  1. I like Dunn, and I root for him every time he comes up to bat. He's been a big disappintment with the Sox, but as someone else pointed out, his line since being with the Sox is affected by the outlier year of 2011. Still, batting .210 or so isn't great. The power still seems to be there, and I hope he cranks out 25 HRs before the trade deadline so if the Sox wish to they could possibly trade him. Right now, though, he's going nowhere. The Sox don't have a hope to trade him without sending a bunmch of money (which they won't do), and contrary to the beliefs of some people, dumping a guy and eating $15 million makes absolutely no sense. Everything I've seen heard, and read about Dunn is that he's a great teammate. I know that doesn't necessarily lead to wins, but having a veteran guy in the clubhouse who is a good teammate doesn't hurt at all.
  2. QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Mar 12, 2014 -> 08:28 AM) It's March 12, 2019.... predict what all these young guys will end up looking on this date (regardless of what team they happen to be playing on). Here's a scale to use: 0 = never plays in the Bigs 1 = cup of coffee/outright bust 2 = useful role player or specialist for a couple years 3 = very useful bench/backup/utility/MR option 4 = borderline starting position player OR high quality setup man OR 5th starter, several seasons in the bigs 5 = average starting position player all around OR quality closer OR #4 type of starter, several seasons in the bigs 6 = above average starting position player all around OR dynamite closer OR #3 starter 7 = generally an All-Star level position player OR #2 type of starter 8 = perennial All-Star position player OR true ace SP 9 = HOF candidate Here are the names, no particular order: Jose Abreu - 8 Marcus Semien - 6 Micah Johnson - 6 Carlos Sanchez - 5 Leury Garcia - 5 Connor Gillaspie - 4 Matt Davidson - 7 Avisail Garcia - 8 Dayan Viciedo - 5 Adam Eaton - 8 Jordan Danks - 3 Jared Mitchell - 5 --- Chris Sale - 9 Jose Quintana - 7 Erik Johnson - 7 Daniel Webb - 6 Nate Jones - 6
  3. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Mar 11, 2014 -> 01:47 PM) Prove it. See, I can http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/v/vicieda01.shtml and prove my stance. Prove yours. That link doesn't prove that Viciedo sucks. Granted he doesn't have the best numbers, but what number would he have to have to "not suck"? He's only had two full years at the ML level, and he was hurt for a while last year. His HRs were down a bit from 2012, but his 2B and 3B (oddly enough) numbers were up. He's got to get better at taking walks and not swinging at bad pitches. Is he great? No. But supplying a link that displays stats that are not terrible is no way to prove that he sucks. If he improves a bit this year (provided he isn't traded) and hits .265+ with 25+ HRs while taking a few more walks, I'd be okay with that.
  4. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 10, 2014 -> 03:16 PM) He murdered LHP in 2012 and couldn't hit RHP. He improved vs. RHP last year and slipped a bit vs. LHP. It's cherry-picking, but cherry picking is fine when you are looking for anything, but if you take his 2013 vs. RHP and his 2012 vs. LHP, you are talking about a guy hitting close to .300 with a .332 OBP and an .820 OPS. Plus he can hit the ball 500 feet, and is still very young. There is a lot more there than some of the crap you wanted the White Sox to acquire. I think today is his birthday. You should at least be nice to him on his birthday. The key, obviously, is if he can put it all together for one season. I'd personally like to see the Sox hold onto Viciedo and try to trade De Aza. I doubt Viciedo will ever be a .300 hitter, but I don't think .260 with 25+ HRs annually would be a stretch. If the Sox were to get a good package (better than Saunders) for Viciedo and said package serves the club today and the future, I'd be okay with letting him go. Regardless, I don't see how the Sox won't trade one of Viciedo or De Aza.
  5. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Mar 10, 2014 -> 12:53 PM) That's 2.5 cents per ticket. Or they could roll it into one more dollar hot dog night.

Cosmos was pretty awesome. We told the kids they had to watch it with us, and at first they argued. Ten minutes in they were sold and were asking a ton of questions. This is a show that every kid needs to watch.

Tuesday's episode of Person of Interest was a good background episode. Showed that Finch knew about Mr. Reese before he hired him.
  8. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 6, 2014 -> 10:16 AM) Sure, because he won't be playing nearly as much. Can't argue that logic.
  9. QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Mar 4, 2014 -> 03:32 PM) They are wrong. Yeah, it looks like they scored 2 or less runs in 28 of the home games.
  10. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 4, 2014 -> 04:13 PM) Liddi goes yard to tie the game at 4. Who's Liddi?

Watched Gravity this weekend. I enjoyed it, but I think it probably lost a lot of what made it so good on DVD. I really wish I had made it to the theater. I saw the preview in front of Pacific Rim in IMax, and the trailer alone blew me away.
  12. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 27, 2014 -> 10:19 AM) Truth. If he doesn't pitch well, it will be a bad, bad deal. Especially considering he took a roster spot away from one half of the "Twosome of Terror" that were destined to be the 1-2 punch that the Sox desperately needed at the top of the order. On a side note, the poll also showed that Cleto failed to elicite smiles from patrons at afrorementioned Applebees when he dined there.
  13. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Feb 26, 2014 -> 08:47 PM) Claiming ex-Royals? A few posters will be very happy! A recent poll in an Applebees outside KC showed that the Cleto pick-up will be good one provided he can pitch well.

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Feb 27, 2014 -> 09:38 AM) You mean in that Ervin Santana has taken over every thread instead of just one Shhhh! They might hear you, and then this thread will be ruined.
  15. QUOTE (chisoxfan310 @ Feb 26, 2014 -> 02:52 PM) Possibly in a deal to the Yankees? Though I can't see us getting their better catchers for him straight up but maybe a Romine or Cervelli. Unless they package someone else. I believe the Yankees are also looking for bullpen help. However, how much help would Elmore be for the Yankees unless they're just looking for depth?
  16. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Feb 26, 2014 -> 02:10 PM) Did you really expect a guy who got DFA'd by Houston to be much of a contributor? But...but Hahn had a plan. Those two guys at the top of the order could terrorize...nevermind.
  17. If he turns out to be a good pick-up, I'll be the charter member of the Cletomaniacs.
  18. So much for the Eaton/Elmore combo.

  20. I realize spring training has just started, but has there been any word about Nieto? I've heard that Flowers has the upper hand over Phegley right now, but who could be the "back up"? If the Sox are scouting the Yankees' catchers, that tells me that they're not sold on any of the guys they currently have. Question is, are any of the Yankees' catchers that much better?
  21. QUOTE (greg775 @ Feb 25, 2014 -> 11:14 PM) I'm surprised none of you guys are worried about Salvador Perez and list him as I did. He's scary good and could dominate our baserunning theft attempts for years to come. I hope Coop figures a good way to pitch to him cause I think he's a star (if he stays healthy). If Sox had a catcher like Perez I think Sox would win the division this year. The black hole at catcher for the Sox really is a killer. One player does not a division winner make. Yes, there is a hole at catcher, but we've been over this many times. Who can the Sox realistically get to fill that hole for years to come? And to say adding one player is going to win a team the division is ridiculous. The Sox aren't one player away. Perez is a great player, just ask Hawk. And he may very well play hell on the Sox's baserunning. But he doesn't play for every team. He plays for one team. I'm not saying they can ignore him, but there are so many other players on a bunch of other teams that the Sox will need to take note of. Just like the Sox have a few players that other teams are going to have to watch out for.

Southwest is by far my favorite airline. I don't travel a lot - maybe a couple times a year. But, I almost always use Southwest. I've never had a problem. I flew US Airways a couple times a few years ago, and I didn't have any complaints. But, they're more expensive. United is my least favorite airline. I've had plenty of problems with them in regards to delays, cancellations, and piss poor customer service.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Feb 23, 2014 -> 10:41 PM) I didn't know US Airways was doing that well to buy out AA. Will the hub change? It was actually a merger, and the new company is American Airlines. They're two main hubs are Dallas/Fort Worth and Charlotte.
  24. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Feb 21, 2014 -> 09:18 AM) But it doesn't add to the logjam. It just creates another possibility. It isn't like Dunn is going to be out there an extended time. If he's going well, it's another place to put him. I also think the roster will be different by opening day. Good point. Who knows, maybe Dunn will have a good year. It will be sort of a contract year for him. Not that he has any chance to get a big (or even halfway decent) offer next offseason, but if he's planning on playing beyond 2014, he'll need some team to give him a chance.
  25. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Feb 21, 2014 -> 08:57 AM) Dunn has played the OF for the White Sox in 2011 and 2012. I think he played a couple games in LF last year, too. He wasn't brutal if I remember correctly. But, it seems silly to state that he's going to get time in the outfield because there's a logjam at 1st when there's a logjam in the outfield, too. Unless Viciedo or De Aza is traded, those guys should be patrolling that corner over Dunn. Dunn should be DHing and playing the very occasional 1st base...primarily against righties.
