QUOTE (MurcieOne @ Feb 27, 2009 -> 11:57 PM) If a team cannot get up for a game like this one (Red, NVL, and Obama in the stands), honestly something seems out of whack. Vinny Del Negro should not be the coach when next season starts. I don't think it had anything to do with if they got up for the game or not. They're just not very good and got waxed. Although I will continue to watch the games and obviously support the team, I have long concluded that this season will be about the development of Rose and identifying which players currently on the roster are the best fit with Rose. Making the playoffs would mean nothing at this point.

Official 2008-2009 NFL Offseason Thread
QUOTE (MurcieOne @ Feb 27, 2009 -> 05:51 PM) There seems to be a number of quality veteran WR available on the market. If signed the WR would be virtually guaranteed to be the number 1 option... so Chicago could be an attractive spot for the right guy. (although i'm sure Orton, this line, and our history of offensive failures do not exactly stiffen the pecker) 2. If Andre Smith Alabama falls, I think the JA should actively pursue him and trade up if they can. I don't care about the combine or talking to an agent... the kid is a BEAST! IF other teams are shaky on him... he seems to be the kind of player that the Bears should take a chance on, because our current roster is remarkably mediocre. Thank you. And did anybody know Frank Omiyale even existed before today? I'll take any information I can get. So far I know Jerry Angelo likes him. The end.

2/27 Sox vs. Dbacks
QUOTE (scenario @ Feb 27, 2009 -> 04:38 PM) Nathan Jones = Nuke LaLoosh Might have the best arm in the organization. High 90's fastball and an outstanding curveball that sometimes causes guys to bail out of the box before it breaks back into the strike zone. Now the bad news. Control problems. And mechanical issues that may limit his ability to throw consistent strikes. He's a project for sure, but an interesting one. Does he throw 99? I listened to a couple of games he pitched last year and the gun they used had him up in the range. But... not sure I'd trust the stadium guns in the low minors. So, it's hard to put alot of stock in those numbers until he moves up a level or two. Thanks. I'll definitely be tracking this kid all season.

2/27 Sox vs. Dbacks
QUOTE (scenario @ Feb 27, 2009 -> 04:19 PM) I've got some old notes I compiled on him from various sources. 22 year-old Venezuelan righthander Clevelan Santeliz heads the ranks of sleepers looking to surprise. His slider had been his best pitch until 2007, when his fastball jumped from the low 90s to the mid-90s, touching 96 mph at times. The 6-foot, 190-pound Santeliz also has a plus changeup. His development has been slowed by both his control and the lack of a consistent breaking pitch. He has been used more as a reliever than a starter but Bell switched him into the starting rotation after replacing Alan Regier as farm director. He's expected to compete for a starting spot at Birmingham in 2009. "He's got as good of an arm as anybody we have," one staffer said. Scenario, what do you know about Nathan Jones? I've read multiple articles stating that his stuff is ridiculously good (does he really tough 99 with his FB?) but that his command/control are seriously lacking at this point.

QUOTE (ChesterCopperpot @ Feb 27, 2009 -> 03:59 PM) Should I know who Clevelan Santeliz is? He's definitely worth keeping an eye on. I read an article by Phil Rogers a few weeks ago pretty much saying he and Nathan Jones are tremendously talented. Of course, they have a lot of things they have to work on.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Feb 26, 2009 -> 02:27 PM) Correct, but this isn't baseball. Just making the playoffs means something in baseball, but not so much in basketball where just over half the teams make it every year. It's hard for me to come up with anything less significant than making the playoffs as a 7th or 8th seed in the NBA. And what do people think of the Celtics signing Marbury? I think it's a great move. There's virtually no risk for the Celtics, as they can cut him without it hurting their pockets one bit. I don't see Marbury causing any problems, at least for the rest of this year, as he knows he's playing for his next contract. And the talent has never been a question. It's amazing how the Celtics went from having no bench to arguably the deepest in the league with Marbury, the recently acquired Mikke Moore, House, Allen, Davis and Powe.

QUOTE (Felix @ Feb 26, 2009 -> 07:46 PM) Absolutely pathetic performance by the Minnesota guards today, but at least DJ looked like he cared. DJ was the best player out there without a doubt, and while Iverson and Sampson plays alright inside, it's not enough when your guards play as terrible as they did today. We've been shuttin' down other team's best backourt players all year. If Chester Frazier doesn't win Big-10 DPOY the award needs to be abolished. And that's not me being a homer. I actually thought JaJuan Johnson was the front-runner a few weeks ago. But Chet is just lockin' up everybody right now. And big ups to Bruce Weber for his post-game response after being asked for the 52747437584584458 time why Big-10 games are so ugly/low scoring.

Red Kerr
QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ Feb 27, 2009 -> 03:42 AM) Kerr was like Hawk for the Bulls. He was a homer but you knew exactly what he felt about the team. The NBA is losing another great man tonight. I love Hawk even more now. I busted out some old Bulls games from the dynasty just to hear Red do his thing. The love/passion he had for Bulls basketball, even during arguably the darkest period (the end of the dynasty through 2004) for any franchise in NBA history, will never be replicated.

Norm Van Lier
QUOTE (Chi Town Sox @ Feb 26, 2009 -> 11:45 PM) I know Red has backed down alot from the booth this year....but can you honestly imagine watching a Bulls telecast without these 2 names being said. Everytime I think pre or postgame....I just hear the name Norm Van Lier. Everytime I watch the game...I just hear the name Red Kerr Unbelievable And let this be a lesson to those who continually bash Hawk for his long-winded/homerism. You NEVER EVER know what you have until it's gone. Very sad day indeed.

Red Kerr
This is really unbelievable. And I will admit that I'm a little choked up right now.

Norm Van Lier
QUOTE (Jimbo's Drinker @ Feb 26, 2009 -> 03:39 PM) 6 months ago is a long time for an old dude. I guess so. Just really strange that he's gone.

JOE.CREDE. = Twinkie
QUOTE (Felix @ Feb 26, 2009 -> 10:31 AM) Honestly, that's really sad. You wouldn't care that our main rival won the World Series? The Twins are our competition if we ever want to win anything. The Cubs? 6 games. You have to live/lived in Chicago to truly understand. It's about WAYYYYYYY more than the 6 measly games we play against them.
-
Norm Van Lier
WTF? One of my friends who's a taxi driver drove Van Lier somewhere (I can't remember where) like 6 months ago and he appeared to be in perfect health.

QUOTE (SoxFan101 @ Feb 26, 2009 -> 09:31 AM) Kind of random, but considering Ben Gordon seems like he is gone from the bulls. What type of NBA prospects are Gerald Henderson and Dar Tucker? Let's put it this way: You do not want the Bulls to draft either one of these guys.

QUOTE (fathom @ Feb 26, 2009 -> 07:50 AM) Losing your 4th best player to injury doesn't end your chances. Hell, maybe Acker can help stretch the defense a little more. And might I add that Jerel McNeal is amazing. He's been the best guard in college basketball during conference play. Doesn't matter that he's their "4th best" player. He was their best playmaker and perimeter defender. Acker has sucked ass all year. They had virtually no depth to begin with and now they'll be even thinner. I agree with you about McNeal. If not for Thabeet/Blair, he'd be my pick for BE player of the year.

I will go on record right now in saying that if somehow Andre Smith is available when the Bears make their selection that we should take him without a seconds hesitation. I can't believe how big a deal is being made of him not working out at the combine. Smith is a special talent that you simply DO NOT pass on.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Feb 25, 2009 -> 09:34 PM) Just saw on the bottom line that Dominic James is out for the year for Marquette. And that effectively ends their NC aspirations. They were already razor thin before this. Now they're Ally Mcbeal thin. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Feb 25, 2009 -> 10:14 PM) Gerald Henderson is a f***ing monster. You guys have totally transformed since MK finally inserted Elliott Williams and moved Scheyer to the point.

What will Anderson have played for Crede?
How any Sox fan could boo anyone (even Timo) from that 2005 team is beyond comprehension.

The tone around here has changed dramatically of late. Does everyone still want John Paxson fired yesterday? Or did all it take was a decent 12-game stretch to get everybody giddy?

2009 Cubs thread
QUOTE (JustWin @ Feb 24, 2009 -> 04:39 PM) I hate the Cubs just as much as teams in our own division, sometimes more. Please let them suffer a down year so we don't have to listen to their arrogant fans once again. I truly thought that last year would be the year they would at least make it to the World Series because of how horrid the NL was. Thank goodness the chokers in them came through once again! The problem is the rest of the NL is still not very good and the NL Central is an absolute joke so unless the unexpected happens, the Cubs should win that division easily. Honestly, how could any Cub fan gloat or even get excited about regular season dominance after last year's debacle? I agree that their division appears to suck once again (although I think the Reds will be MUCH improved). But I think the rest of the NL will be better. I think the Phillies and Mets are clearly better. If Arizona's ultra-talented core of position players take that next step, they're easily better as well. I might even rank the Dodgers ahead of them assuming, of course, they sign Manny. And I think teams like the Marlins and Giants will wreak some serious havoc.

Spring Training Reports
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Feb 23, 2009 -> 02:39 PM) In other words, they both suck. Wise was doing just fine until he was forced to play every day due to Q going down. Then he was exposed. I wouldn't mind either as the 4th OF at this point with Brian getting the nod because of his glove. I've long given up on the idea of Brian ever being competent with the bat.
