  1. I've long accepted the fact that the Cubs are going to win the their division. It's all about playoff matchups at this point for me. I just pray they get the Dbacks in round 1.
  2. Not a lot to like about this team right now. I'm really starting to worry. The Twins will simply not fade. Our pitching is in shambles right now (save a rare good start from a starter every now and then). We've got injuries all over the place. No legitimate replacements to step in for those injured guys. And with our crappy minor league system, there's not much KW can do in terms of bringing in reinforcements.
  3. I know I drink a lot. But did the gamethread just vanish for a few minutes?
  4. I love John. But he has to stop falling apart late in games. He's young. I'm sure he'll overcome that problem.
  5. lol@Pods making it. He's one of the most disrespcted and hated on players in the history of Soxtalk.
  6. No fanbase trashes their minor league system, rightfully so, more than this board. Yet act shocked when KW isn't able to pull off impact trades.
  7. Excellent move for Arizona. I don't see how anyone can question it. If I'm a Cubs fan (and if I were I'd more than likely be gay), I want nothing to do with Arizona come October. Having to face Webb, Haren and RJ, who's something like 84-0 in his career against them, would scare me enough. Now their offense just got a lot more potent. And they still have a strong 'pen. Arizona has dissapointed since their hot start. But they're built for the playoffs. They get in, they're as dangerous as anyone.

Damn. No more E&J for me. Thanks for the b-day wishes by the way, knight.

Hello gentlemen and ladies. Are you drunk when you start singing the Titanic love song out loud?
  10. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 02:29 PM) I can't believe the A's gave up Harden. If Harden and Soriano stay healthy, this is your NL Winner. I still think the Dbacks are the team best equipped from the NL to beat them. But as of right now, they're the clear favorite. The Brewers have officially been dismissed.
  11. GMAFB! Konerko has absolutely nothing to do with how awful our pitching has been of late.
  12. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Jul 29, 2008 -> 11:01 PM) Something appears to have happened on our off day July 7th. I say this because we're a mediocre 8-9 since then, as our pitching staff that was 1st or 2nd in the AL behind Oakland for a long time just fell off the planet. Now to be fair, 11 of the 17 games have been on the road, but at the same time, we lost a home series to KANSAS CITY, and more disturbing is our pitching and defense. In those 17 games, the Sox made 20 errors, with no stretch of more than 2 errorless games (and there was only one of those). That doesn't even include plays like Paul Konerko's bad pickoff throw tonight, Paul Konerko's drop on a should be double play in Kansas City, another botched PK pickoff throw in Texas, and so on. As for the pitching, in this span, the Sox have given up 7, 6, 4, 7, 7, 12, 5, 9, 8, 6, 2, 8, 5, 6, 6, 7, and 6 runs. That is just plain awful, and puts an incredible amount of pressure on our offense. Giving up 5+ runs in 15 of 17 games could realistically lead to a much worse stretch than 8-9, especially with as much as we've been on the road, so we should thank the offense. But in the meantime, the pitching (both starting and relief) and defense better get their heads out of their asses, or we're in deep s***. Injuries haven't helped us, but our sloppy play lately has been atrocious. You pretty much summed up the crap that has been the White Sox of late. We're VERY fortunate to have even gone 8-9 since the 7th. If we don't pitch it and catch it, the Twins will win their fifth division title since 2001.
  13. Terrible defense? Check! Terrible bullpen? Check! Extremely low baseball I.Q.? Check! Horses*** of a manager? Super check! It's the Cubs' division to lose. They've got no legitimate competition.
  14. PK reminds me of Shawn Abner.
  15. Weeks should be benched in favor of Durham for the rest of the season. The Brewers are a flat out AWFUL defensive team. Their baseball I.Q. is lower than that of the Rockford Peaches from "A League of Their Own."
  16. Twins up 3-2 in the 9th. The Indian Bullpen strikes again!
  17. QUOTE (Wedge @ Jul 27, 2008 -> 01:34 PM) Gosh, I hope Konerko gets it together. We really need him down the stretch run. It truly hurts me to see him struggling so much. Reminds me of Mark's second half collapse in 2006.
  18. We've still got a chance if we can hold 'em here.
  19. Sad to see one of my favorite players fall so hard.
  20. That'll work. Nice job by Thome.
  21. Thome can shred his "unclutch" rep with a slam here.
  22. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jul 27, 2008 -> 01:23 PM) And there's no way he would leave off guys with ERAs in the 3.50s and below. No chance. This is different than Bmac and El Duque. That was for the very last roster spot that was probably going largely unused(it didn't work out that way, but still). Bmac was a guy with 60 MLB innings under his belt, and it wasn't like he was anything spectacular. This would be for the number 2 and 3 starting spot, and be given to guys who simply have been spectacular with full seasons under their belts. I hope you're right. I just don't see it. Let's just hope Javy gets his s*** together soon. We might have to be 15 games out for that to happen.
  23. QUOTE (Wedge @ Jul 27, 2008 -> 02:15 PM) Unless something drastically changes, the four man staff would be Mark, Jose, Danks, Floyd. Javier is our fifth starter at this point and that is being generous. Contreras was essentially unproven going into the 2005 playoffs, but Ozzie played the hot hand. I have no doubt he would do the same with regards to Danks and Floyd over Vazquez. No way. You know how blindly loyal Ozzie sometimes is to his vets. No way in hell he'd leave Javy out of the playoff rotation.
  24. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jul 27, 2008 -> 02:09 PM) We would have to be the first team in history to make the playoffs and then not start our winningest pitcher as well as the guy who is tied for 2nd in ERA. You would have to be nuts not to start Gavin. I'm just trying to think like Ozzie. Do you really think he would go with Floyd or Danks over Contreras? El Duque had no business making the playoff roster over Bmac (it obviously worked out well). I'm almost 100% certain that one of Floyd/Danks would be moved to the bullpen.
