The Soxtalk Committee on Closing
So what's the solution for Bobby and the closer role? Do they only use Bobby when they have a 3-run lead and use someone else when it's tighter? Come on. I keep hearing (seeing) the argument that the Sox wait until Jenks starts blowing more saves before moving him from that role. Why? His performance yesterday tells me that he will indeed blow some saves. Why wait until the Sox lose 2 or 3 games they can't afford to lose?

AND THAT'S A WHITE SOX WINNER!!!
I usually keep my mouth shut when arguments break out on this board. But I have to put my two cents in on this Jenks issue. If you allow the first 6 batters to reach base and give up three runs before you even get two outs, you are NOT effective. I don't care if Bobby "got the job done". In my mind, he didn't get the job done. He was in the game to get three outs and secure the win (not a save situation, but he's still in there to secure a win). You can argue all you want that Jenks did okay because he got the three outs, and the Sox won. What it comes down to is that I don't trust him in save situations. I haven't liked him there all season, and yesterday put a nail in that proverbial coffin. He is not effective anymore and should not be closing games. Straight as an arrow fastballs and ineffective breaking stuff is a recipe for losing games.

5/26 GT: Sox @ Cleveland - 11:05am
Wow. This thread has degraded fast. I blame Jenks. Everyone was getting along fine until his ample duff came in and nearly blew it. Now there's arguing and fighting and people nailing each other's moms. What the hell?

If the Sox hold on and win, give the game ball to Pena.

Maybe all Kotsay needed was regular at-bats for 6 weeks straight.

I'm close. So far 1-2 with a walk and 2 RBIs. I gotta make more predictions.

The Sox need to hold on and win. Winning a game when your starter is ejected so early and you have to use 4, 5, or 6 relief pitchers could be a boost.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 26, 2010 -> 11:59 AM) Mark Kotsay is intentionally walked to get to Carlos Quentin. If we lose this game, that's my game wrapup title. LOL

Has anyone heard how the Cleveland announcers responded to the balks?

I can't see the game, but just the fact that West called two balks is suspect. Buehrle has one of the best pick-off moves in the game. Sounds like West has it out for the SOx.

QUOTE (dmbjeff @ May 26, 2010 -> 11:45 AM) I'd like to see a bench clearing brawl today. Going after the umpire? That'd be neat.

The other Mark (Kotsay) will continue hitting well. He goes 2-3 with a walk and 2 RBIs.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 26, 2010 -> 10:09 AM) Please, the guy has had, what, 12 starts since he's been here? We're nowhere near the point of contract albatross. And the comparison to Zambrano is laughable. If you guys really think Peavy is suddenly a 6+ERA pitcher, have at it. Just save all the "I'm happily eating crow" bulls*** once he turns it around. And unless there's a physical issue, he will. Yeah, he's not suddenly a bad pitcher. Like I mentioned before, I'm inclined to believe that his issues are mental. I'm pretty sure he'll turn it around...at least I'm holding out hope.

Peavy expresses concern about tired arm
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 26, 2010 -> 08:41 AM) I wonder if, once June 1 rolls around, it might not make sense to give Peavy a 15 day "Tired arm" DL trip and give Hudson a few starts. I don't think there'd be anything wrong with that. Something strange is going on with Peavy right now whether it's physical or mental. He pitched extremely well last year after coming off the DL, and he's had two outstanding starts this year. I know that even average and even sub-average pitchers have great outings, but when Peavy's on, he is unhittable. So, I'm wondering if maybe it's more mental. One other thing that bugs me about Peavy is how he shakes off a lot of pitches. Watch Buehrle pitch, and you'll see him get the sign and throw the ball. Peavy shakes off pitch after pitch before throwing. Maybe he should start listening to his catchers, especially considering AJ is quite good at calling games.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 26, 2010 -> 08:39 AM) Obviously Rios has shut you up. Now you've moved on to a Glenn Close obsession with Peavy. I'm just reading your statement and not taking into account that there may be more to it, but I think everyone is looking very closely at Peavy, and all of the criticism right now is just. He's not pitching well, and hindsight being 20/20, many of us are groaning right now.

May Catch All White Sox Thread
I liked what I saw from Lucy when he was up. His performance is a very small sample size, but I agree that he should be a good back-up in the long run.

Peavy expresses concern about tired arm
I think we're already nervous. Peavy has been very disappointing outside of two good starts. His saying his arm is tired is bad, obviously, but also sheds some light. If he can do some "treatment" and pitch well on Sunday I'll have some hope. But he needs to string together about 4 very good starts to gather some believers again.

A Cold Weather Super Bowl!
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ May 26, 2010 -> 07:31 AM) What sucks is that they will only allow this for New York because it is New York. They wouldnt do this for Green Bay or any other cold weather outdoor stadium, NE included And that's a shame. New York is New York.

QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ May 26, 2010 -> 07:19 AM) Man that loss last night was a kick in the nads. What the hell Jake Peavy? Shut up and pitch!!! Yes. Go find yourself or get some treatment for your arm or whatever, but come back on Sunday and pitch a good game for God's sake!

A Cold Weather Super Bowl!
True football fans love watching a game in the snow. I may be well off the mark here, but I would think there will be even more people trying to get tickets to this Super Bowl. I hope this works out, and they have a cold weather game once every few years. Super Bowl in Chicago? Green Bay? Pittsburgh? Sign me up.
