Sox Post Winter Meetings
QUOTE (hi8is @ Dec 15, 2011 -> 11:43 PM) Sure would be great if someone like the Yankee's got Gio and then the Reds, Nationals, and Blue Jays can fight over Danks / Floyd. It's gonna be one exciting off-season folks. Fingers crossed. I hope so. Right now, it's so boring.

Cowley: Bridges need to be rebuilt.
The only quote from Danks about Cooper is him saying that Cooper and Peavy need to sit down and hash things out. The other quotes about how Cooper was different before his contract extension were from "one pitcher". Cowley tried (but failed) to make it look like Cooper and Danks had issues. Who was the "one pitcher" that talked about Cooper's behavior? That would be a better and more accurate story.

Buehrle Signs with Marlins | 4 yrs $58 mil
QUOTE (Heads22 @ Dec 12, 2011 -> 05:25 PM) HOLY f***ING BACKLOADED CONTRACT Buerhle with #Marlins: $6M in 12, 11M in 13, 18M in 14 and 19M in 15. Deal also includes 4M signing bonus, deferred without interest. #MLB He's going to be untradeable anyways. I love Mark, but holy hell. Wow. The Marlins could be in some serious s*** come 2014 and 2015. Isn't Reyes due $66 million over the last 3 years of his contract? You're right. No one will trade for Mark unless the Marlins pick up a lot of the money.

Buehrle Signs with Marlins | 4 yrs $58 mil
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 12, 2011 -> 01:45 PM) I have no doubt the Marlins will have a massive sell off within 5 years. Maybe around the same time Ozzie gets fired...or quits.

Buehrle Signs with Marlins | 4 yrs $58 mil
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 12, 2011 -> 01:20 PM) http://www.csnchicago.com/baseball-chicago...tm_medium=email I like his attitude. Four years from now is a long time. Who knows what could happen. Interesting that he did not get the no-trade clause. I wonder if the Marlins have a bad year or two if he'd be traded somewhere else. The Marlins spent a ton of money, and if they have some bad times, Buehrle could be a prime trade target at the deadline (not necessarily this year, though).

Sox Post Winter Meetings
QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Dec 12, 2011 -> 08:58 AM) The Sox would lucky to land Betances for Danks. His value is not what most here think it is. After the recent deals, he's definately going to test the market after next season so he's a rental. That's true, but one would think that if he's traded to the Yankees now and ends up having a season he's capable of, the Yankees would probably pay him. Other teams, I wouldn't be as confident of him staying there.

2011-12 White Sox off season catch all thread
It's frustrating that such a bad 2011 has lead to this. Who knows what would have happened with Buehrle, and maybe the Sox and Danks would have been better suited for a long-term deal. I just have a bad feeling that three years from now Danks is going to be a #1 starter for some team, winning 17-19 games a season with a nice ERA, and we'll be saying, "Remember when..." Every day that goes by without any news or even rumors is depressing. I know it's early, but I really want to see a few guys moved and some good prospects in return. As of right now, all we're hearing is that it is a rebuild and then it's not a rebuild. Something needs to happen soon.

2011 TV Thread
I started watching the miniseries Bag of Bones last night. Pretty good so far. It's been a long time since I read the book, but I think it's following it fairly well. It's better than some other made for TV Stephen King adaptations. I suppose going with some bigger names (Pierce Bronson) helps.

2011-12 White Sox off season catch all thread
With Buehrle getting a 4 year/$58 million contract (which I personally think is a bit of an overpay, especially considering the 4th year), what does that mean for John Danks? He's younger and has shown flashes of brilliance and has demonstrated some toughness. Before the Buehrle contract, I was thinking the Sox might have had a slim chance to sign Danks to an extension, but now I'm thinking he could be looking at $15-$17 million per for 4+ years. I certainly don't see the Sox even offering anything like that (if they offer anything). But what would SoxTalk nation think if Danks was signed to an extension for $15 million a year?

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Dec 8, 2011 -> 06:15 PM) MOFO QUIT. Thanks Ollie! Now to sports. The Marlins lost their 29th game in a row after manager Ozzie Guillen had Reyes bunt with 2 outs and no one on base.

I hope Buehrle does well, but I hope Ozzie and the Marlins tank. I want to see a collapse of epic proportions.

2011-12 White Sox off season catch all thread
QUOTE (greg775 @ Dec 8, 2011 -> 02:05 PM) That is total bulls***. Maybe he couldn't inspire these zillionaires (like Robin is going to be able to do that, sure) but he wanted to win. The team simply sucked and frankly the players looked like they could not give a s***. Ozzie didn't want to win? Right. And Mark wants to play for him. And the Marlins want him. Smart people hired him. But he doesn't want to win. Some statements from the anti-Ozzies amaze me. Ozzie may have given up on those bums who took the field every day. That may be the one bad thing about having a former player manage. He can tell a team that doesn't care and doesn't have "it." With Robin's personality he will do no better in that regard. It's on the players. THEY SUCKED. Honestly, Greg, I don't think Ozzie cared about winning towards the end. He gave up on the Sox and then he quit. He may very well go into Miami as a ball of fire and be a good manager for them. But as far as the 2011 Sox go, he didn't care at the end.

2011-12 White Sox off season catch all thread
After the circus of last year, I'm more excited about 2012, especially if KW makes more moves and moves towards rebuilding. It will be nice to see a fresh face in the dugout, experience or not. Anyone will be better off than a guy who didn't care and was thinking only of how to make the GM look bad and how to get to Miami. This team needs to rebuilt. Rebuilt around guys like Sale, Morel, Reed, Viciedo, and even Beckham is he can get back to respectable numbers.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 8, 2011 -> 07:49 AM) This is probably the best post in this thread. If you want Kenny to get maximum return, you can't fault him for not taking the first thing he got for Danks, Floyd, TCQ etc. I think we're all a little let down by the lack of activity from the winter meetings. I thought the Sergio trade was the beginning of a domino effect. But we have to realize that it's very early, and hopefully some groundwork was laid over the past few days. I imagine (hope) that once Wilson signs, the likes of Gio, Danks, and maybe Floyd will be moved. I'm concerned about 2012 being a bad year, but I'd be okay with a down year knowing the farm has been re-stocked. The Molina acquisition is a good start, but the farm is still pretty bare. With Buehrle officially gone, I want to see Quentin, Thornton, and Floyd/Danks traded. I'm ready for a the kids can play season...well, the kids and some highly paid under-achieving old guys anyway.

KW and SOX fans are to blame for this mess..
What I'm more concerned about now is what the Sox even get back for the guys they will most likely trade away. I had high hopes for the winter meetings, and all we got was an odd Sergio trade. I realize that the winter meetings are for laying groundwork, but I wonder how much was accomplished. I have a bad feeling only a few trades are going to occur, and the Sox will end with not a whole lot in return. 2012 could be a bad year made worse by knowing that there's still not much in the farm.

QUOTE (flavum @ Dec 7, 2011 -> 03:53 PM) I had the signing day and the terms right. Wrong team though. Happy for Buehrle. Good luck. Yes, good for him. But that team is shaking up to be a mess. I hope everything works out for him.

QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 7, 2011 -> 03:20 PM) The thing I don't get is that the new Marlins stadium is supposed to be a massive pitcher's park. Why would two potential HOFers in Pujols/Fielder want to go play there and have their numbers die? It won't matter because it'll be Ozzie-ball. If they land one of those guys, they could be bunting.
