UPDATE: Uribe now certain he'll play
QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jan 6, 2007 -> 03:10 AM) Ok if we're going to look at things this way. Cintron's .359 OBP came in a season which he hit .317 meaning his high OBP was directly related to his near .320 BA which is something he's never even come close to duplicating as a matter of fact the highest he ever hit in the minors was .322 as a 23 year old in AAA he never came close to that at any other point in his big league career. Anyway, when debating between Cintron and Uribe I find it pretty ridiculous to bring plate discipline or OBP into the argument seeing as they both suck at drawing walks and are free swingers by nature. I don't think anyone really knows who Juan Uribe is, whether he's the .833 OPS player he was in '04 or the .698 he put up last season is the true Juan but 2 things are for certain he's still one of the best defensive players in the game at an incredibly crucial defensive position and he's shown good power on a consistent basis. Alex on the other hand is a good bat, he seems to be a pretty good contact guy with limited power and limited speed. He doesn't have the defensive skills you're looking for out of your SS but he is a decent baserunner. In other words he's a very good bat to have off the bench but from what he's shown at the major league level I'd much rather have him at around 300 ABs per season kicking ass for me in a pinch hitting role than picking up 600 ABs as my starting SS. I'm with Kalapse. This team simply is not as good without Uribe as the everyday SS.

All-star!- Happy Birthday Heather, Fotop and Soxfan3530
No love for Jabroni? lol. I miss that dude. Happy b-day to everybody.- KW on with North
QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jan 4, 2007 -> 06:40 PM) North is obnoxious sounding. I've never listened to him before, but man, listening to this interview for the first time -- ouch. Where can you get the full interview? Or are they just replaying it on the Score?- Jim Parque attempting a comeback
QUOTE(klaus kinski @ Jan 4, 2007 -> 06:09 PM) Why not, with the $ being thrown around. Quote from Mike Cameron upon hearing this "Welcome Back" Damn that was a tough night. Down 10-0 after 1 inning. LOL. I can't remember, did Cameron hit all 4 off Parque?- What kind of town is Chicago?
This question is better left unanswered until 'hopefully' the Bears get to the SB. There won't be any debating if that happens.- Official 2006-2007 NBA Discussion Thread
QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jan 4, 2007 -> 02:37 PM) Arenas also is much more important to his team than Nash is to his. And stats do factor in the decision they just arent the end all of it. Have you seen the Suns without Nash? They're awful. He makes that whole team go. Arenas does one thing real well: Score. He's a poor man's Iverson. And the stats argument is weak. Kobe and Lebron both averaged way more points and rebounds last year. Did that mean anything? Nash is shooting OVER 50% from the field AND from 3. Just think about that for a second. That's unheard of. He's damn near 90% from the line. Up over 20 PPG. Makes EVERYBODY around him a better player. Can you honestly say that about a shoot-happy chucker like Arenas? That's not even getting into the difference in the two conferences. The Suns would win 'atleast' 65 games in the pathetic east. The Wiz wouldn't crack .500 in the west. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jan 4, 2007 -> 04:33 PM) It says alot when Barbossa takes the last second shot for the suns, and Arenas does for the Wiz. That actually doesn't say a thing.- Official 2006-2007 NBA Discussion Thread
QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jan 3, 2007 -> 12:35 PM) Right now, There is no way the MVP cant go to Arenas. He is avging 10 more points, 1 more board, and 2 steals a game compared to Nash's less than 1. The only thing Nash leads in is 10 or 11 assists per game compared to 6-7 for Arenas. Huh? If it were all about stats, Nash wouldn't have the two he has. Fact is Nash is having his best season yet. If the Suns win 55-60 games, he has a good chance to get it again.- Jordan's Divorce!
QUOTE(Steff @ Jan 3, 2007 -> 06:07 PM) I wub u 2, eye. What about me, Steff? I'm your biggest fan.- KW on with North
QUOTE(greg775 @ Jan 4, 2007 -> 02:12 AM) Detroit's pitchers better be tired this season after all the crap spewed about how tired our pitchers were last season. Geez. You'd think an extra month was 6 months. Good to hear KW's comments otherwise though. He has a plan and I can't fault him too much for that. I don't want 100 loss seasons and he sensed they were coming. I agree, greg. It's gonna be very interesting to see if our guys were really tired or if they just got lit up. I like what we've done to this point, though.- Official 2006-2007 NBA Discussion Thread
QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jan 2, 2007 -> 11:04 PM) Right now I'm going with Gilbert Arenas. That guy has been insane over the past month. He's definitely a canidate. Along with guys like Dirk, Duncan, Boozer, Kobe, Lebron. But damn, Nash is sick. He's shooting over 50% from the field AND from 3. He's up over 20 ppg. He's, of course, leading the league in dimes. He just gets better with age.- Twins expect Santana gone by 2008, per paper
QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Jan 2, 2007 -> 10:35 PM) Basically, if he got Zito $18 mill, I wouldn't be the least bit surprised to see him get Santana $30-35 mill per. And I don't put the Yankees and Red Sox as the automatic favorites, because in a sweepstakes where any team with any money at all is looking at said player as a possibility, there are no favorites to land a player. The Yankees and Red Sox can bid against each other all they want to, but there are probably 10 other teams who have the resources to put to use, and if they are smart, they'll realize it. Just so we are clear...in this instance, overpay is 25% of the payroll for 8 years in a row. I'd love the Sox to get him, but it's just a horrible risky business decision that the front office has shied away from in the past 7-8 years, and with good reason too. LOL. C'mon now, wite.- Official 2006-2007 NBA Discussion Thread
Question: If the season ended today, is Nash the MVP again? He's having his best season yet.- Chad Cordero available for A level prospects?
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jan 1, 2007 -> 09:44 PM) The value of a decent starting pitcher > the value of a good relief pitcher. The value of a decent starting pitcher with 0 years MLB service time >> the value of a good relief pitcher with several years of service time. The value of a hopefully MLB level, solid defensive outfielder with 1 year of Service time and 1 decent starting pitching prospect with 0 years MLB service time >>> the value of a good relief pitcher with several years of service time. What are you getting at?- Official: Randy Johnson traded to Diamondbacks
QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Jan 1, 2007 -> 11:10 PM) So Randy asks to be traded to a certain team. Then he demands the certain team to give him X amount. Nice guy. That damn scotch.- Official: Randy Johnson traded to Diamondbacks
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jan 1, 2007 -> 09:46 PM) Except about 15 years older than them, paid $6-7 million more than each of them, with 100% less cartilage in his knees than any of them, and with 1 more recent back surgery than any of them. I'm no longer doing ^^^ because Santa Dorf specifically said not to. Edit: Wait. I just did. Oh well.- Jordan's Divorce!
QUOTE(Steff @ Jan 1, 2007 -> 08:53 PM) His ID said James Jordan and he was wearing an NBA ring and you believe they didn't know who he was....? The gambling was a valid concern at the time - and the reason for his "baseball career". I don't ever recall those kids being accused of being hired by someone Jordan owed money to, the only place it was mentioned was in theory. My mistake. I should've worded that a little better. What I meant was it wasn't until after they had killed him and gone through his things that they realized it was Jordan's dad. That alone should've eliminated any theory that his gambling had something to do with it. IIRC, it was Norm Van Lier that first hinted at it publically. There were also multiple newspaper columnists that hinted at the same thing. This is from some dude named Mark Whicker. He wrote for the Orange County Register at the time.- Films of 2006
QUOTE(Dan @ Jan 1, 2007 -> 06:07 PM) Black Christmas. So I take it that movie was good? I might see it this weekend.- People good looking-not good looking
QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jan 1, 2007 -> 03:20 AM) I have a friend who is ridiculously stupid. He goes around asking people, "Do you know when it's acceptable to cheat? Like, when something happens to your wife. Like, if the house burns and she gets her face burnt. You don't want to kiss that!" and it might seem as if it were some ultra sarcastic prank, ala Borat, but it's not. That's really how he thinks. "How could you stay with that!" Well, Tom is more an acquaintance than a friend. Not that I'm saying that THAT is what PA is saying -- though it might be. I'm just saying that's what comes to mind for me. And I, of course, don't endorse the sentiment or thought behind that thought. LMAO! That's a legit question, though. I had a dream once that my wife lost half her face in a car accident. I swear to god. How do you continue to bone a chick with half a face? C'mon now. QUOTE(Brian @ Dec 31, 2006 -> 04:13 PM) Alcohol You got that right. Rosie O'Donell doesn't look all that bad after a bottle of scotch.- New Years resolutions
Mine is to stop drinking. LMAO! Not! That was a joke. For real, I want to drop 15 pounds and develop a sick 6-pack. I plan on signing up at this place called "Xsport Fitness." They're open 24 hours a day. So it'll be very convenient for me.- Official NFL Thread
QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jan 1, 2007 -> 02:27 AM) Rex Grossman can't handle the Packer defense, or the Miami defense, or the Cardinal defense. He can't take a snap without fumbling. What, is that the second botched snap he's had this year? That shouldn't happen in Pro Football. Can you imagine what the Ravens or the Chargers would do to him? I have no problem with Rex starting, considering the other options. But I don't believe he'll do much. -- On another note: LOL at the Colts for finding themselves facing KC. I hope the Chiefs destroy them. I wonder what the record is for rushing yards in a playoff game. LJ has a serious chance of breaking it.- Official NFL Thread
QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jan 1, 2007 -> 01:12 AM) Dont you people understand that this game didnt matter, nobody cared, including the players. It'd be easier to look at it that way if Rex hadn't already had 4 or 5 games this season in which he invoked images of Ryan Leaf. Don't get me wrong, I love Rex. I have no problem living or dying with him. I just hope "bad" Rex doesn't show up in the playoffs. We're not good enough to overcome that.- Jordan's Divorce!
QUOTE(SoxFan562004 @ Dec 31, 2006 -> 12:09 PM) They may be in a minority, but they would be in a vocal minority. Boers and Bernstein would put his feet to the fire, and people would call in defending him tooth and nail. That's how the "MJ ass-licking" society got started on their show... I'll give you a lot of people recognize his personal flaws, but a lot still don't Boers and Berstein talk a lot of s*** about guys until they're actually on their show. I remember them absolutely killing Frank Thomas when the whole thing with he and KW broke out last March. Frank went on their show a couple months later, and they practically had their tounges up his ass. Those two idiots have no credibility. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Dec 31, 2006 -> 09:18 AM) Wow, I never heard that before. I never really thought about it, because the two guys that were caught were basically kids(idiot kids at that, you cant flash your world championship Bulls ring around without drawing attention to how you got it). I would tend to believe that his dad was in the wrong place at the wrong time. His gambling problem doesnt necassarily make him a bad person in my eyes, just an addictive personality. Its a problem he has, but he can afford his problem. And it came out a little while later that the two guys that killed James Jordan had no idea it was Michael's father. Of course, it's alot sexier/juicier to speculate that his gambling had something to do with it.- Drinking poll
