouthsideDon48 @ Mar 16, 2009 -> 07:49 PM) Hurt, no. Undervalued, yes, woefully undervalued. Not true. Kenny clearly said at the time that of all the prospects he had traded away that he thought Chris Young would be the one to come back and bite him. And he was right.

I've got Pitt, Oklahoma, Wake Forest and Memphis. Pitt is my NC over WF. I'll probably change my mind on this 50 times between now and Thursday.

3/16 Game Thread - Sox vs. Royals
Can't believe there's still THREE weeks of spring training games left. They've seriously got to do something about the ridiculous length of the spring season. I lost interest after about the first week. Thank god for college hoops.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Mar 16, 2009 -> 12:31 PM) wake is such a tough team to figure out. i think they're final four good, but they hardly ever play like it. Indeed. This team has the most devastating combination of size/length/athleticism/depth in the country. And you flat have no idea which team is going to show up. I'm glad I'm not a fan of this team. I'd go f***ing crazy.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 16, 2009 -> 08:31 AM) If you are a small school and a lower level of opponents the entire season, your record must be stellar or you must win your conference to get in. Its pretty simple actually for them. On a whole, the 2nd place team in those small conferences barely match up with the 4th or 5th place team in major conferences, its just how it is. I'd also like to add (and let me stress I don't think this is right. And I'm sure most people already know), but don't think for a second the committee doesn't factor in overall talent and who they think people want to see. And I know for one I'd rather watch guys like Jordan Hill, Chase Budinger and Nic Wise over Booker Woodfox and whoever else is on that team. Again, not saying it's right. And I'd probably feel much differently if I were a fan of a mid-major school, but it's reality.

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Mar 15, 2009 -> 11:12 PM) Can someone please explain why Michigan deserves to be in the tournament besides the customary "they beat Duke and UCLA"? Besides that? Hard for me to explain why. Again, quality non-conference wins have become crucial. I knew they were in when they waxed Purdue last month.

QUOTE (Jimbo's Drinker @ Mar 15, 2009 -> 11:06 PM) They also could not win a game away from home. If they missed the tourney, KU would have had the longest streak in the tourney in the road...stupid arizona. True. I'm just saying it seems a lot of people can't fathom how they got in. All you have to do is look at their non-conference schedule and who they beat. Teams better start recognizing that it's not just about conference play anymore and schedule better.

QUOTE (zenryan @ Mar 15, 2009 -> 04:05 PM) Arizona? That is a f***ing joke. QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ Mar 15, 2009 -> 04:08 PM) Sure is. I hate the BCS school love. The tournament selection is just a complete joke again. QUOTE (Jimbo's Drinker @ Mar 15, 2009 -> 04:19 PM) Arizona, you gotta be kidding me. Why are you guys so shocked they made it? This proves once again how crucial November/December games are. They beat Kansas, SDSU and Gonzaga. That was obviously enough (along with quality conference wins). This is why college hoops is so wonderful. You want in the tourney? Beat somebody.

QUOTE (Brian @ Mar 13, 2009 -> 10:55 PM) It was unreal. Both guys were great. Richmond just calmly dribbled to half court and shot it. He made it look so easy. I'm a Warren guy, so it will be tough to fall asleep after that. Were you there? I'm hoping somebody at least puts up the game-winner on YT.

Official 2008-2009 College Basketball Thread
Jereme Richmond essentially clinches Mr. Basketball in Illinois with a game-winning half-court shot to defeat Brandon Paul and Warren. Wow! I would love to see this game. Looks like both players were fantastic and super clutch in this one. I heard Brandon Paul was literally in tears after Richmond's shot. 2011 seems like decades away.

Soxtalk's Biggest Loser Club
I think it's safe to say J4L is back on track after hitting a little wall for a few weeks. I just completed an extremely vigorous 1-week workout regimen that has resulted in me losing 7 more pounds. Down to 190 now. 20 more pounds to go. I can see the threshold. Oh, and I'm not sure how many here take supplements, but I would recommend anyone to look into one called Xenadrine RFA X. http://www.gnc.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3190415 I've been taking 4-6 capsules a day for two weeks. I can't remember ever feeling so energetic in my life. They're definitely legit.

QUOTE (danman31 @ Mar 13, 2009 -> 11:11 AM) I'm not sure how baseball can even come anywhere close to that. I don't think I've seen a sporting event top last night. If there's anything about baseball that sucks, it's that there is no last second drama like in football or basketball. College basketball is by far the best sport. Baseball probably fits in at 4th for me, it's too slow. It's really a matter of preference. Baseball was/is my first love. I get a special kind of joy from it that I really can't explain. But I certainly won't argue against anybody that thinks college hoops is king. I absolutely love it.

2009 Cubs thread
QUOTE (Kalapse @ Mar 13, 2009 -> 12:54 AM) Wow, aren't you're flustered. You know nothing about me, don't act like you do. The real question is, where does all your hostility come from? Since we apparently know so much about each other I'm guessing it's an inferiority complex. I didn't claim to know you. I don't "know" anybody from this board. But I do "know" that if I had a dollar for every one of your posts that included the name Bill James or whatever stat whore/metric out there, I'd be kickin' it next to Oprah along the Gold Coast. In fact, I knew that you, and only you, would be the first person to respond to my original post regarding this subject. Inferiority complex? No offense. But don't flatter yourself. This is a baseball message board. One of, like, 2 million of them. That is all. You're the one that came with salary figures as in, "Well, they make money doing this, so they obviously know more than you" talk. I'm sorry. "Just enough" HR is over-analyzing for the sake of over-analyzing. That's the way I see it. If you try hard enough, you can manipulate just about anything to support a specific claim. Which in this case we have somebody trying to insinuate that despite the fact a particular guy (CQ), who's done nothing but rake when healthy, is possibly due for a decline because however many of his shots only went a certain distance. And I don't hate Bill James. I disagree with some of his metrics/formulas. But I do find some of his stuff interesting. You, IMO, take it a little too far. It's like you're letting the guy think for you. Fine. Maybe the virgin jokes or whatever was going a little far (I thought it was funny). But I'm pretty sure a vast majority feel the same way I do. I get annoyed when every 5 minutes there's some new/hip offensive/defensive metric that is supposed to tell us something our eyes simply can't (I'm talking overall. Not really this specific subject). Like I said, I think some of the stuff is cool. Some of it is a joke. That's just my opinion. If you're hardcore with it, fine. But don't try and come at me or anybody else (which I've seen you do before) and hint (not saying you actually come out and say it, but you do imply) that we have no right to question these guys because they get paid to do what they're doing.

Is Beckham the new 2B?
QUOTE (scenario @ Mar 11, 2009 -> 10:28 AM) I just saw a statistical analysis from the other day that "proved" Alfonso Soriano is the best left-fielder in MLB... defensively. As the saying goes... "Statistics don't lie... but statisticians do." Because numbers can be found to support almost any argument. That's nothing. I discovered the "just enough" HR stat yesterday.
