Sox vs Tigers... The Final Countdown!!!!
QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 10, 2012 -> 01:37 PM) I don't get nervous anymore when we play KC or Detroit cause I expect the worst. If we somehow win, the joy will be so much greater that way. I feel better about the Sox playing Detroit than KC. However, they really need to step it up starting tonight and win. A Sox sweep would make for a 6 game lead. That could spell the end of the season for Detroit. The flip side is that a sweep by the Tigers gives them a 2 game lead, and that could mark the beginning of the end for the Sox. A split would be meh, but at least the Sox would still be leading. IMO, a Sox sweep or a Sox 3-1 series win is a must.

"Tiger Killer" Floyd to come back Wed/Liriano pushed back?
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 10, 2012 -> 07:32 AM) Ugh Even though it has nothing to do with Floyd, that sucks.

2012 TV Thread
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Sep 6, 2012 -> 05:51 PM) Its a great show. I've gotten caught up and watched the whole 1st season (technically, it is the 2nd season; there was a 1st season done only in England). I didn't realize until after I posted that there was two seasons. I don't have Cinemax; my in-laws taped the shws for us. I was happy to find out that there's a second season that started in August. There have been comparisons to 24, and I can see that. It's funny how with 24, Jack's catch phrase was "Damn it!" while on Strike Back, Scott's catch phrase is "f*** me."

AJ Did Not Test Positive; No Story Here
QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 5, 2012 -> 05:03 PM) Well, that's too bad. If this is true, I wonder if Selig would take the stance of making the Sox forfeit every game AJ hit a homer in after surpassing last year's HR total. If AJ did this, it definitely showed in his power numbers. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 5, 2012 -> 05:07 PM) I know he won't do it, cause he didn't do anything like that regarding Melky, but AJ's power surge this season was hugely dramatic. You gotta admit. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 7, 2012 -> 02:46 AM) I'm not whining. I'm standing up for AJP. All it was was a bad rumor. So dump the thread. Greg, as you can see from your posts throughout this thread, your thinking was in line with the majority of this board. Most of us would be disappointed but not entirely surprised. If someone were to send this thread to AJ he would see that he has a ton of fans that would be very upset if it turned out he was using. Most us have been very supportive, you included. There's no reason to kill a thread just because a rumor turned out to be false. The thread title was changed to reflect the fact that the rumor turned out to be false. The mods here aren't going to lock the thread and pretend nothing ever happened. The rumor came out, we all said that would suck if true, and the rumor was proven false. But there were hundreds of posts from the time the rumor started until when the rumor was killed. Relax. I'm sure AJ is okay with some fans having a discussion about him. Besides, this thread will start dropping down on the page today. By game time, it won't even be one of the top ten discussions...unless you keep insisting the thread be killed.

AJ Did Not Test Positive; No Story Here
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 6, 2012 -> 11:19 AM) Man you are giving Detroit a lot of credit here. Remember when the Chicago sportscaster was suspended because he showed a photo of a city buring when he was reporting Detroit celebrating the Pistons championship?

AJ Did Not Test Positive; No Story Here
This just goes to show you how rumors can spread fast and to the point to where they are believed to be true thanks to the internet and social media. Look at what happened when someone started a Facebook page called RIP Bill Cosby. According to the internet, he was dead for a couple days before Bill Cosby said, "I'm not dead yet...I'm getting better." Go back and look at the posts from yesterday. Many of us, myself included, said we'd be disappointed but not surprised. But before this rumor was started, did any of really think AJ was using?

Watched the first episode of Strike Back on Cinemax last night. Good show. Hopefully the pace keeps up.

AJ Did Not Test Positive; No Story Here
Seems like there's reason to be optimistic...and reason to believe it's true. We hear that a guy says it's legit and there will be a press conference today, and we hear that MLB says it's false. Like someone else asked: If we hear nothing today, does this go away or does it still loom?

LOL at reaction to Michelle's speech
QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 5, 2012 -> 01:57 PM) No. Obama's a Sox fan. I like him. I just laugh that the Democrats in the media got to have their little party last night. Wait til Barack's speech. They are going to proclaim its the best speech of all time. "Barack Obama made a convincing claim that he just needs four more years to complete his mission. He stressed over and over to trust him that he needs more time. It's obvious he's won the trust of America after that speech and the election is a mere formality. No president in modern time has made a more convincing point. Trust me and I will complete the deal. America flat out believes in Barack Obama. After that speech, frankly how can anybody not believe in him?" The media is split just like the political parties. Fox News is very conservative and strongly Republican. They will not like Obama's speech. They will say that Romney did a better job. MSNBC and/or CNN will say that Obama did a better job. Put a Democrat and a Republican in the same room and make them watch the speeches. You know what will happen. One will like Obama's speech and one will like Romney's. Personally I don't care. I don't watch the speeches, and I don't care what the media says. As I stated before, I will vote for Obama because I feel he is the better choice to "run" the country. Obama may not be in touch with someone like me, but Romney is even less in touch with the common man. The sad thing is, no matter who wins, we will be having the same discussion in 2016 because the country is not going to be in much better shape.

AJ Did Not Test Positive; No Story Here
It would be very disappointing, but as many have already said, not exactly surprising. I suppose it's possible to have a (big) spike in power numbers, even at age 35. Hopefully it is just a very good year for him, and this whole thing disappears. As far as the rumor of him testing positive and currently appealing it, wouldn't we have heard about that by now? When Braun tested positive, we heard right away.

LOL at reaction to Michelle's speech
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Sep 5, 2012 -> 09:29 AM) Just assume everyone is lying to you from both sides and place your pointless vote in November. This about sums it up. And why does everyone care so much what the candidates' wives are saying? Is Michelle Obama going to go up there and say, "It's been a rough four years. I love Barrack, but who knows if he should be President again."? I for one cannot wait until the election is over. I'll cast my pointless vote for Obama, and I hope he wins. But I'm getting to the point to where I'm starting to dislike a lot of the people I'm "friends" with on Facebook because all they post is political bulls***. They find a picture on of the candidates with a grumpy look on his face and then post something about how bad the economy is or how X number of companies have gone bankrupt. Here's the thing: The President can only do so much. There's the Senate and the House that have a ton of power. All of these people out there that think that electing Romney is going to change the economy around immediately and make things better for them personally are crazy. Every candidate makes a metric s***-ton of promises, and very few are kept. Why? Because it's not that simple to bring the troops home, lower the debt, increase education spending, deal with immigration, etc. The President can't just bark orders and have a bunch of people running around saying "Yes, Sir." I could go on and on, but I'm just tired of this crap. This thread is another example of the crap we have to deal with. Who cares what Michelle Obama said. It was a great speech to those who like Obama, and it was a terrible speech to those who don't.

2012 White Sox Catch-All thread
QUOTE (Marty34 @ Sep 4, 2012 -> 06:49 PM) How long should a big revenue team like the Sox wait for Viciedo to reach his potential? LF'ers are a dime a dozen. A) The Sox are not a big market team. Not small market by any means, but definitely not big market. B) Left fielders may be a dime a dozen, but Viciedo is cheap and has a high ceiling. The Sox will give him plenty of time to prove himself. If, when that time expires and he hasn't, the Sox will move on.

Just an Old Fashioned Game Thread
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Sep 5, 2012 -> 06:51 AM) The Dukes of Hazzard theme song just jumped in my head reading this thread title Folks in Hazzard County hadn't seen a guy yell at himself on the mound before.

2012 TV Thread
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Sep 4, 2012 -> 10:51 AM) That wasn't a "finale", it was just a teaser episode leading to the next half of the season. It sucks, that's just how it is, though. The prison murder scenes were fantastic. I really liked how smart they played it - cancer comes back, Walt remembers why he started doing everything, Walt sees the cash, all is well... and Hank sees the WW book. I mean, Walt thinking he can just up and leave is kind of silly, given the deals he's made with this new cartel or whatever we're calling it. We're headed for quite a wild ride with 8 more episodes. They played this so subtle, I wonder if many people picked up on it.

Predict a Series
I'd love to see a sweep, but I think the Sox take 2 of 3. Tonight and tomorrow the Sox win. Tigers salvage a win on Sunday.
-
Thank You Kansas City Royals
If the Sox ever needed to take a series, this is it. I realize they could lose two games and still have the lead, but imagine leaving Detroit being 4 or 6 games up.

Waiver Wire Thread?
Have the Sox placed anyone on waivers? Are there any rumors that the Sox have claimed anyone? Sure seems like a quiet waiver deadline. Aside from the Oh-My-Christ Red Sox/Dodgers trade.

AND THAT'S A WHITE SOX WINNER!
QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 29, 2012 -> 10:19 PM) I think I understand him. Great great fielder, average hitter. Perfect No. 9 hitter for the next 10 years. He'll get hits, even some huge hits, now and then. But he's simply no more than an average hitter, maybe a bit below average. He is a big-leaguer, though. He's assured a long career. He's not a complete bust. I'd rate his hitting Cminus and fielding Aplus. I would have to agree. His defense is very good, and his lack of consistent hitting will be overlooked for the most part because of that. I still hope there's a better hitter waiting inside him, but it's hard to be optimistic about that based on his performance the past couple years.

Waiver Wire Thread?
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 29, 2012 -> 11:41 AM) I don't care how fiscally irresponsible it would be, Mark Buehrle coming back to the Sox would make me masturbate and give us a much better chance of winning a World Series title this year. Also, Jake's gone this offseason anyway, so 2013 would look better, too. I agree. Buehrle coming back would be good on so many fronts...except the money front. But if the Marlins would eat $10-$15 million...

2012 TV Thread
QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Aug 29, 2012 -> 10:47 AM) Gave "Copper" a shot last night. It's...interesting. Not sure that I really liked it but I think I'll give it a few more episodes before I decide. I like it so far. The second episode (from this past Sunday) was better than the pilot. The characters are slowly developing. Sometimes it's hard to figure out who is who. Some of them look the same.

Waiver Wire Thread?
Has anyone heard of any players being claimed? It would be interesting if the Sox claimed anyone, but I kind of doubt it.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 28, 2012 -> 09:17 PM) The Newsroom is f***ing terrible. I disagree. I think it's a very good show. The character interaction is great, and the writing is top notch.

Waiver Wire Thread?
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 28, 2012 -> 10:21 AM) That is "free to a good home" territory. Maybe if Miami picks up that last year of the contract.
