  1. This is a smart move to open up a 40-man roster spot, but if anyone thinks someone will take him with the money he is guaranteed they're absolutely crazy. Likewise, if you're expecting MacDougal to opt for free agency and take a 500% pay cut, well, that's equally insane.
  2. Another trade we lose heavily on paper. That's never bothered Kenny before, I suppose.
  3. I'd take a look at Capellan, Bazardo, Ensberg, Duffy, Huber, Joel Guzman, Calero, and maybe Doyne.
  4. I like this thread. Guys I could see KW making a move for... - Brandon Wood: Wood was once a super-hyped prospect but has looked nothing short of overmatched at the major league level. Think Andy Marte, but with a little more range and power. He could be acquired but his minor league number would likely make him expensive. Probably will be given a shot by the Angels before they swap him for a prospect with similar question marks. - Jayson Nix: Well, he'd be cheap. But he's probably useful to the Rockies on their bench somewhere. If you going to look at guys like this you might as well bite the bullet and start Getz, see what you have there. - Jose Lopez: He's available, but doesn't offer much upside. Some people get fooled by his numbers, he's nothing special and he's due to stat getting expensive. - Ronny Cedeno: Cedeno will get a crack at some extended playing time at some point in his career, but I see it happening with a struggling NL team. - Rickie Weeks: Why would the Brewers move him? Because he doesn't play defense and his contact hitting is awful. Why would Kenny pay their asking price? Because he has good speed and considerable upside. There will probably be some talks here. Weeks could move this offseason and his price tag will be dependent upon then umber of teams who make calls. - J.J. Hardy: Similar situation as Weeks (I don't see them moving both), but probably a higher price tag here. Can't see the Sox paying what the Brewers would likely ask for, and it's not like Milwaukee has any real need to move him. - Scott Hairston: I think his defense at 2nd was pretty awful? - Bobby Crosby: Probably available, but who knows what the asking price would be. Doesn't seem to offer any upside any longer. I'd stay away. - Khalil Greene: Definitely available... Would probably hit 25 homers... Good defense... Would also hit about .230 and strike out a staggering amount. I think we could get him if we want him. I don't think we should want him. - Kaz Matsui: Making too much money for what he does. Houston has shown themselves to be stubborn "buyers," don't see why they'd move him now. - Orlando Hudson: We wont win the bidding war for him, and we shouldn't really try. - Mark Ellis: A real possibility if we have them oney to spend. Shouldn't break the bank.
  5. The only downside to this news is that I enjoy the Farmer/Stone combo so much I'm worried that Hawk/Stone won't match it. I grew to like DJ as a person, and he probably deserves a TV gig for some MLB team, but it's troublesome how many times during the course of 9 innings that I cringe at something he says.
  6. I think Poreda is going to turn out to be a poor man's Matt Thornton, but seeing how he's the last chip in a pretty barren farm system, probably best not to waste him on Fuentes.
  7. I don't think of A.J. as a hot head at all. In fact, I think part of what makes him so antagonizing is that he has a calm demeanor. A hot head isn't as cerebral as A.J. is. A.J. is more of an instigator. Like Woody Woodpecker. Ha-ha ha ha, ha.
  8. I really think Cabrera might blossom if given a season to work with Cooper. I just don't want to give up a good prospect to find out.
  9. I'd take a shot at Cabrera if he comes at a reasonable price, but he's not the type of guy you want to throw a valuable prospect away on.
  10. We don't have the ammunition nor a place to dump Thome to make this feasible.
  11. I like this move for the Cubs. Sure, Harden could go down with an injury, but they didn't give up anything that will kill them. Gallagher will probably be a good pitcher soon but this is a risk they have to take with an open door to the World Series. It's surprising to me that this is the best offer Oakland got, even considering how likely it is that Harden gets hurt.
  12. Also important to note that OC is 0-for-8 lifetime vs. Duchsherer.
  13. There was also the jumping back collision with someone, may have been Quentin. There should be a specific home run celebration for each combination of players.
  14. So as it turns out we're not really worried about our farm system at all. CONFIDENCE!
  15. Looks like we'll get one more pick today to try and get excited about
  16. I think you're seeing a pretty clear indication that the Sox intend to make no strides with these picks and hope instead to sign some small time players for under slot value.
  17. Wow with Hosmer and now Melville (if they intend to try and sign him) the Royals' price tag for this draft could be astronomical.
  18. Figures we'd take the grindiest guy on the board. I think you're going to regret not taking Smoak here.
  19. Quentin will be on the team one way or another. The starting lineup is usually a big joke anyway.
  20. If we decide to reach for Bret Wallace I'll be absolutely furious. Wallace is a good prospect, ton of talent, obvious first rounder, but you have to do better at #8. It's just simple. If you're going to pick a Wallace- type (power hitting 1st baseman) that early in the draft, you'd rather go with Smoak or Alonso. I'm hoping that someone falls to us at number 8 who we can build around. I'd be thrilled with Smoak. I'd be happy with Skipworth. I'd be thrilled with Crow. I'd be happy with Beckham. Remember that a lot of people project Gordon Beckham as a 3B or at best a 2B, which takes his value down a bit. We should basically let the other 7 teams decide who we take with who falls to us. We shouldn't try and out think everyone with who we think is the safe pick.
  21. Adenhart is a quality pitching prospect, but he's been shaken up in both of his starts this year and doesn't look like he's ready for prime time just yet. His biggest problem has been finding the strike zone with 11 walks in 6.1 IP. Guys like Swisher, Quentin, and Thome's patience should be rewarded tonight. Juan Uribe, not so much.
  22. People who take Jim Rome seriously are essentially lame.
  23. Any room in the back seat for Lincecum too? (He's pretty skinny, I think we can squeeze him in)
  24. Stone for Singleton is the best trade this club has made in years! (It's the broadcasting equivalent of Lincecum for Uribe)
