  1. QUOTE(fathom @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 10:22 PM) My personal belief, and it was the same last year after the 2005 season, is that KW/Ozzie became arrogant and stubborn. They believe Cooper can fix everyone...and while he does good with some guys, other guys show big regressions. And it's for that reason, and that reason alone, that I wish he wasn't our pitching coach. The dude isn't Jesus f***in' Christ. Man, I'm downin' a whole bottle of scotch tonight. I'm very f***in' pissed off right now.
  2. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 10:03 PM) I understand Garcia's value wouldn't have given us much, but this is FAAARRR below what I'd expect. For all his velocity concerns, he's still durable; and you know his statistics will significantly improve upon arrival in the NL. Here's my belief -- if this disgraceful package was truly the best available, why were we so willing to pull the trigger? Would Floyd and Gonzalez have not been available in January or February as well? Atleast then, perhaps his value would increase. Not even Beck or Jphat can spin this trade. We're automatically losers. And I don't want to hear, "let's wait for another deal before commenting." No. I'm tired of these god damn trades where we're not supposed to look at it on its own, but in the context of something larger. I HATE to admit this. I really, really HATE to admit this. But Tizzle was right. Kenny just botched a golden opportunity here.
  3. Can we please close this thread? C'mon Jason, Kalapse, Greasy. Anybody with the power. This trade proposal makes me literally sick to my stomach.
  4. QUOTE(103 mph screwball @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 12:11 AM) I've heard good things about Miller and handling a pitching staff. Regardless, Mack is starting to look like an expensive player that could be replaced with Sweeney or a cheaper backup outfielder with better D. He's a grinder and I'd hate to see him go, but exploring a trade makes sense to me. Good points. I just don't think I would trade a player as good as Mack for a guy that wouldn't play anymore than 2 days a week. QUOTE(qwerty @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 12:13 AM) Why do people insist on also rushing sweeney to the majors? I find that thought disgusting actually. Same here. I can't remember the last time a White Sox prospect produced right away.
  5. QUOTE(shoota @ Dec 5, 2006 -> 11:47 PM) There was a long stretch in the second half when Anderson was the better offensive player than Mack. Surely you remember. I'm startin' to like you Shoota.
  6. Ozzie can't fool Jordan4life. Mack will be out there unless we trade for another CF. QUOTE(103 mph screwball @ Dec 5, 2006 -> 11:41 PM) I like Mackowiak, but I'd look into moving him to the Brewers for Miller to solve our backup catcher hole. I do not know how that would fit, but the salaries are similar. Mack for Miller? No thanks.
  7. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Dec 5, 2006 -> 09:59 PM) $106M spent in a matter of hours. Very stupidly I might add.
  8. Gotta keep the bench intact. That was basically the only part of the team that didn't underachieve.
  9. QUOTE(supernuke @ Dec 4, 2006 -> 11:37 PM) Sorry but with all these posts about Pods OBP being to low to lead off added to several other posts in many threads about guys like Figgins, Crawford and Rollins OBP's being to low. I was begining to think we were the only team with out a .400 OBP guy at the top of the order. Hell in 2005 Ichiro's OBP was only .350, it seems like that woudn't have been good enough for many here. I don't mean for any of this to be defending Pods, but until a better option comes around he is what we got. No problem. I actually thought you were serious about your original post. lol.
  10. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Dec 4, 2006 -> 11:31 PM) Sarcasm. Wow. I didn't catch that one.
  11. QUOTE(supernuke @ Dec 4, 2006 -> 10:57 PM) I can't Believe the Sox will be the only team with someone who can't get on base 40% of the time in the lead off spot. Damn this sucks. Pardon me?
  12. QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Dec 4, 2006 -> 10:13 PM) If this is so why did Mackowiack play a ton of CF last year? BA will one day be better than Rowand, but as of right now he is not. Because Ozzie was foolish?
  13. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Dec 4, 2006 -> 08:40 PM) No argument here. What he did in the postseason last year (in particular the conference finals and finals) was legendary. Only guys I've personally seen dominate like he did was the bald dude who used to play for us and mid-90's Hakeem Olajuwon. Edit: I forgot about 2000/2001 Shaq.
  14. Good god! I know we shouldn't be surprised, but damn.
  15. QUOTE(Frank the Tank 35 @ Dec 4, 2006 -> 09:15 PM) Let me make a run-down of the leadoff options so far this offseason: 1. The incumbant Podsednik. He sucks, why did we resign him, waste of money, resembles a young Peter Pan, etc. 2. Crawford. (or Baldelli) Oh we can't trade away pitchers, we certainly can't sign or trade for any in the future, boo BOO this player who is hardly better than Podsednik. I guess I'd trade Heath Philips and Boone Logan for him... well, maybe not Philips. 3. Figgins. Oh, he's exactly like Pods except he could possibly play better OF, he totally sucked last year and he's going to start making more money (which we certainly don't have), but we can't trade Crede anyway cuz he's the best EVAR or any player from our roster for that matter, each one will bounce back and have crazy awesome years or get even better than last year, whichever option is more optimistic. 4. Pierre, Roberts, Lugo, etc. We're poor! POOR, I say! Bah-humbug! 5. Rollins. Ahh, look at that piss-poor OBP. Gosh, I hate good ss's who hit homers and steal bases while maintaining decent averages. Why oh why can't every single player on the Sox have great averages, OBP, and OPS while being lightning quick and having a thunder bat? Jeez, I don't think that's tooo much to expect. 6. Random high OBP guy/platoon. Speed, we have to have SPEED. Any and all worthwhile lead-off hitters have the burn, duh. I will conveniently cover the OBP% with my finger on stat pages for most leadoff hitters yet demand that they have AT LEAST a .400 OBP. 7. Ryan Freel. What a piece of garbage, character issues, can't hit lefties, can't play every day. If there was a poo-poo button I would press it... now. 8. Raphael Furcal. OK, all sarcasm aside, this is actually someone that people are, for the most part, in agreement about. The problem is he is in no way available. Now back to the sarcasm... We can't give up Dye!! He's a lock to win MVP next year, no doubt .330/.433/1.274!!!! AND he'll totally resign here for 3 years/ $24 mil because of his great character and all. I'm pretty sure he rescues small dogs, kittens, and other assorted adorable animals on offdays. 9. Ichiro. Ok, general agreement here too, but so very unlikely. Seems like the only way everyone's gonna be happy is if we trade fringe prospects for Ichiro. For all the people who flew off the handle when we signed Pods, what exactly would you prefer?? Something's gotta give, ppl. Quit your sissynannying and realize Kenny's not gonna be able to pull a quality leadoff hitter out of his ass in this market. We're either going into the season with Pods, or KW is gonna have to give up something(s) REAL good. The Tank has spoken! Good post.
  16. QUOTE(ChiSox9 @ Dec 4, 2006 -> 08:51 PM) From the MLB.COM site... LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- Of the 30 Major League clubs, roughly 29 are looking for more pitching. As the baseball balance of trade goes, there is a definite trade imbalance The position we have in these meetings is phenominal! You would think so. I'll believe it when I see it.
  17. QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ Dec 4, 2006 -> 06:59 PM) Look at the numbers, you're basically getting 20 points of average (though roughly the same OBP) and about 20 more extra base hits (which results in more RBI). Yeah, he's clearly better, but the way people are talking you'd think we're comparing Babe Ruth and Brian Anderson... I'll give you the OBP. That's the one thing, the only thing, he has to really improve. Besides that, comparing the two in anyway is like comparing Beyonce to Mother Love.
  18. QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ Dec 4, 2006 -> 06:42 PM) I'd just like to make one point here... Career: Pods- .275 average, .342 OBP, 212/277 SB Crawford- .292, .326, 227/275 SB 2006 Pods- .261 average, .330 OBP, 86 runs, 6 homers, 45 RBI, 40/59 SB Crawford- .305, .348 OBP, 89 runs, 17 homers, 77 RBI, 59/68 SB For someone that is a supposed future hall of famer, he's not THAT much better than Podsednik as a leadoff man. Yes, he has more power and his career is on the upswing. But he's not exactly a world-beater, and he's not going to solve all of our problems. Plus he'd essentially costing us $10 mil more than his salary because we'd be losing B-Mac instead of one of our other starters. Zoom, did you just say that Pods is not that much better than Crawford? I just have to be sure. I have been drinking a lot.
  19. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Dec 4, 2006 -> 02:16 PM) Ryan Sweeney is better than Pods, and he will play for the mimimum. Or the White Sox could use some of the money they are making by drawing 3,000,000 fans + all the extra revenues, and at least have a major leaguer in LF. Right now the starting OF of Pods at $2.9 million, Anderson at about $400,000 and Dye with his $1,000,000 kicker to get him to $7,000,000 is less than they paid Magglio Ordonez in 2004. In fact, its less than they paid their LF in 1997. Pods is not a good leadoff hitter. He doesn't get on base enough. He doesn't make enough contact, and he now gets thrown out as much as anyone in baseball. It also is petrifying watching him try to play LF defensively. Sweeney might/should be better than Pods. But I certainly don't want to go into 2007 with him as our starting LF, especially when we have a still devloping Brian Anderson (assuming no trade is made to bring in another CF) in CF.
  20. QUOTE(whitesox1976 @ Dec 4, 2006 -> 01:52 PM) I sure wouldn't have resigned Pods. There are better Left Fielders then him out there. Do tell.
  21. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Dec 3, 2006 -> 06:36 PM) Even during the 2005 season when everyone was calling him the ignitor of the White Sox offense, the guy that made the White Sox go, he scored 80 runs and drove in 25. He wasn't in the Top 50 in baseball in OBP or BA. If he was such a distraction on the bases, how come he only scored 80 runs? Well, our offense did blow most of that season. s***, Carl Everett was our #3 hitter. Pods was most certainly a spark in '05, especially April-July.
  22. QUOTE(TheBigHurt @ Dec 3, 2006 -> 12:45 AM) Some of you are sounding idiotic. They won the World Series, and they beat the 2 best teams in babseball. PERIOD. END OF STORY. How can you say they sucked? It makes ZERO sense. What I am saying about the asterik is that that appears to be what kalapse and some of you are doing, otherwise you wouldn't be saying that the World Champions suck. f*** the bad record. They still won it all. How good did the Sox look in September of '05? They still won. So the '05 Sox team sucked then, too? Bottom line: the Cards beat the 2 best teams in baseball in the playoffs and won the World Series. They are a good team. What, are you trying to say that the fact they DID beat the 2 best teams in baseball and won it all doesn't count because they only got 83 wins? f*** the division, they went far and beyond that. You all make them sound piss poor just because they were ina bad division. Apaarently I need to say it again: there were three series that were played after that, and the Cards won all three, became World Champions. Lol. What a lack of common sense in this topic. We got drunk people posting in here and everything else. That would be me. However, drunk or sober, the Cards were still garbage.
  23. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Dec 2, 2006 -> 02:16 AM) this is seriously underpaying for a leadoff man of his caliber. Pierre cost so much more, so did Durham and Roberts. Seriously a bargain Yeah, I have to agree. Anybody getting upset about 2.9 million dollars needs a reality check. Now, I know this doesn't gurantee Pods will be our opening day LF. But really, what other options do we have? As I said in another thread: I want no part of going into 2007 relying on one of Fields/Owens/Sweeney to hold down LF, especially when we've already got a developing CF. We've seen what Pods can do when he's right. I'll take my chances with him.
  24. QUOTE(TheBigHurt @ Dec 2, 2006 -> 02:04 AM) It's evident since you're disagreeing with facts. Come back when you're sober. Look, I realize the Cards won the title. Props to them. I'm actually glad they did. It adds to the neverending suffering for Cub fans. However, the Cards are beyond a shadow of a doubt the worst World Series winning team of the last 20 or so years. Nobody can deny that. Should they apologize? Of course not. But it's pretty much a fact.
  25. QUOTE(TheBigHurt @ Dec 2, 2006 -> 01:48 AM) Dude, did you: 1. Read my entire post? 2. Know that they won the pennant and the WS, too? 3. Get drunk before you posted? Again, to claima team was bad when they won the WS, in which they beat the 2 best teams in baseball, is obtuse. And to claim it as meaningless because of errors made by an opposing team (even though that was the case in ONE series) is hypocritical. So, just how many of you have lost your damn minds? You and Kalapse sound so obtuse, you're like Cub fans. A Cubs fan? C'mon now. Why insult me just because I disagree with you? And yes, I am drunk. LOL.
