Is it me, or does this offseason really f***in' suck?

Pujols says MVP should be on playoff team
QUOTE(TheBigHurt @ Dec 2, 2006 -> 01:28 AM) Yeah, they sucked so bad that they won the World Series, beating one good team and the 2 best teams in baseball to do it. Please don't make that lame excuse about the Tigers making errors. Sure, but the Cards capitalized on them, much as the SOX won games by capitalizing on mistakes. Wins are wins, and there are no flukes. If you want to say they had bad stretches or sucked during a lot of the season, granted since they reside in the N.L. Central, but the Sox has a very ugly stretch in '05 and still won it all when almost NO ONE believed they could, so you sound hypocritical. The Cards proved they are a good team by getting to, and winning the World Series. If you want to put an asterik next to a team's name because of opponents' mistakes (which was only a vital factor in ONE of the 3 playoff series), frankly, that's your own absurd, inept preference. Very ignorant statement made by you, sir. Dude, the Cards won a pathetic division in a pathetic league. They would've been swept by the Mets had they not lost damn near their entire rotation.

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Dec 1, 2006 -> 03:00 AM) Yeah I do, he hit 2 of them in a row at one point during the 3rd, and got fouled on a 3rd one. Well, I didn't see the game. But I don't think that qualifies as "a lot."

Well, I remember hating on Lebron when people were hyping him up well before he played in his first NBA game. I won't make the same mistake with Oden. Dude is just that good. Will see it soon enough.

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Dec 1, 2006 -> 12:04 AM) Kobe with 30 points in the 3rd tonight, and with 52 after 3 quarters. I guess he's back, he hit 11 shots in a row in the 3rd and was 19 for 25 from the field through 3. Just unreal, and a lot of the shots were contested 25 to 27 footers, doing this against the 13-3 Jazz. Contested 25-27 footers? You realize that's two to 4 feet behind the 3-point line, right? Anyway, yeah, Kobe did his thing tonight.

2nd Guessing the Vazquez Trade
QUOTE(BHAMBARONS @ Nov 30, 2006 -> 01:16 AM) From the sounds around here if Zona could have traded Vas for a bag of balls they would have been happy. He burned a lot of bridges around here and he is in competition with Johnny Estrada for most hated former player. I hate you, Bham. lol. When you put it like that, it sounds as if we could've gotten Vaz without having to give up a top 15-20 prospect.

Sox & Angels Talking; Crede/Garcia for Santana/Figgins
QUOTE(Melissa1334 @ Nov 29, 2006 -> 07:22 PM) i got to admit I'd really like it: Figgy Pods Dye Thome Konerko AJP Iguchi Fields Uribe I know its not quite as good of a lineup power wise (but we have tons of power anyway) but it definately is one capable of manufacturing runs. And if Pods struggles, we would have more than enough prospects to be able to acquire an outfielder at some point in time. Figgins and Pods on the same team? Time to find a barf bag.

Sox & Angels Talking; Crede/Garcia for Santana/Figgins
QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Nov 28, 2006 -> 10:41 PM) I mean, there are a lot of bizarre trades proposed here, where we're getting Hughes and Pelfrey and every great prospect the Angels ever had, but -- when you start talking about trading for Miguel Cabrera, just drink some water and sleep it off for a day, please. I mean, I'm only asking you to post half-sober, for God's sake. I'm drunk as hell and I know there's not even a remote chance we land MC.

Nice to know the Bulls are still clearly better than the Knicks.

Very good points by Yasny. I'm surprised some don't seem to grasp what you're saying. And for those saying Pods did nothing after the break in 2005, check again. While it is true Pods was never the same as far as stealing bases after the hamstring injury in August, he was still quite productive. His September splits: .337/.386/.404. And, of course, there was the postseason. I realize Pods is not very popular around here. But give the guy credit for 2005, atleast. 2006? Yes, he was bad. Real bad a lot of the time. But who really feels comfortable going into 2007 with one of Sweeney/Fields/Owens in LF? Those are pretty much our options, assuming no trade is made to bring in a leadoff hitter. I know I'm not comfortable with that. And I don't think it's out of the realm of realism that Pods can have a year closer to 2005 than 2006. I'd rather take my chances on that.

Sox & Angels Talking; Crede/Garcia for Santana/Figgins
QUOTE(mmmmmbeeer @ Nov 27, 2006 -> 03:59 PM) Baseball perspective aside, I really don't like this deal. Crede has become probably my favorite player on the team. I really don't like Chone Figgins at all and Ervin has always been one of baseball's most overhyped players in my opinion. It just seems that with this market we could "downgrade" a Santana to an ML-ready prospect and not have to give up Crede. I just assumed that in this market any deal we'd make would be an obvious white sox winner. This proposed deal is far, far away from being an obvious sox winner...if anything, it creates another hole. You would assume they would have a plan as far as another 3rd baseman goes. If not, this isn't that great a deal.

Sox & Angels Talking; Crede/Garcia for Santana/Figgins
Great deal assuming another move is on the horizon to atleast somewhat replace one of the best all-around 3rd basemen in the game.

I knew before the season ended our options were severely limited. I really think Pods will be back.

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Nov 23, 2006 -> 04:52 PM) Romo's lookin good, and so are the Cowboys. Hopefully we can put this one away in the 3rd. You just did. I must say, the Cowboys have been a totally different team with Romo at QB. They might just be the second best (a distant second) in the NFC behind Chicago.

Official 2006-2007 NBA Discussion Thread
We might not need the Knicks pick. We might get one of Oden/Durant/Young (my top 3) on our own. This is not a very good basketball team right now. I think it's easy to forget that this is, for the most part, the same team that was like 12 games below .500 before that late run to end last season. I'm very pissed off at this group. We can't stop ANYBODY. If we don't defend, we've got no chance. We have too many offensively-challenged players on this team to do well without playing elite defense. And count me in as one that felt we basically gave away J.R. Smith.

An offseason of BAD choices
QUOTE(VAfan @ Nov 20, 2006 -> 01:24 PM) I'm curious what folks think in answer to this question: Would the White Sox win more or fewer games, make or miss the playoffs, if we essentially stood pat this offseason? Given the fact that the Twins will be without Liriano for the year, I believe we would win more games and make the playoffs with essentially the same team, with the only adjustments coming from within. The reason we would be better? Our starting pitching. With added rest and a proper spring training next year, we should bounce back closer to 2005 levels and come close to matching the Tigers' pitching. I'm sure KW will NOT stand pat. But I hope he doesn't hurt the team making moves just to make moves. That's a legitimate question. I still can't believe a team with the talent we had underachieved so badly. However, we still did win 90 games. I think it's atleast a 50/50 chance that our current starters could rebound next year. They'll obviously have a full off-season to rest and recuperate. But even if they do all rebound, we're not going anywhere without a legitimate bullpen. And that's something we just never had in 2006. Say what you want about the starting pitching in 2005, it was legendary, but our bullpen was just as important to winning that title as our starters were.

Ryan Howard
I know Howard had an amazing year, but how the hell can you go against Pujols? As bad as the Cardinals were, and they were indeed bad, they're the Pirates without Albert. If not for that injury earlier in the year, no telling what his overall numbers would've been.

Alfonso Soriano signs w/ Cubs
QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Nov 20, 2006 -> 01:16 PM) While 99.9% of the comments in this thread make perfect sense, the fact of the matter is you don't have to be very good in the NL to win. You can't say the Cubs with a healthy Lee and Soriano in the line-up aren't capable of winning 82-87 games, something that would get you 3rd or 4th place in the AL. You get on a roll in the playoffs, and you sneak a world title, like the Cardinals did this year. The Cardinals were one of the worst teams I saw at USCF this year, but they will get rings. That's the x-factor. The NL is so garbage it's embarrasing. If Hendry can sign a couple of decent pitchers to go with Zambrano and Hill, they'll have as good a chance as anybody to atleast win their division. We know anything can happen after that. Just ask the Cardinals.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Nov 20, 2006 -> 01:13 PM) No, Dye does not have a shot. I know.

Just saw on ESPN news. Maybe Dye has a shot? Obviously leading your team to the playoffs is no longer a prerequisite among the voters the last few years.

Alfonso Soriano signs w/ Cubs
QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Nov 19, 2006 -> 03:25 PM) Hendry also knows there is a pretty good chance that he isn't around when Soriano's deal becomes a really big problem.... True. So what do you guys think of this lineup? Soriano Derosa Lee Ramirez Jones? Barrett Murton? Izturis That's just my guess as of right now. Obviously this will change if guys like Murton or Jones are traded. That's a pretty good lineup, though. It should feast on the garbage pitching that is the NL central.
